Chapter 20: -Directly above the enemy aircraft-
Finally, enemy fighter planes came within visual range.
The aircraft was thought to be a twin-engine bomber, the IL-4.
"Commander, torpedo officer, prepare the anti-aircraft guns for firing."
"Gunnerman understood, prepare for anti-aircraft fire!"
The anti-aircraft guns mounted at the stern and center of the ship slowly rose up and began to target the enemy aircraft.
"From the port lookout to the bridge, the enemy is carrying torpedoes. I repeat, the enemy is carrying torpedoes!!"
Aerial torpedoes are different from normal torpedoes in that they have high accuracy, which is because they are difficult to avoid.
"Enemy plane is 8km away!!"
We finally came within range of anti-aircraft guns.
"Gunnerman, don't fire yet."
The captain told him to calm down, and the torpedo officer slowly nodded.
"Captain, we have a call from headquarters, fighter jets will arrive in 10 minutes."
"You're late, hurry up!"
"Our ship is within range of enemy torpedoes."
Tension runs high on the ship.
"Navigator, full speed, full rudder! Point the bow towards the enemy planes!"
"Captain, we won't be able to fire our anti-aircraft guns like that!"
"That's fine. If we're able to fire, it could give enemy planes an excuse to attack. If necessary, we'll respond with the main guns and the machine guns on the bow."
Under the captain's instructions, the Soya faced off against the enemy aircraft.
"Enemy planes at 30m altitude! Getting ready for torpedo attacks."
"Don't panic, they won't shoot."
Then all three planes changed course.
It turned to starboard and exited the ship's port side.
Still, he had no intention of attacking.
It was at that moment that everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"Enemy aircraft approaching again! Approaching from the port side!"
"We're under 3km away!"
"Calm down, torpedo officer. If this thing wanted to launch torpedoes, it would have done so long ago. This plane has been approaching for a very long time."
"Distance 1 kilometer, 900, 800..."
And finally.
"Enemy plane directly above!!!"
GGGGGG!
The enemy planes all passed overhead, their engines roaring.
The Soya won the battle without a single bullet being fired.
