Chiba pressed down on Blackbeard and beat him mercilessly until Blackbeard was barely conscious, breathing shallowly. Only then did Chiba relent.
The vast ocean presented a challenge; Chiba had no way of knowing which route the Marines who captured Ace had taken. Even if he wanted to pursue them, he had no leads.
Sitting on top of Blackbeard, Chiba patted his face and said, "Alright, then I'll wait here on Banaro Island."
"If your crew can't bring Ace back, you're not getting out of here."
Blackbeard, struggling to breathe, wheezed, "They'll… they'll bring him back, no doubt."
As Chiba watched, he noticed Blackbeard's aura seemed to be growing slightly stronger. He frowned and inspected Blackbeard carefully.
Blackbeard felt an ominous chill run down his spine as Chiba scrutinized him. He forced a weak chuckle, "Hehe… Master Chiba, why are you looking at me like that?"
Chiba grinned, "I find your body intriguing. With the Dark-Dark Fruit, it's even more fascinating."
"As you know, I love research."
"Until your crew returns, I think I'll examine your body… and the fruit's abilities."
