Chapter 86: 86: There Is A Legend About The Dumbledore Family

"Ah!!!"

Overcome with rage at his defeat by a mere student, Voldemort let out a heart-wrenching scream. "I will give a painful death, Ambrosius!!"

Crash!

In Ivan's astonished gaze, Voldemort's physical form crumbled into ashes, scattering into the air. In its place, a dark, ethereal shadow flickered—neither solid nor entirely incorporeal.

"What is this?"

Ivan activated both his magic eyes and spiritual vision, scanning the entity.

All he could see were countless tiny, swirling black particles.

The feeling was eerily familiar, reminding Ivan of only one thing.

"A soul?!"

Alarmed, Ivan quickly commanded the Fiendfyre to form a defensive barrier around himself.

But to his shock, Voldemort's fragmented soul paid no heed to the flames. It surged forward, passing through the inferno as if it didn't exist.

"What's going on?"

Ivan's heart raced—he had never anticipated Voldemort having a contingency like this. His mind raced to figure out how to stop the incoming threat.

"Ambrosius~~~~!"

The shadowy remnant of Voldemort shrieked, its voice piercing and filled with rage.

It moved with terrifying speed, closing the 20-meter distance in the blink of an eye, clawed hands reaching for Ivan's throat.

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck—!

"Expecto Patronum!"

Just as Voldemort's soul was about to strike, Dumbledore stepped in front of Ivan.

The old headmaster raised his wand, and the silver-white light flowed out from the tip of the wand like a stream of water. In an instant, it transformed into an exquisite phoenix, blocking Voldemort's shadow.

"Dumbledore!!"

Voldemort recognized Dumbledore instantly. He roared in fury, but the barrier of light held him back, preventing him from advancing.

Boom!!

The black mist as dark as ink surged out of Ivan's body, sensing the host's danger. It wrapped around him protectively, ready to defend its master.

Voldemort's fragmented soul recoiled, floating backward in a hurry. It paused mid-air, glaring with hatred at both Ivan and Dumbledore, before slowly dissolving into the encroaching flames.

"What is that? And how the fuck am I supposed to block that?"

Ivan ignored the system prompt that had suddenly appeared. He focused on calming his turbulent magic, suppressing the Obscurus, and pulling it back into his body.

"An extremely evil black magic," Dumbledore explained as he cast counter-spells to extinguish the Fiendfyre. "Tom's remaining soul was anchored to Quirrell, relying on stolen life energy to cling to existence."

"Tom knew he couldn't survive much longer, so he burned through all his vitality."

A pure soul cannot cast magic, but the vitality stolen by the Horcrux gave Voldemort the ability to attack in his residual soul state.

In this state, most magic is ineffective against him.

Only magic containing strong positive emotions can fight against him.

"Then why can't Fiendfyre harm him?"

"Because of the Horcrux."

Voldemort's ghost is immune to Fiendfyre, not because Fiendfyre shares his origin, but because he is supported by the Horcrux.

"If it were an ordinary soul, it would be burned to ashes within minutes upon encountering Fiendfyre."

"Burned to ashes—does that mean the soul is scattered?"

"Not exactly."

Dumbledore shook his head hurriedly and explained: "Fiendfyre merely forces the soul to another plane, preventing it from lingering in this world."

The Horcrux acts as an anchor, tethering Voldemort's soul and stopping it from passing into death.

"I see," Ivan said in realization. "Without destroying the Horcrux, we can't fully kill Voldemort after all."

"Then why does the Patronus Charm work?"

"The Patronus Charm is one of the oldest and most powerful defensive spells available to wizards."

It not only repels Lethifolds and Dementors but also serves as a means of long-distance communication and reconnaissance.

In addition, a fully-formed Patronus can resist all magic born from negative emotions.

The negative emotions referred to here are not anger or destructive desires but rather pain, fear, loneliness, and similar feelings.

"You mean Voldemort's current state is like killing a thousand enemies but injuring eight hundred of himself?"

The agony of merging his soul with a mass of negative emotions must be unimaginable.

And according to Dumbledore, although Fiendfyre cannot destroy Voldemort's residual soul, he still has to endure the excruciating pain of the flames burning through him.

"Is there no way to seal Voldemort's residual soul then?"

"Sigh.. Indeed, there isn't."

Dumbledore looked equally troubled.

