Chapter 52: Meaningless

The next morning came far too quickly for Amara's liking. The silence in the room was palpable. Elara was already awake, standing near the window, brushing her hair in the most casual, I'm-pretending-nothing-happened-last-night way possible.

Amara sighed internally. Great. Just pretend everything's normal.

She threw off her blanket, trying to act just as unfazed, but her muscles were still a little stiff from the tension of last night's... incident. Their fingers had brushed when they cleaned up the glass, and now her brain refused to forget that tiny, completely meaningless moment.

[Meaningless, huh? Sure, keep telling yourself that.]

"Shut up," she muttered under her breath, quickly grabbing her clothes for the day.
