Sonia approached Harvey's figure, muttering to herself, and reached out to touch his mask.
"Is it real…?"
As she felt the solid texture beneath her fingertips, disbelief washed over her.
Looking at the figure so close to her, her mind briefly short-circuited.
Harvey, seeing Sonia's first reaction was to question her own sanity, felt somewhat bemused. It had been around three months since he last communicated with her due to the increasing scrutiny of the Void Church.
"Sonia, why don't you tidy up a bit and prepare breakfast for me?"
With that thought in mind, Harvey decided not to dwell on her reaction and directly issued the command.
"Yes, Mr. Kassadin, please wait a moment. I'll get it ready right away."
Sonia, initially thinking she was imagining things, quickly stepped back. As her beautiful face flushed with embarrassment, she apologized, feeling like she had shown her worst side to Mr. Kassadin.
"It's alright; just take your time," Harvey replied, finding her bashful demeanor amusing.
As Harvey left the basement, Sonia couldn't help but feel a mix of pride and embarrassment.
"How mortifying... I can't believe I let Mr. Kassadin see that side of me..."
Realizing he was indeed back, her heart raced with a blend of shyness and determination. She took a deep breath, steadied herself, and left the training facility.
After a quick shower and changing into fresh clothes, Sonia returned to Harvey with several platters of delicious food just half an hour later.
"Mr. Kassadin, welcome back! I hope you'll forgive my earlier behavior," she said, slightly bowing in apology, feeling a bit flustered but acknowledging her earlier impudence.
"You've done a great job managing the Void Island; that little incident isn't worth worrying over," Harvey replied, recognizing Sonia's diligent nature and appreciating her efforts.
"Thank you for your understanding, Mr. Kassadin," Sonia said, feeling relieved and standing to the side.
As Harvey enjoyed the meal, he noticed Sonia stealing glances at him, as if she wanted to say something.
"If you want to ask something, just go ahead," he said, slightly exasperated.
"Mr. Kassadin, has something happened on Earth?" Sonia asked, curiosity piquing her interest. "I heard that Tony Stark sought help from Reno and the others."
Having gathered some information about Earth, she was aware that Tony was closer to Kassadin than merely a follower; they had a friendship.
Tony was also crucial for the Void Island, having provided substantial funding for the development of various facilities.
"It's nothing serious—just an attack on Earth by the Chitauri," Harvey explained as he ate. "Earth's civilization hasn't entered the interstellar age yet, so it struggles to defend itself. That's why Tony sought some help."
"How could the Chitauri dare to attack Earth?" Sonia wondered aloud. "Is there someone powerful backing them?"
Her mind raced with possibilities. She knew that, despite Earth's primitive technological level, there were divine-level protectors in place.
The Chitauri might be reckless, but they had previously targeted worlds without divine guardians, seeking soft targets.
Their current audacity suggested they had some sort of confidence.
"You're right," Harvey confirmed. "But they won't be causing trouble for a while."
"Then does that mean you plan to stay on Xandar for a longer time?" Sonia asked, sensing an opportunity in Harvey's words.
"Yes, at least for a year. How long exactly depends on the situation," Harvey replied, noticing Sonia's growing excitement.
"That's great! With you overseeing the Void Island, our members will feel much more secure," she said, her smile genuine and bright.
"What's the current situation on Void Island?" Harvey inquired.
"Since you didn't give any specific instructions and let me manage the funds," Sonia began, "I decided to purchase twenty-seven islands near the Falling Star Harbor."
"As for why..."
She activated a projection, displaying the sizes of the islands and sharing her future plans with Harvey.
The Void Church had only been established for a few years, and Kassadin had never intended to conquer other worlds directly.
Therefore, neither Sonia nor the members wanted to hastily initiate a conquest.
Realizing that a rapid expansion wouldn't be feasible to catch up with some of the renowned powers in the universe, like Asgard, Olympus, the Xandar Empire, or the Kree Empire, Sonia understood that it was vital to expand steadily and gradually increase their influence through softer methods.
Moreover, expanding territory was essential for the Void Church.
The members had substantial appetites and would travel to different planets, but upon returning, they still needed large quantities of food.
Having a larger territory would enable them to cultivate resources.
To become a genuine power, it was crucial to establish a self-sustaining production and consumption cycle.
While others could stockpile food and weaponry, relying on theft wasn't sustainable.
Constant raiding could damage the Void Church's reputation, and more importantly, it could foster a darker side among the members, leading them to lose their humanity and become ruthless beings who knew only about destruction and consumption.
