Chapter 29: Against The Wolf (1)

"Everyone, take your positions!" Xu Zhaoting said as he addressed the students leading the front.

The students of Tian Lan Magic High, particularly squads one and three that had teamed together, all stood in front of the dark cave.

After climbing with the use of ropes, the students had finally reached the cave, all in position to confront the beast.

"Damon, we all are ready," Xu Zhaoting said as he came to Damon's side quietly, who was just observing the pond in front of the cave.

The pond appeared to be half empty, but on the wall were traces of water indicating the level that was nearly double the current level just a few moments ago.

"Yeah..." Damon just nodded slightly with a pensive look on his face as he observed the pond as the squad took their positions.

'Is this really that water?' This was the thought that ran through Damon's mind right now as he observed the pond. His memories were hazy, but he still remembered the fight of Mo Fan with the spirit wolf. After all, it was his first fight and one of the highlighted moments of the novel.

In the fight, everyone was scared shitless and abandoned their posts, running away for their lives just by seeing the beast. Only a few students of the class did well and tried to fight back, but all their attempts were futile. The only one who was able to manage to damage the beast was Mo Fan with his magic and slight damage by the lightning strike of Xu Zhaoting, but that's all.

The magic wolf, after receiving Mo Fan's magic attack, jumped into the pond Damon was observing, and that's when the spirit wolf went out of control of its summoner Bai Yang.

Later, to save the students, Mo Fan decided to be the distraction and entered the cave, chased by the wolf, where the instructors were unable to observe the fight anymore. Finally, with a stroke of luck, Mo Fan was able to kill the beast by dropping a stalactite that pierced the beast.

This was the original plot of the story. Looking at the pond, Damon pondered deeply about the battle he would have while also wondering about the water in the pond.

'Did the Vatican really start their plan this early on?' In the novel, the Black Vatican, the heinous terrorist organization, has a formula that they use to contaminate water sources and use rain to make magical beasts go mad and rampage in human settlements. It's a very dangerous trick to cause grand chaos.

In the novel, when the beast fell into the pool, it was said that from there on, the beast went wild, but Damon doesn't believe this much.

'Bai Yang was a part of the Black Vatican, and knowing those crazy bastards, he would have ordered the beast to go on a rampage rather than having the beast lose its control.' Bai Yang, the military man who is the summoner of the wolf, was later revealed to be part of the Black Vatican. The man was also a veteran in summoning elements, and Damon doesn't quite buy his excuse of the magical beast just happening to go on a rampage on its own by jumping into the pond.

The main reason was how secretive and cautious the Black Vatican is. They are scheming against Bo City, and being so secretive, Damon doesn't think Bai Yang really poisoned the pond and gave some lousy explanation that the wolf lost its control when it jumped into the pond. This explanation may only backfire on him if Zhang Kong took his words seriously and had experts analyze the pond.

Because of this, the chances of the pond being truly poisoned are less, and it is more possible that Bai Yang just wanted to cause havoc and kill students here.

'Anyway, this is all just a hypothesis of mine... for now, just treat this pond as true and take proper precautions to not allow the beast into the pond,' Damon thought as he turned around and looked at the team properly arranged in their respective positions.

'Even with this lineup, the victory is quite hard to achieve...' Except for Mo Fan and Damon, everyone else is just a level one primary mage. Their powers are limited to being able to cast only one spell of their respective elements.

Namely, Fire Burst: Scorch and Lightning Strike: Python Mark, the only two spells that can inflict damage, not counting Damon and Mo Fan's higher spell.

For defense, the only spell available is the water elemental spell, Water Defense: Resolve, which creates a circular barrier of water.

For mobility, Wind Trail of the wind element and Earth Element's Earth Wave: Shifting.

For the light element, Level 1 Illuminating: Cleanse (creates a human-sized rain of light particles adept at dealing with dark element magic), which can only be used for illumination of the cave only... fucking light bulbs.

'And finally Ice Element's Ice Spread,' Damon thought as he watched the three ice elementals of their batch, who also took part in the front line. The ice spread isn't a spell that can do damage to the wolf, nor would it be able to bind the wolf... simply speaking, it was the most useless of all elements as of now.

'This pathetic combination of spells... sigh, the chances of my plan working are kind of low, but... yeah,' Damon thought while shaking his head. He doesn't have much trust in his classmates, knowing how weak they are and what they might do in the future, but Damon holds some hope that his plan will work. But the chances of failing are also very high, so Damon is mostly counting on his own strength and defensive equipment to face the beast. But to fully utilize them, he would need to follow Mo Fan's path and have the wolf chase him inside the cavern where no one could see and use his powers.

Damon watched the students finally taking their respective positions, taking deep breaths while some were holding their chests to ease their hearts, knowing the monstrosity they were going to face.

"Let's begin then... Light Elementals, start," Damon came to the very front of the group and ordered.

Without wasting a second, the light elementals began their chants and slowly materialized their spells, illuminating the dark cavern to the world, slowly making their way inside, followed by Damon and the others.

A sudden fishy smell blew out from inside the cavern, violently swatting the forty students' faces with its stench…

It resembled a large wave coming over to swat them. Their hair and clothes were a mess, and they could feel moisture gathering on their faces!

"Awoooh!"

"Awooooooooh!!!"

Two frightening and vicious howls came from the depths of the cavern.

At that moment, everyone seemed to understand what the great breath that carried a sticky steam was!

Heavens! That was the saliva from the roar of a Magical Beast!

The forty students were all startled, their bodies stiffening up in shock.

Magical Beast!

It's a Magical Beast!!!

At school, they had to frequently study Magical Beasts. In their heads, they had thought numerous times about their future battles against Magical Beasts. However, once they felt the two insatiable gazes on them from the deepest parts of the cavern, their minds went blank.

Even Damon, who was fully prepared, was in utter shock as he looked at the monster in front of him. His hands were shaking, and his legs began to feel weak, heart beating faster than ever before, as every inch of his body screamed to run away as far as he could from the being in front of him. Damon felt fear like never before, but somehow his brain was still able to think clearly. Fear and panic began to rush into his brain, but still, his rationality remained, fighting back the fear, still holding its ground.

In the next second, their faces changed into the dread they had kept within the deepest part of their hearts.

The Light Magician's light was still hovering in the air, illuminating the cave before them.

A hairy green foot suddenly came out of the dark. Its claws, as sharp as knives, sank into the ground…

Following this, it slowly stretched its head over; revealing itself with the help of the illumination from the hovering lights!

Rows of fierce teeth appeared. More shockingly, its fore fangs extended from its upper jaws all the way to its lower jaws, fully exposing its presence within the students' vision.

Green saliva was dripping down from two sword-like fangs, revealing that this thing was starving at the moment.

The fierce and terrifying wolf's head had a neck that was brimming with even more strength than an average wolf, and longer than a camel's, as well as a body with rock-solid muscles. It had dark blue fur that was as sharp as needles covering its entire body…

This Magical Beast was standing in front of the forty students, its eyes completely looking at them as though they were delicacies voluntarily being delivered to it.

"R…r…run!!" someone's voice shivered as they screamed.
