RENEE
As we pulled up outside Jessica's apartment building, I took a moment to study the place. I turned to the Doi, one of the security agents who shadowed Miles constantly. "Think you could get us into her place?"
He looked back at me in the rearview mirror, his expression slightly startled, like he hadn't expected the question. "Her door isn't secured by a manual lock," he replied carefully. "And it's outside my jurisdiction to hack into an automated lock."
I couldn't ignore how annoying it was that he seemed so familiar with her apartment's lock system. I had to remind myself that this man knew more than most about the people in Miles's life, and Jessica was certainly one of them.
"All right, fair enough," I replied, pushing open the car door and stepping out. "But since you seem to know exactly where she lives, why don't you go ahead and lead the way?"