The Horcrux is the root of the problem, and Voldemort's wandering soul is more like a fragment of consciousness.

The relationship between them is incredibly complex.

Some might assume that the residual soul represents Voldemort's true self, and sealing it would mean sealing all the Horcruxes.

But this is comparable to thinking that the shortest distance between two points is always a straight line.

That rule only applies on a two-dimensional plane; in three or four dimensions, it no longer holds true.

Similarly, the relationship between Voldemort's primary soul and his Horcruxes is far more intricate.

"So, Professor, are you certain that the secret of Voldemort's immortality lies in the Horcruxes?"

"If I am not mistaken..."

Dumbledore stepped forward, raising the fallen diadem of Ravenclaw into the air. "Yes, this is a Horcrux."

"It wasn't destroyed by Fiendfyre?" Ivan blurted in confusion.

"Fiendfyre can destroy Horcruxes?"

Dumbledore was momentarily stunned, but soon, he grasped Voldemort's cunning trick.

Throughout history, few wizards had successfully created Horcruxes, and those who did hid them so securely that there were almost no records of anyone's Horcrux being destroyed.

Even Grindelwald didn't know how to destroy a Horcrux.

"Cunning Tom."

Before his departure, Voldemort had thrown Ravenclaw's diadem into the Fiendfyre.

However, the truth was, no Fiendfyre had ever been present in that area.

He intended to deceive them, leading them to believe that a diadem retrieved from Fiendfyre could not possibly be vulnerable to its flames.

Unfortunately for him, Ivan had read the original book and knew that even an ordinary magical fire could destroy a Horcrux.

"What is this?"

Ivan examined the diadem closely, though he already knew the answer.

"Don't you already know?" Dumbledore asked knowingly with a twinkle in his eyes.

"..."

Ivan smiled, unbothered by being caught, and replied openly, "Yes, this is Ravenclaw's diadem. It was stolen by Rowena Ravenclaw's daughter and ultimately left in the forests of Albania."

"My guess is that Professor Quirrell went there because he had uncovered a clue about the diadem."

"Unfortunately, he encountered Voldemort..."

"Alas."

Dumbledore truly felt sorry for Quirrell's unfortunate fate.

Meanwhile, Ivan found himself speechless at Voldemort's wastefulness.

"Ravenclaw's diadem, one of the treasures of the four founders."

"This should have been part of Hogwarts' legacy."

Ivan sighed, "It's such a shame to destroy it outright."

Considering how Voldemort had worn the diadem to enhance his strategic thinking, it was clear that the artifact did provide a noticeable boost to one's intellect.

"You could try, Ivan," Dumbledore suggested.

"What?"

Ivan hadn't expected Dumbledore to say that. Waving his hands in refusal, he exclaimed, "No, no, no! I wouldn't dare put it on my head!"

"Oh, sorry, that's not what I meant."

Dumbledore chuckled. "I meant that perhaps you could purify the malevolent soul within the diadem without destroying it."

"Purify it?"

Ivan was confused. "How would I do that?"

"There's a legend in the Dumbledore family," Dumbledore explained with a smile. "Whenever a family member is in need, the phoenix will appear to assist."

Ivan could only stare at him, speechless.

"Sorry, Professor."

Ivan interrupted, "I think you should be saying 'me,' not 'us.'"

Dumbledore and Ivan exchanged a silent look before the old headmaster continued, "My nephew, Aurelius, was once blessed by a phoenix."

Selective hearing? Willful ignorance? Ivan had no idea how to respond to that.

In Dumbledore's mind, it seemed a settled fact that Ivan carried the bloodline of the Phoenix family—whether or not his surname was Dumbledore.

The Phoenix bloodline was ancient, and no one now could say exactly what its purpose or significance was.

Perhaps Ivan's ancestors shared a common lineage with Dumbledore's own forebears.

"Now, I believe it is time."

"Time for what?"

Ivan noticed Dumbledore's gaze fall on his sycamore wand. He knew that the essence of a phoenix slumbered within the wood—but awakening it would not be easy and required time.

"Fawkes."

Dumbledore smiled slightly as he summoned his phoenix companion.

Fawkes, ever in tune with Dumbledore's thoughts, immediately soared toward Ivan.

The majestic bird hovered around him, and a wave of golden-red magic—resembling flames—poured from Fawkes' body.

Boom!

