Chapter 25: Into The Wild
"This freaking Chief Military instructor, I really want to curse him for sending us to such a sly place," Wang Sanpang couldn't help but curse at the instructor who arranged the test while packing the tents they carried.
"Ouch, but Brother Damon, do you really have to be so brutal with us? The girls beat us so hard." As the boy sat, he couldn't help but complain to Damon as he felt the burning sensation on his face. The boy's face was covered with large red marks, resembling handprints on his cheeks. The stinging pain ran through them as he looked at the huge figure of Damon holding a machete as he walked forward.
"How's that my fault? Who was the one who tried to sneak on the girls taking their bath?" Damon, who heard the complaint, suddenly stopped and looked back at the tired boys demanding rest, while many were panting, clearly needing some.
"But couldn't you keep quiet? How can you turn your back against your brothers? Traitor! You broke our trust," Zhang Shuhua, a boy with a long neck, suddenly called out as the palm prints on both of his cheeks hurt.
Damon didn't answer them and just stayed silent. It's been ten days since the practical exam started. Damon and Mo Fan, along with other classmates, a total of 20 students, were grouped together in a team as they wandered the jungle in search of their bounty that they were ordered to hunt.
For ten days, the group had to camp in the wild and survive as they trekked the mountain roads in search of the magical beasts they were assigned to hunt.
Last night, the group of boys decided to sneak on the girls in their camps, but before they could feast their eyes on the named figures of the girls, their faces were assaulted by the soft hands of the girls, leaving red imprints.
"Perverts," Zhou Min, one of the girls of the squad, couldn't help but comment in disgust as she watched the boys with disdain.
"It was good that Damon had informed us in time," another girl from the squad said, which was followed by nods from the other girls in the squad.
"These guys, seriously... sigh, anyway, we have to just travel 30 km to find the beast, don't we? It's been ten days since we started and we haven't arrived at the location yet."
"Are we lost?"
"No, the thirty kilometers is the distance if it was a straight line. We have had to climb hills, cross valleys, and take detours around mountains. This kind of road is more than 30 kilometers," Zhang Xiaohou explained.
"Has everyone packed up?" Damon, who was leading the group, finally asked as the students finished gathering their essentials.
"Good, now let's continue to Hundred Grass Valley." Under Damon's instructions, the group once again resumed their journey as they climbed up the cliff and walked down toward Hundred Grass Valley, the next destination they had.
"At this speed we're traveling, we might be the first group in the race," Xu Zhaoting, the only other lightning elemental mage in the entire school who was also part of Damon's group, said as he watched the other group that stood at the other end of the river as they struggled with the cliff they were on.
With Damon using his map, which was more accurate and reliable than any other map, the group was safely able to travel at a very fast pace. The only problem the group may have faced under Damon's leadership was probably crossing the cliff, but like in the novel, Damon used Zhang Xiaohou to cross the river and made it to the other side yesterday only before the sun set.
As night approached, Damon ordered the group to travel down the cliff and set up camp near the river to rest, while students also got the chance to freshen up after 9 days of living in the wilderness.
"Look, it's Mu Bai's team," Zhang Xiaohou suddenly exclaimed as he recognized the team.
"Ah, let's take a look at how they are able to cross this. I wish to see that green tea man fall into the river." Mo Fan, who was also tagged in the team, suddenly said, causing the students to halt their steps and look at the other team, wondering about their performance.
"Leave them be, we need to reach Hundred Grass Valley first if we want our lead to be maintained," Damon, who was in front, suddenly shouted and ordered the team to move on, which they all agreed to.
After passing through the valley and walking past the weeds that were taller than people, everyone finally arrived at Hundred Grass Valley!
The Hundred Grass Valley had multiple entrances. If you wanted to pass through the ravine, you had to go along those narrow, curved paths.
"Why does this path have so much rattan? They are all dropping down from the top of the mountain; it looks disgusting," the more delicate girls immediately began to whisper.
Tree sticks and grass vines were intertwined on the ground of this narrow path. Some of them looked like a python from a distance, others were tangled on the ground; it looked as though they had walked into a den of black pythons.
"It's just some broken vines; what's there to be afraid of? Come, follow me!" The time for Wang Sanpang to show off his heroic side had come as he walked confidently by himself to the front, walking past Damon who was silently observing the vines.
Wang Sanpang's bloated body broke through the wrist-sized vines before him as he strode forward.
His physique was indeed very suitable for opening up this kind of path. If he could cross over, then the remaining students could also cross over.
"Ah! What the heck, what's going on? Oh crap, help me! HELP ME!" Suddenly, Wang Sanpang let loose a noise that resembled a dog being beaten up from the inside.
The students subconsciously took several steps back as they looked around. At the same time, they also felt goosebumps creeping up.
It seemed like those vines could move!
These twisting vines quickly tied Wang Sanpang up as he entered the path. Wang Sanpang's obese physique was then turned upside down.
The vines had thistles and thorns on their bodies, so when they tightened, Wang Sanpang's fat skin was getting ripped slowly as the vines constricted, causing the blood to flow out.
"HELP! HELP!" The man wailed like a child as he asked the students for help, who were all stunned by the sudden turn of events and were too shocked to react. Even Damon was stunned, but hearing the cries of his classmate, he quickly gathered himself.
Stepping forward, Damon swung the machete he held diagonally at the vines, cutting them as fast as he could. One, two, three, he kept on cutting vines with every swing he took, finally breaking Wang Sanpang free.
"Aaaah," the fat man wailed like a child as he freed himself from the vines before lunging at Damon's legs, tightly holding them.
"The fuck are you doing!" Damon couldn't help but curse at the pig-faced man, startled by his behavior, but quickly turned around, giving orders to the other members of the squad.
"Zhou Min and all fire mages, quickly cast Fire Burst! These demonic vines are usually weak to the fire element."
Picking up Wang Sanpang, who weighed nearly 80 kg, with his hands easily, Damon moved backward behind the team of fire mages, where only Zhou Min cast the spell while all other mages were too disoriented to cast the spell, burning the vines down.
"Fire Burst!"
A ball of flames emerged from Zhou Min's palm before she threw it. The ball of flames was thrown amidst the Demonic Vines, and a burning sound immediately arose.
The scorching flames immediately burned out the middle of the Demonic Vines.
The flames rose, and the speed they spread was fairly quick. They instantly swallowed a large number of the Demonic Vines.
The Demonic Vines were extremely afraid of flames. After Zhou Min cast Fire Burst, the Demonic Vines quickly withdrew, and the students finally let out sighs of relief.
