Chapter 43: The next best thing

"Lithe made it clear to Ash a few minutes earlier that he didn't want to be any man's plaything," interrupted Zen flatly.

As much as he could tolerate either of the men it would look bad if the men fought and got blood all over the beautiful gallery.

Out of respect for tradition and in defense of Lithe, Zen decided to be the bigger person and put a stop to any possible bloodshed that evening.

Looking at Zen woefully, Brian said solemnly, "I'd ask but I already know that my parents would never agree to a marriage between Lithe and I."

To everyone in the room's surprise it was Ash who responded to Brendan, possibly trying to smooth things over between them.

"Look at me and Christina, we are a love match, you never know until you ask. If you truly love Lithe you should defy your parents and just marry Lithe."

He was interceding on Brian's behalf because since he was marrying Christina and bigamy wasn't a thing in the Allerdyce continent.
