After a few minutes, Iva finally returned to the castle. There was nobody to tease or taunt her as she had expected.

"Lyn?" she called, searching around the house when she heard voices coming from Layla's room. Iva entered the room and found Jacquelyn sitting on the bed with Layla as she tried to comb the girl's hair.

"Iva!" Layla clapped her hands together happily, announcing the arrival of her soon-to-be mother.

Jacquelyn raised her eyes and smiled. "You're back," she said, picking up Layla's hair and brushing it slowly until it was smooth.

Iva touched her neck, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. "About earlier... I'm sorry I reacted without thinking properly. You're right, we should think before acting."
