Chapter 10: HARLEY: The Culprit

My chest tightened, my heart running a marathon.

Such incredible intimidation with just his eyes and tone alone.

Mr. Jones's voice was filled with nothing less than a threat. I didn't actually have a choice here, I was going to sign this paper whether I liked it or not.

"Why?" I asked, pulling a smile.

He smiled dangerously further. "Why not, Mrs Legan?"

I breathed as camly as I could, my attention shifting between him and his daughter. If I refused, what would they do? Gang force me into it? Do I just leave? But I came to an agreement with Sylus.

Just…for today.

Mr. Jones stared at me. "Well?" 

I tilted my head, studying the father and daughter. I wondered what they would do if I refused. Sylus was in the other room, he couldn't be aware of this, could he? I asked, "Does Sylus know about this?"
