Chapter 44: Her Daughter Drew a Family Picture!

Lucy couldn't move with the old woman's hand wrapped around her thin wrist. She could easily remove it, but she found herself unwilling to hurt Old Penny's feelings while she was in this state.

Having no other choice, Lucy waited until the old woman's eyes closed before calling Samuel.

After another fifteen minutes, Samuel pulled up in front of the apartment building with his car. The middle-aged man entered the store and found Lucy in the kitchen, drinking a glass of water from the pitcher.

"Where is she?" Samuel asked, panting lightly as his eyes moved across the place.

Lucy pointed toward the bedroom and said, "She's asleep."

Samuel breathed a sigh of relief and thanked her. "Were you staying with my mother for a long time? I'm really sorry. My wife had a small accident, and I had to run back home." He paused briefly to run to the room and open the door to check on his mother before he said, "My mother didn't cause you any trouble, did she?"