In the next moment, Ivan's sycamore wand ignited with radiant streaks of red-gold light.

But unlike before, the glowing lines did not fade quickly. Instead, they grew brighter and brighter until the entire wand was ablaze.

"This is..."

Ivan held tightly onto the wand. It burned with intensity, yet he felt no pain.

On the contrary, Ivan felt a comforting warmth.

The magic within him resonated with the magic of the sycamore wand, until a brand-new heartbeat stirred within his chest.

Bang, bang, bang~~

The rhythm of the heartbeat echoed, and the wand in Ivan's hand seemed to attract something unseen, slowly rising amidst the flickering flames.

Then, the fire transformed into a brilliant sun, and a new life began to take shape—growing and expanding before his very eyes.

But it still wasn't enough.

Ivan could feel the Fenix Spirit's yearning for more vitality.

But where would he find the vitality she craved?

"Ivan, the time has come."

Dumbledore, sensing Ivan's urgency, gave him a knowing look. "Now is the time to use it."

"It?"

Ivan's mind immediately turned to the Philosopher's Stone, entrusted to him by Dumbledore for safekeeping.

As soon as Ivan withdrew the Philosopher's Stone from his pocket, the red crystal radiated a dazzling crimson light.

The stone began to fracture, and molten fragments flowed into the sycamore wand as though liquefied.

"DEX!!"

Chiii~~~♫

The Fenix's melodious cry, like celestial music, resonated through the room, banishing the cold from the basement.

"DEX! You are no longer a phantom!"

Chii~♪

The vibrant bird descended gracefully, grasping the sycamore wand in its talons, and landed before Ivan, glowing with a spectrum of radiant colors.

Chapter 87: 87: The Resurrection Of The Fenix

"What a beautiful creature," Dumbledore sighed.

He compared Ivan's Fenix with his own Phoenix, Fawkes.

The difference between the two was apparent to the naked eye.

Though Fawkes was equally magnificent, his brilliance was subdued, giving him a more muted appearance overall.

In contrast, Ivan's phoenix seemed radiant, as if illuminated by a filter of pure light.

Not only that.

Dumbledore also observed the intricate patterns adorning the Fenix.

Its head bore the mark of virtue, the wings displayed righteousness, the back carried courtesy, the chest embodied benevolence, and the belly reflected faith.

"Benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom, and faith—the five virtues of the bird."

Ivan didn't recognize these patterns; they differed greatly from the Eastern characters he remembered.

Rather than interpreting them as the five virtues, it seemed more fitting to describe them as five distinct magical runes originating from the East.

The runes radiated pure, unmatched magic, as though they could dispel darkness and ease all pain and sorrow.

Pah!

Ivan caught the falling Philosopher's Stone, noticing that nearly a quarter of it had been consumed during the resurrection ceremony.

He tried to return the Philosopher's Stone to Dumbledore, but the headmaster showed no intention of accepting it.

Left with no other option, Ivan slipped the Philosopher's Stone back into his pocket.

Since Dumbledore himself didn't want it, Ivan had no choice but to accept it with a tearful smile, right?

There was no way around it—the Philosopher's Stone was simply too enticing!

Initially, Ivan hadn't fully understood the potential of the Philosopher's Stone, but the events just now made him grasp its immense power.

Perhaps, as Voldemort believed, it truly held the power to resurrect the dead.

'Of course, the premise is that the person isn't truly dead.'

The Fenix could rise again because of her inherent immortality.

As for Voldemort, his survival was safeguarded by his Horcruxes.

"What do these patterns mean?" Ivan asked. "They look like ancient Chinese."

"These are runes of virtue," Dumbledore explained. "I was once invited to the Guilin branch of the Chinese Ministry of Magic, where I studied these ancient symbols."

"Oriental wizards refer to them as 'virtue.'"

"There are five virtues: benevolence, righteousness, courtesy, wisdom, and trustworthiness—each representing a profound spiritual power."

"In the East, wizards believe that 'virtue' symbolizes beauty, and they use these runes to ward off evil forces."

This concept was not so different from the magic Ivan had learned at Hogwarts.

The old headmaster told Ivan that the mind is the most powerful weapon a wizard possesses, and that willpower serves as the solid barrier wizards use to protect themselves.

These two—mind and will—are like attack and defense, inseparable from one another.

"So?"

