Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Retreat Once Again

"Bai Zangfeng, if you dare to touch anyone close to me again, don't blame me for being ruthless!"

Mu Nujiao understood everything immediately upon hearing this. Many of her friends had inexplicably drifted away from her in the past, and she never understood why. Now, with Qin Chen's revelation, it all made sense. Someone had been causing trouble behind her back.

"Let me explain," Bai Zangfeng said guiltily.

"You don't need to explain. I will tell my grandfather about this when I get back. People with impure intentions and poor character like you—I don't know why my grandfather even thinks highly of you." With that, Mu Nujiao turned and walked out of the auction house.

"Kid, remember this: Mu Nujiao is not someone you can get close to. You'd better leave her immediately, or else…"

After Mu Nujiao left, Bai Zangfeng glared at Qin Chen and threatened him with a dark expression.

"Or else what? You're just a lowly beginner mage. If we were outside the city instead of in Modu, I could crush you with one hand!"

Likewise, after Mu Nujiao left, Qin Chen no longer hid his fangs. The aura of a mid-tier mage pressed down solely on Bai Zangfeng, along with the killing intent he had accumulated from slaying monsters. Whether it was his aura or killing intent, they were potent deterrents, especially for those with weak wills.

Bai Zangfeng, being a scion of a noble family, had lived a life of luxury and had never killed a monster or fought one. As a sheltered flower, he was drenched in cold sweat under Qin Chen's pressure, feeling as if Qin Chen would actually kill him.

"Young Master!"

Just as Bai Zangfeng was about to collapse, a middle-aged man behind him placed a hand on his shoulder, alleviating the pressure and waking him up.

"Huff!!!!"

Bai Zangfeng took a deep breath to calm the suffocating feeling, speaking with lingering fear, "Where did that guy go?"

"Young Master, he has already left."

The middle-aged man, evidently Bai Zangfeng's bodyguard and a mid-tier mage, responded calmly.

"Why didn't you help me earlier?" Bai Zangfeng asked discontentedly. The sensation of stepping into the gates of hell was something he would never forget, and the fact that this threat came from someone his age, his rival in love, was a severe blow to his self-esteem.

"The master instructed me not to intervene unless you were in real danger. You were not in any danger just now," the middle-aged man replied, neither humble nor arrogant.

"Hmph!"

Hearing this, Bai Zangfeng could no longer stay there and stormed out of the auction house in anger.

"Men are indeed fickle, always eyeing the pot while holding the bowl," Ling Ling said with a quirky look, leaving Qin Chen puzzled.

"Ling Ling, you should choose your words carefully. I am an upright young man, and there is nothing in my bowl or my pot right now."

Qin Chen defended himself righteously, refusing to admit to being the type she implied, as that would tarnish his image in Ling Ling's eyes.

"All men are smooth talkers." Ling Ling wasn't convinced and remained firm in her belief that Qin Chen was a scoundrel, ignoring any explanations.

"Ling Ling, you should behave and go to school for the next few days. I need to go into retreat for a while."

Back at the Qingtian Hunter Agency, Qin Chen patted Ling Ling's head. After two months of hard work, he had not missed a single day of gravity training. Now he had adapted to five times gravity training, significantly boosting his mental power to level three, which in turn accelerated his space element cultivation. With a bit more time in retreat, his space element could smoothly advance to mid-tier level two.

"Go ahead. Grandpa isn't home anyway." Ling Ling waved nonchalantly and poured herself a cup of milk tea.

"Grandpa may not be home, but I am. You've been playing wildly for the past two months. It's time to get back to school."

Before Ling Ling could drink her tea, Leng Qing's voice came from the stairs, leaving Ling Ling with no desire to drink her tea. She had hoped to skip school openly, only to be caught red-handed.

Taking advantage of the sisters' distraction, Qin Chen quietly slipped away to his room. Entering, he saw Mu Nujiao cooking in the kitchen, her white apron accentuating her curvaceous figure. With her hair tied up, she resembled a wife waiting for her husband to come home, exuding a gentle and virtuous aura, the ideal marriage partner for any man.

"About Bai Zangfeng, I'm sorry for causing you trouble," Mu Nujiao apologized when she saw Qin Chen.

"It's nothing. He's just an idiot. Don't worry about him. Such trivial matters can be swept away easily," Qin Chen said dismissively.

Mu Nujiao chuckled at his words. "Have you eaten yet? Wash your hands, the food will be ready soon."

Mu Nujiao, amused by Qin Chen's nonchalant attitude, invited him to dinner. With Ai Tutu out, it was just the two of them, creating a cozy atmosphere. They ate silently, the unspoken understanding making the meal intimate. After dinner, Qin Chen finally spoke.

"I'll be going into retreat shortly. I'll rely on you for meals."

"Are you advancing again?" Mu Nujiao asked, surprised. Qin Chen had just reached mid-tier recently, and now he was advancing again? The speed seemed incredible, making her feel the gap between them would only grow wider.

"Yes, but don't worry. With your talent, you'll reach mid-tier soon," Qin Chen reassured her, not wanting to boast but rather encourage her.

"I'll work hard to catch up and reach mid-tier quickly," Mu Nujiao said, motivating herself.

"Keep it up. I believe in you," Qin Chen said, looking at her with encouragement.

"Go to your retreat already," Mu Nujiao replied, blushing slightly, unable to bear his intense gaze.
