Chapter 14: ch14-Tutorial (9) Tier 2 Alchemist

[Mana Potion (Grade 1)]

Piek grade

Effects: regenerates 40 mana over the course of 30 seconds.

'PFFF, as I thought.'

Failing to brew a grade 2 potion could occur in 2 forms, unlike grade 1 potions. Not only could it explode, it could also turn out to not have met the standard of grade 2, making it a grade 1 potion.

...

The next attempt wasn't any different, exploding in Olivers face, since he retreated too late due to him believing he could still save the potion. Because of this he was forced to recover for a day before making another attempt.

...

'I was growing too frustrated.'

Oliver knew what his biggest mistake was during the last few attempts, an issue he had had during his later years as an alchemist, it was just that he would have never thought it would resurface here.

Due to him knowing what incredible rewards would be given if he became a grade 2 alchemist in the tutorial he started to want it more and more, resulting in his frustration when he failed.

This frustration then manifested, if only so slightly in faults in his alchemy. Changing the chances of brewing a grade 2 potion from very small to almost none.

But now that Oliver had spotted this frustration, and more importantly took a break he could undermined it.

...

For the next attempt Oliver decided to truly take his time, taking nearly a full day before the concoction was done, even now that he was sitting next to it, pouring his mana within the cauldron he was calm as ever.

It seemed like he truly didn't care about the outcome of this brew, only trying his very best at every step.

Even while the concoction was beautifully glowing a deep blue he kept a still face, as if he wasn't the slightest bit excited for what was to come.

But suddenly. He let go.

"Finally, pff, and that for one of the easiest grade 2 potions."

Oliver was about to collapse as he suddenly stopped himself, turned around, and started bottling the cauldron of potion. In total getting 15 bottles filled to the brim with deep blue glowing liquid.

Oliver didn't waist any time as he immediately inspected one.

[Mana Potion (Grade 2)]

High grade

Effects: regenerates 250 mana instantly, and 500 over the course of 1 minute.

These potions were so high grade that using them at the moment was nothing but a waste of time and recourses.

That wasn't a coincidence. Except some special potions such as the talent enhancing potions most couldn't consume potions of 1-2 grades higher than their hub world.

Well, they could technically consume them, but not only were they way too expensive, they were also in many cases too powerful, such that it would lead to backlash.

And that wasn't even talking about the fact that most couldn't fully make use of their benefits.

Take Oliver for example, not only would he simply be wasting the potion due to his low mana capacity. He would also gain immense backlash due to the overload of mana on his body.

Not every potions was a transcendent grade one that could adjust itself according to the users body after all.

Now having calmed down for a few moment Oliver decided to turn on his system notifications again, and took a look at his missed once.

[Congratulations. You have become an [Alchemist].]

[Congratulations. You have made an exceptional achievement.]

[Achievement Type: Racial First]

Description: First of your race to gain a Profession in the Tutorial.

AP +25

Oliver slightly nodded to himself, he had expected this, as one of his vague acquaintances had gotten it a few years after he entered to tower. But the next one, was something no one would ever dare to expect.

[Congratulations. You have made an exceptional achievement.]

[Achievement Type: Tower First]

Description: First in the tower to promote one profession to Apprentice Grade (Grade 2) in the Tutorial.

AP +100

+1,000 small ether crystals

[Your account has been credited with 1,000 small ether crystals.]

[NOTE: Account is locked until Challenger passes the Tutorial.]

Oliver audibly gulped as he read his second notification.

'T......Tower first, that's insane.'

There were countless races and planets in each hub world, even getting a racial first was an incredible achievement. But a Tower first was not just incredible, it was as close to impossible as something could be.

Not only did the tower count countless challengers, it had also existed for longer than Oliver dared to guess. Only when this chock subsided did he calm down enough to look at his rewards.

'Hm, the AP seemed to be capped do to me being in the tutorial, but it's clearly being compensated. That amount of wealth is just...'

Even when Oliver completed the 68th floor on the lowest possible difficulty after multiple failures he still got about 300-400 AP. Which at that time was almost nothing, considering the higher you got in attributes, the more AP was needed, especially for a low rank species like humans.

So, with the towers scaling this amount was truly laughable compared to his achievement of a tower first.

But it was logical, if given a thousand or more AP Oliver could simply rule the tutorial floor like a god, ruining the balance.

But Oliver wasn't mad, no, on the contrary looking at the small ether crystals he got he became incredibly happy. Even in his previous life, on the 69th floor he didn't have such an amount of wealth.

Ether crystals, even the smallest once were considered a premium currency in the world of [The Tower]. Most hub world worked with the simple credit system ranking from the weakest G1 credit to the strongest G10 one.

It was only in hub world 5 that one started to see even the smallest ether crystal being used for transactions, and those were considered incredibly big once.

They also didn't have a fixed exchange rate, since they were incredibly rare and valuable. A thousand of the second lowest ether crystals was simply more money than even the most spend happy people could use for their entire lives.
