MATCHING FOOTSTEPS echoed through the hallway as the doors to the living room flew open.

"Father, did you see today's newspaper?" Nigel asked. Alviva cringed at his voice. He had disturbed her reading.

Not like she could openly read in front of her father. He would lose his mind if he did. But it wasn't like she had any other choice to pick from.
