Chapter 3: Boring School Life
'Access Denied? Oh yeah, I did mention about that...'
The awakening of the system and its features has certain conditions to activate; for the system, it was the start of the plot, and for the final function of this 'system gift,' a kind of newbie gift package, to receive this Damon had to be awakened first.
'Well, I won't be able to use it before awakening anyway...'
Damon knew about the content of the gift package; hence, he was in no hurry to open it. Closing the large screens in front of him, Damon finally noticed the teacher who was still teaching the class.
"To activate primary rank magic, first, you need to link all the stars in your Stardust. This way, a mage can perform magic while being able to access the star force..."
'Boring...'
Letting out a yawn Damon couldn't help but comment in his mind as he listened to the boring lecture.
The teacher was just revising the basic concepts necessary to remember for the mage examination that was going to be held in a few months.
To become a mage as an ordinary person who doesn't have any background or financial support, Damon could only rely on the annual awakening ceremonies that magic high schools carry out after enrollment using low-quality awakening stones.
To be eligible for this ceremony, one needs to first get recruited into a magic high school, for which one needs to pass the eligibility test held at the end of middle school and pay the hefty admission fee.
"With scholarships, as long as I rank first in the magic test, money won't be an issue..."
Since the moment Damon entered elementary school, he had been holed up in libraries, learning more and more about magic theories.
The theories revolve around myriad concepts originating from magic, and Damon fully focused on learning them. Be it basic theories or the advanced ones taught at the college level, Damon was able to learn them all thanks to his active behavior in regards to learning.
The books were all freely accessible to the public through libraries, and if one puts in enough effort, they can easily understand them all. With this, Damon was able to learn freely without any constraints.
'I still couldn't make a sense how the science and maths are thought to be concept of fiction'
Yeah in this world the people don't believe in science and maths, 'I mean the fuck? They are literally printing and earning money and giving out scores how can you still deny the existence of maths?'
Being a magic focused civilization the people haven't even explored the basics of science which can be understandable with a bit of thought but how can they deny the existence of thing they use everyday?
'It's as if being a man denying the existence of penis'
The math in this world is still limited to counting numbers, performing basic operations and percentage as the most advanced concept.. a total bullshit where even the most educated people would not be able to solve basic math problems.
'Sigh.. no wonder the world's economy is in mess'
Damon shook his head as he thought, his foundation in magic and it's theoretical knowledge was really good, which allowed Damon to pass a lot of competitive examinations and qualify for free education programs and other scholarships.
Looking out of the class, Damon muttered to himself as the teacher finished his lecture and announced the lunch break. The clear, beautiful sky where the sun hung high, looking at the clouds floating in the sky, Damon entered a dazed state.
"The plot is about to begin..."
Leaning back on the chair, he looked around at the students playing among themselves as he thought.
Damon and Mo Fan were enrolled in different middle schools. Damon actually wanted to enroll at Mo Fan's middle school at first to be close to the main cast but decided against it as the school was more than an hour away from his residence.
Without any vehicle, Damon could not possibly waste his time traveling to a school so far away, not to mention that there was no reason for him to be close to the main cast, at least so early.
Living in this world for so long, Damon has accepted it as reality and understands that this life of his is independent of the main cast's future, so there isn't an obligation for him to entertain the thought of being friends with them. Above all, the main cast is the epicenter of all trouble, so wouldn't it be better to avoid them and live a little more peacefully?
Not to mention how disadvantageous it would be for Damon to be friends with Mo Fan from early on. Mo Fan's enmity with the Mu Family was a talk of the town, and it affected the families of the kids close to Mo Fan. Damon doesn't want to face the same fate as them.
Because of this, Damon kept his distance from the protagonist without getting involved with the future guardian of the azure dragon.
"Then there is also Mu Ningxue..."
Mu Ningxue, the ice princess of the Mu Family, the prodigy of Ice Magic—countless titles were crowned to the little girl from a very early age.
Damon had also heard about her in this life but never got acquainted with her. He had seen the girl play with Mo Fan during his visit to watch the protagonist, and that was all.
The girl was beautiful, Damon had to admit, but still a child in Damon's eyes. Fortunately, Damon was not a pedophile and didn't entertain thoughts of becoming one.
Unlike the most of the characters of various novels and fanfics who would just go on and groom the minors, Damon wasn't a pedophile and his conscience couldn't allow him to pull something as lowly as this.
Yeah the girl would undoubtedly be a powerful mage and a beauty but it still doesn't give enough of a reason for Damon to be head over heels for her without any reason.
Lost in thoughts, Damon made it through the end of school, rushing out of class and making his way toward the small lottery store he discovered through his map, securing the lottery with the prize equivalent to a hundred thousand yuan on the first try.a
