Yusuke's sudden rise to prominence naturally spread like wildfire throughout Konoha.
The Senju clan emblem now bore the name "Yusuke," signaling a new era. The once-mighty Senju had effectively passed the torch.
This wasn't entirely surprising. The Senju clan had long been in decline, and aligning with a strong figure like Yusuke seemed like a natural choice. However, what left people truly astonished was that the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, had granted a vast stretch of clan land—land capable of accommodating thousands—to a ninja from a civilian background.
Despite Yusuke possessing kage-level strength, the idea of a civilian ninja controlling such territory seemed unfathomable to many.
Civilian-born ninjas who had spent their lives on the battlefield or living in mediocrity, marrying and aging like ordinary people, now looked upon Yusuke with envy. His rise to fame, less than a month old, included repelling the Nine-Tails and taking control of prime land. For most, it was an unattainable dream.
Even prominent clans like the Uchiha and Hyuga were left uneasy. Sarutobi Hiruzen, in their eyes, had seemingly gone mad by gifting such a large prize to a civilian.
Yet Sarutobi had no time to address these sentiments. He was busy mobilizing troops in preparation for the looming storm of war.
Meanwhile, Yusuke casually strolled with little Kurenai around the once Senju clan's land—now under his control. Patting her on the head, he said, "Kurenai, you'll be living here now. Don't forget to collect rent from the tenants every month, okay?"
Yusuke gestured toward the non-Senju villagers who had moved in. The Nine-Tails' attack had destroyed much of Konoha, leaving many villagers homeless. They had been temporarily housed in the Ninja Academy, public training grounds, or even camps outside the village under the orders of the village leaders.
Taking advantage of the situation, Yusuke had rented out vacant houses within the clan land to displaced villagers—though his tenants were primarily ninjas from the Hyuga, Akimichi, Nara, and Inuzuka clans. Ordinary villagers couldn't afford Yusuke's steep prices.
A member of the Hyuga clan who had just paid rent had black lines of frustration on his face, silently cursing Yusuke for profiting off the village's misfortune. In no time, Yusuke's reputation had taken a hit, but he was unfazed. After all, what use was reputation when it didn't pay the bills?
"Go ahead and collect the rent, Kurenai," Yusuke said, giving her a light tap on the back.
Kurenai hesitantly approached the Hyuga ninja, nervously muttering, "Um, the rent..."
With a resigned sigh, the Hyuga ninja pulled out 100,000 ryo from his wallet and handed it to her. This was for just an average house. Their new clan head, Hiashi Hyuga, was paying a staggering 1 million ryo per month for a mansion.
The entire clan's rent would net Yusuke over 30 million ryo each month—an astonishing profit.
"Wow, that's a lot of money, Yusuke!" Kurenai exclaimed, her eyes gleaming with excitement as she rushed back with the money.
"Don't get too excited," Yusuke said, smirking as he ruffled her hair. Internally, he couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Living in luxury felt pretty good.
Just as Yusuke was about to continue collecting rent, a white-eyed man a few years older than him approached, accompanied by several members of the Hyuga family. It was Hiashi Hyuga, the newly appointed head of the Hyuga clan.
"Hiashi, rent's 1 million. No credit," Yusuke said bluntly, extending his hand.
Hiashi's eye twitched, but he signaled to one of his subordinates, who promptly handed Kurenai a stack of banknotes.
"Amazing..." Kurenai marveled. One million ryo—a sum normally reserved for S-rank missions—was now in her small hands.
"Ahem, Yusuke," Hiashi cleared his throat. "Hokage-sama's orders for deployment have come in. We are to leave for the northern border of the Land of Fire early tomorrow. We need to prepare for battle with Iwagakure."
Yusuke, fresh from enjoying the life of a landlord, quickly adjusted his focus. "So, who's the commander-in-chief, and which units are being deployed?"