Ivan stroked his five-colored divine Fenix, and through their spiritual connection, he discovered her gender.

This phoenix was, in fact, female.

Moreover, the divine Fenix was not connected to the sycamore wand.

The relationship between the two was more akin to that of mother and daughter.

'Fawkes's heart-fire must have drawn out the soul of the divine Fenix.'

'Then her body was reshaped by the Philosopher's Stone.'

Ivan held the divine Fenix in his arms, intending to stroke her gently, but before he could, she transformed into a ball of fire and entered his body.

"Huh?"

Ivan looked up in surprise. "What just happened?"

"It's a magical ability," Dumbledore explained. "It seems she can exist within your body in the form of magic, just like..."

"Like an Obscurus?"

Ivan sensed the changes occurring within himself, and a flicker of concern crossed his mind—what if the Fenix clashed with the Obscurus inside him?

Fortunately, Ivan's worries were unnecessary.

The Fenix resided within his flesh and blood, while the Obscurus was confined to his magic. The two were clearly separated, and neither interfered with the other.

"It's okay, it's okay," Ivan murmured. "Just don't fight each other."

He was genuinely afraid the two forces might turn his body into a battlefield and accidentally blow him to pieces.

"Don't worry. She won't harm you," Dumbledore assured him with a calm smile.

He wasn't surprised by how radiant Ivan's Fenix was.

In fact, the Fenix from the Phoenix family was supposed to be this magnificent by nature.

Due to cultural integration, however, it had eventually taken the form of Fawkes.

In theory, if Dumbledore's phoenix bloodline could reconnect with its origins, Fawkes would evolve further, becoming the true "Phoenix" of legend.

There was no real difference between the seven-colored Fenix and the Phoenix. They both existed on the same level of being.

"..."

Ivan noticed the increasingly peculiar way Dumbledore was looking at him. Hesitant, he asked, "So... should I change my name?"

"Hmm?"

Dumbledore chuckled. "Ivan Dumbledore? Oh, that's splendid!"

"You are just like Credence after all."

The old headmaster seemed to have stumbled upon something amusing. His smile bloomed like a daisy, and the look he gave Ivan was one of pure affection.

"Ahem."

Ivan waved his hands repeatedly. "Forget it."

"Really not considering it?"

Dumbledore didn't seem the least bit concerned. He could easily declare that Ivan was his grandson or even great-grandson.

No one would question it anyway.

With the Fenix accompanying him, the proof was undeniable!

Besides, the Dumbledore family had no heirs left. Dumbledore was certain his brother wouldn't object to passing the family inheritance to Ivan.

"In fact, the Dumbledore family's wealth is still quite substantial. The Ambrosius family, just like the four founders, has no money in Gringots. And I myself can be called a multimillionaire by your muggle standards."

Beyond anything else, Dumbledore himself had amassed a vast fortune—not to mention the Dumbledore family's accumulated wealth over the past thousand years.

To be honest, Ivan found himself tempted.

Fortunately, his willpower was strong enough to resist the alluring prospects offered by the old headmaster.

"Let's focus on the Horcrux."

Ivan summoned Fenix once more. The beautiful creature let out a melodious cry, and even Ravenclaw's diadem, which was floating in the air, trembled faintly in response.

"Hmm?"

Seeing this, Ivan asked hurriedly, "Could it be that the power of the phoenix can purify the curse on the crown?"

"This," Dumbledore said with a smile, "is the difference between a phoenix and the Phoenix."

Although Voldemort's Horcrux was formidable, the flame of the Fenix could purify it completely without harming the crown.

"Go," Ivan commanded without hesitation, and DEX sprang into action.

Just as Dumbledore had predicted, the flame of the Fenix enveloped the diadem.

The crown itself remained unchanged, but thin wisps of black smoke drifted off it. Voldemort's agonized wails echoed in their ears as the dark magic was burned away.

Ivan allowed DEX to continue purifying the crown, watching carefully. The Fenix burned it for a full three minutes, until Ivan's magical sight detected no trace of corruption.

Only then did he call DEX back, the radiant bird retreating into his body.

"Is that it?"

Ivan inspected the diadem closely.

Dumbledore, appearing utterly confident, picked up the crown with his bare hands.

"Headmaster?!" Ivan exclaimed, startled by the gesture.

"Don't worry. It's no longer one of Voldemort's Horcruxes," Dumbledore reassured him.

