Chapter 4: Diego!

The creature was on all fours, its body lean and its canines long and sharp. It was gnawing on the flesh of another creature that resembled an ugly duck-like bird—a dodo.

"S-Sabre-tooth…? Aren't they extinct?!"

Hearing Felix's outburst, the old man glanced at Felix and slapped his knee with a stick, "What happened?" he asked when Felix refocused.

"I saw a Sabre-tooth," Felix murmured, still feeling as if he was in a dream. He gently pressed the binoculars on the old man's eyes, showing him the Sabre-toothed Cat.

"Diego!" Gramps exclaimed.

"..." Felix pursed his lips, shivering in his boots as he gathered the courage to explore as far as he could see.

"I thought Diego's were dead," Gramps asked, confused.

"It's a Sabre-toothed cat, geezer. Stop watching cartoons." Felix clicked his tongue.

"Diego."

"Uhh… Sure." Felix watched through the binoculars again, but this time he wasn't able to find anything interesting. He spotted another Dodo– alive, drinking water from a puddle, but there wasn't any other creature in sight.

He sighed and took off the binoculars, keeping them back on Gramp's lap as he poured himself a cup of tea and leaned on the wall.

"We-" the geezer began, his eyes looking at the rocky ceiling, "Are we trapped here?"

"Of course not." Felix shook his head, "Although our town is too small to matter, I doubt UNA will let us die in this ditch."

Felix pointed at the circular hole in the ceiling, "It's big enough for a couple of helicopters to descend into, I believe the help will come."

Gramps smiled but didn't say anything, causing Felix to shake his head and walk out of the balcony. He now had to check on his brother and plan how or what was going to happen.

"Naive. Young Felix… you are still too naive." The geezer's mouth curled into a wry smile, his eyes looking bleak as he gazed off into the distance, a cup of tea in his hands. Alas, Felix was unable to hear the old man's tale.

"Rosy!!! I am glad you are okay!" Kael, now standing on the 5th floor of the building, hugged a mature-looking female. Her hair was tied into a messy bun while a floral apron hugged her busty mature figure.

"Stop! My husband is home!" Rosy blushed lightly and pushed the handsome lad away, glancing into the home to check if her husband caught them.

Before Kael could utter a dirty sentence, Rosy coughed lightly and her blush disappeared, her eyes narrowing, "What is happening outside, Kael?"

Kael was momentarily stunned, "I don't know. Felix thinks we are in some kind of an underground cavity. I can't get any signal here." Kael took out his phone, which was showing a no-signal sign.

"Same." Rosy showed her phone.

"This isn't just an underground cavity, Kael." Felix who was climbing the stairs, uttered in a serious tone, "Something's weird here. I saw a Sabre-toothed cat feeding on a Dodo."

"Damn bro, the cat has some low standards. Who can eat that ugly bird?" Kael took a sharp breath, trying to make a joke out of the situation.

"That's your problem Kael, learn how to be serious for once." Felix spat coldly.

"At least I can joke."

"You ARE a joke." Felix cursed under his breath, "Look bro, I am fucking serious. I saw a Sabre-toothed Cat. It is known to be fucking extinct. Do you see the problem here?!"

"I do. So what? Maybe there is a way from outside and a small group of those wandered here? They survived here eating whatever ugly creatures live here and you saw one of them having a nice lunch. Is that it?" Kael took a step towards Felix, glaring at him.

Felix pushed Kael away, causing him to bump into Rosy who stood by the side silently, "Waste of time. I was an idiot to be worried about you."

"Don't use force, Felix!" Kael hissed in rage.

"Yeah, you are not worth it." Felix spat on the stairs, turning around and treading down the stairs back to their 3rd floor.

He found Cathy standing beside the granny's door, looking at him in concern.

"Don't." Felix brushed past her before she could say anything.

Cathy pursed her lips and nodded, leaving him alone. This wasn't the first time the brothers had argued with each other due to their polar opposite natures.

Kael was an emotional man who did whatever he felt like. He was extroverted in nature, causing him to make friends faster, but also made more mistakes such as getting tricked, used, and manipulated.

While Felix was the opposite, he was cryptic and anti-social. He trusted no one but himself and Kael, which led to him making fewer friends and speaking in matters that didn't concern him.

Cathy still remembered the brawl when Felix had called Kael's girlfriend a gold-digging hoe. However, it later turned out to be true and ended with Kael crying over the loss of his savings.

Cathy looked at the retreating back of Felix and thought of consoling him, but then she decided against it. Grumpy Felix was like a sleeping tiger, better not to disturb.

So Cathy turned away and climbed the stairs, heading towards Kael.

On the ground floor, Felix walked in his oversized hoodie, a hood, and a black mask covering his face as he kept his hands in his pockets.

The bicycles and motorbikes kept in the parking were tumbled over, and some sirens of the cars blared, caused by loose bricks that fell over them. He walked to an old bicycle and gently plucked it out of the rubble, dusting it with a scrap cloth.

He sighed when he noticed the gear chain of the bicycle was broken. His sight steered to the metal body of the bike, glancing at his name which was engraved on it.

He stared at it in sorrow, but then shook his head and tossed it back into the rubble, keeping his hands back in his pockets.

'There is no signal down here, but maybe I can get some network near the tower?' Felix thought in his mind as he began to walk in a direction.
