Chapter 23: Fool? Madman!

Chen Feng had left the stronghold, originally planning to find a place to hide. But halfway along his path, he unexpectedly encountered a "policeman."

Dissect their words, discern their intentions.

After surviving in the apocalypse for so many years, Chen Feng had long since developed a sharp eye for deception. A policeman? The corner of his mouth curled into a mocking smile. The man before him was slouched, his shoulders hunched, and his walk had a distinct sway. Rather than looking like a police officer, he resembled a petty thug.

A conman.

The only thing that lent this man any credibility was the uniform he wore. Everything else about him was a lie.

As for whether this person harbored any malicious intent toward him, Chen Feng didn't particularly care. He just wanted to find a place to lie low. If someone was willing to take the initiative to help him, he was more than willing to accept the offer.

Night was the time for killing.

Chen Feng had no energy to waste on pretenses. If this person did have any sinister plans, then Chen Feng would simply kill him.

In the apocalypse, killing or being killed was as normal as breathing.

After a few minutes of walking, a police station came into view. The first floor served as a parking lot, while the second floor housed the offices. Blood, still fresh and wet, stained the walls of the building, and the ground was littered with shattered bones and fragments of human organs.

In one corner, scattered arms and legs were piled together, with clear bite marks etched into the flesh.

The stench of blood.

Chen Feng sniffed the air, catching a whiff of the pungent odor.

Something terrible had happened here.

Ayu noticed Chen Feng's scrutiny and grinned maliciously. He pointed his gun at Chen Feng's head, snarling, "What are you looking at? Get inside, now!"

The mask drops.

Now that they had reached their destination, Ayu discarded his pretense.

The door creaked open, revealing several fierce-looking men inside. They smoked cigarettes and drank hard liquor, their gazes hostile as they scrutinized Chen Feng.

Murderous intent.

Chen Feng could sense their disdain for life in their eyes. Every one of them had blood on their hands—human blood.

In one corner of the room, six ragged men huddled together, their spirits broken, eyes wide with terror.

From a nearby room, the sounds of screaming and sobbing mingled with the heavy breathing of men.

A den of criminals.

And a gang at that.

"I'm back, boss…" Ayu announced, ingratiating himself to the man at the center of the room—Ma Biao.

"This is who you brought?" Ma Biao glanced at Chen Feng, then immediately lost interest. To him, Chen Feng was nothing more than a piece of meat, not worth his attention, especially since he was just another man.

A Professional.

A sharp glint flashed in Chen Feng's eyes. As a summoner, Chen Feng was highly attuned to fluctuations in energy. Just now, he had sensed a faint but unmistakable threat emanating from Ma Biao.

However, it was just a threat—nothing that induced fear.

If it came to a sneak attack, Chen Feng estimated a 70% chance of killing him. After all, aside from certain Professions, the vitality of Professionals was no different from that of ordinary people.

In the end, life is fragile.

Unless one possessed an extraordinarily resilient constitution, this truth applied to all beings.

"Search him. Keep anything useful, and toss the rest. You know the drill—strip him and throw him in the corner. Just make sure he doesn't starve to death," Ma Biao ordered lazily. To him, Chen Feng was just another body, hardly worth the effort.

"Kid, be smart and raise your hands. Cooperate, and maybe you'll live a little longer," Ayu sneered as he reached out to pat down Chen Feng's body.

Body search.

"What's this?" Ayu suddenly shouted as his hand brushed against Chen Feng's waist. With a quick pull, he drew out a boning knife.

"A boning knife," Chen Feng replied calmly.

"What do you plan to do with this knife?"

"Kill."

The room fell into stunned silence for a few seconds before erupting into laughter. In the current world, where the streets were crawling with monsters, carrying a knife for self-defense was perfectly reasonable. They had expected Chen Feng to say as much. But instead, he had said he intended to kill.

"Brother, did you hear that?"

"This guy says he's going to use the knife to kill someone."

"Who do you think you are? Have you ever seen blood? Seen a dead body? Kill someone? You're just a kid, not even fully grown, and you dare spout such nonsense."

Ayu snorted derisively, looking at Chen Feng like he was a fool. He handed the knife back to him with a laugh. "I pointed a gun at you earlier, and you didn't seem so tough then!"

"Kill someone? Why don't you go ahead and try—"

Shk!

Without hesitation, Chen Feng grabbed the boning knife and drove it straight into Ayu's throat. Ayu's eyes widened in shock as blood gushed down his neck. The pain was nothing compared to the numbness and terror he felt as he realized his life was slipping away. It was a terrifying experience, watching death slowly overtake him.

This guy… he's a lunatic!

Ayu crumpled to the ground, his eyes still wide in disbelief. Even in death, he couldn't comprehend what had just happened.

This...

In fact, it wasn't just Ayu who was shocked. Everyone in the room was stunned. Moments ago, Ayu had been mocking Chen Feng, but now, in the blink of an eye, he was a corpse on the floor.

How bizarre.

"What do you plan to do with this knife?"

"Kill."

Their earlier exchange replayed in everyone's minds. But now, instead of laughing, they couldn't muster any humor. They realized that Chen Feng hadn't been joking. This knife was indeed meant for killing.

This guy…

Even Ma Biao, who had initially dismissed Chen Feng, was surprised. His previously lazy demeanor vanished, replaced by a focused intensity. He stood up, clenching his fists. Chen Feng had killed one of his men right in front of him. This was a serious matter, and to maintain his authority, Ma Biao knew that Chen Feng had to die—and die painfully.

"What's wrong? Have any objections?" Chen Feng asked, ignoring the tension in the room. He bent down to pull the knife from Ayu's neck, a harmless smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "He asked for it. To be honest, I've never heard such a strange request in my life..."