He then asked Ivan if he wanted to keep the diadem for research.

The old headmaster's affection toward Ivan was unmistakable, like that of a doting grandfather.

"Forget it," Ivan said with a slight grimace. He had no desire to wear something that had once been tainted by Voldemort's soul.

Even if the diadem could truly grant wisdom, Ivan had no interest in such a tainted object.

Seeing Ivan's distaste, Dumbledore could only take the diadem back.

He planned to place it in the headmaster's office as a relic of one of Hogwarts' founders, to be passed down through generations.

"Ok, let's fix this place up!"

Together, Ivan and Dumbledore cast the Reparo spell, working to repair the Chamber of Secrets, which had fallen into ruin during their battle.

During this process, they also had to deal with the lingering curse left behind by Voldemort's Fiendfyre.

Fiendfyre's destructive magic was exceptionally difficult to handle and required significant effort—it was far more complicated than ordinary magical or physical damage.

Fortunately, neither of them was ordinary.

With their mastery of advanced magic, they managed to reverse the damage caused by the Fiendfyre.

After a quarter of an hour, Dumbledore led Ivan out of the Chamber of Secrets.

Instead of retracing their original path, they used Fawkes' magic to appear in the headmaster's office via a special type of Apparition.

"This magic..."

Ivan, recalling what he had read in the original book, remarked, "Hogwarts doesn't allow Apparition, but the restriction only applies to wizards, not magical creatures."

"Exactly."

Dumbledore didn't withhold the information and directly taught Ivan how to perform Apparition with the Phoenix Flame.

This type of Apparition is initiated by Fawkes itself, and Dumbledore only needs to follow along.

As a result, it avoids the risks associated with regular wizard Apparition, such as physical dislocation, making it very safe.

"It's kind of like Floo powder, right?" Ivan mused, analyzing the process carefully.

He soon discovered the advantages of this form of Apparition.

First, "Apparition" is a general term for teleportation, using different spatial anchor points.

However, the underlying mechanics of Apparition differ across species.

Take the Zouwu from Fantastic Beasts, for example—it creates a spiral storm-like space wormhole while running, enabling it to travel across millions of miles in an instant.

Thus, if you want to restrict Apparition, you must cast different types of anti-Apparition spells tailored to specific methods.

"Can only one anti-Apparition spell be cast in a single area?" Ivan asked.

"Stacking multiple anti-Apparition spells requires a high level of magical proficiency," Dumbledore explained, "and you also need to be well-versed in the specific magic you're trying to block."

Layering anti-Apparition spells functions like a blockade on space itself.

Even creating a single spatial block is challenging, and constructing double or triple blockades is far more complicated.

Moreover, wizards can't perform the type of Apparition used by house-elves.

And, as Dumbledore pointed out with a smile, wizards don't generally spend their free time preparing defenses against rare creatures like the Zouwu or Phoenix.

"I can't wait," Ivan whispered eagerly.

Apparition—space magic—was one of the forms of magic he most longed to learn.

However, Dumbledore thought Ivan was still too young to attempt it and wisely refrained from letting him try it recklessly.

But now...

With Fenix opening the way, Ivan only needed to step through the door.

"Ahem," Dumbledore coughed, reminding Ivan not to be too ambitious and to practice within the headmaster's office first.

Ivan accepted the suggestion eagerly.

Thus, within the small confines of the headmaster's office, bursts of flame flickered as Ivan and DEX repeatedly teleported around.

Puff!

Sparks flew everywhere as Ivan and DEX reappeared, one hovering above and the other below the entrance door.

With another burst of flame, they Apparated again, reappearing right in front of Dumbledore, narrowly missing his beard, which sizzled from the heat.

"Hahaha~"

Ivan couldn't help but laugh at the sight of Dumbledore adjusting his singed beard with a slightly exasperated expression.

Ivan named this new form of Apparition "Flash Flame."

Although Flash Flame wasn't necessarily more convenient than standard Apparition, it was unparalleled in versatility. No one in the world, except perhaps Dumbledore, could devise a counter-spell for it.

'This is my ace in the hole.'

Ivan decided he wouldn't use Flash Flame lightly, reserving it as a last-resort escape tool—just as Dumbledore had done in the past to break free from constraints at critical moments.

Dumbledore's suggestion had been excellent, and Ivan felt it had been well worth trying.
