My eyes remained on them as they stared with no atom of emotion on their faces. I never knew I had cousins... Even though I have heard George converse with father about our relatives, I had never seen them before. Which was fine since I was literally a prisoner in my own world.

I have been told countless times that I couldn't step out of the mansion and even forbidden to make friends with people who were lower in status.

When our family had guests, or hosted any party at all, father sends a message to me beforehand telling me not to step out of my quarters. Sometimes when he had guest stay over, I stay trapped in my room for the number of days they stayed.

I have been told that I could never attend family meetings until the Vald authorized it, and for the number of years I had lived, never for once had he even acknowledged me as his son or even stood to be seen in public with me.
