Chapter Three: Yes, That Hermes!

Yes!

That Hermes!

One of the upper gods of Olympus itself, he was known for his special speed that transcended even that of most gods. Serving at the right hand I'd Zeus himself. And also known as the messanger God or the god of boundaries, speed and travel. And also one of the most clever gods in Greek mythology.

If he was here that must have meant that he had news for Hades which was me, does that I replaced the real Hades?

It is more important I focus on the matter at hand which was dealing with Hermes.

Being a big fan of Hermes my hands shook as they grabbed the door handles, thoughts raced through my head on what to say when I meet him. A moment's delay could cause my heart to explode from the excitement.

CLICK!

I turned the door knob and pulled it open to see a tall handsome man with short beautiful yellow hair hidden under his gold winged helmet. Bright energetic eyes, and a very cute face almost like a university student. His jawline was rounded ad his face beaming with a smile as he raised his hand and said. "Yo!"

What first threw me off was the way he addressed me— Hades. Not with fear or respect but a casual greeting not in any of the Olympus myth I have read.

What threw me off next was his outfit. He was wearing a simple blue T-shirt and shirt brown trousers. Like a new Yorker or something.

I could not help but say. "What is wrong with you? You look like a rip off, all those years and I get this?" Is covered my eyes from his hideous sight. "If I had know I would have majored in accounting or medicine."

I looked up to see Hermes sparkling in the air as his smile beamed wider, his eyes also doubled in size. I was not sure if it was a god thing but it was awfully startling.

"Wooooah!!" Hermes jumped up for joy as if I had just complimented him. He was overly energetic which was within my expectations given his status as one of the twelve Olympus gods. "For over one hundred years this is the first time you did not shut the door in my face. You even spoke to me and complimented me."

"But something does not feel right about it! It's like you are a different person entirely."

Hermes' words made me choke but I did not show it. How was he able to discern that I was a different person? I suppose it is true that Hermes is very sensitive to things despite being lightheaded.

I had not stopped to think what would happen if the gods were to catch me in a slip up where I would act out of the character of Hades would they kill me? Would there be a war? I know I might be overthinking things but I know I can't let my own existence be known to the other gods.

Does that mean I have to relive the life of Hades in the original mythology but if I did that then whose story would I be living? Mine or the original Hades?

Does my involvement here mean that I get to write a new story of Olympus for the future, one with a more favorable ending.

But to do that I have to live as Hades and not deviate from the story no matter how--

But I have this urge to write a new story. To do that I have to be a believable Hades, I have to be dark and cryptic just like Hades was and not raise toouch suspicious. I will explore as much as I can of Olympus before it falls!

"Yo! Hades, you are awfully silent. Are you back to the silent treatment so soon?" Hermes whined.

One of the clear advantages of the character --Hades was in fact his character. Hades had always been one to never come into the full fold, this inturn enables me to be able to call down and access any given situation at any given time. This was one of my main reasons for choosing him. I can be allowed to be cryptic without being suspected.

Now to deal with Hermes!

Pfft, I still can't believe he's standing there and wearing a simple polo. The other professors would have laughed.

"Her--mes?" So I'm just going to refer to him so casually. "Why are you here by this time? Isn't it too early to be making a ruckus?" I tried to be more negative about my approach that way I felt I would appeal to the original Hades behaviour.

But Hermes still smiled and looked even happier If not for the always frowning face of Hades I would have laughed myself. "Hades, you seem to have woken up at the right side of the bed for the first time in over a hundred years."

I think I was starting to get annoyed by the fact thar he was taking so long, beating around the bush.

"Why are you here?" I asked more bolder, my new voice seemed to assert a dominanace likened to a god.

Hermes stuck his hands in his pocket and started to rummage through them. "Darn it, did I lose the letter or something? Maybe I left it back at the... Wait give me a second to..." He became blur that soon vanished from my sight.

I wondered how a the messanger god would be so forgetful? And careless! This Olympus was really odd.

A few seconds later Hermes appeared before me, a little out of breath and holding up a scroll to my face. "Forgot this. It's from Zeus about a matter of great urgency against the gods. Olympus has been broken into."

"What!?" My voice showed great urgency as I snatched the scroll from his hand and opened it up. My eyes quickly scanned through its contents. "Ahh, I see."

It was the matter that had to do with Prometheus the first champion of humanity. He was also known as father of of science and art. In all of his great works, the greatest was his achievement in sculpting humanity from clay. The gods of Olympus were quite intrigued by the fact of an even lesser race to rule over, so they were in good terms with Prometheus.

That is until his love for humanity drove him to defy the gods and steal from them fire and give to his most precious creation. My role here is quite minimal, but it will be a great treat to watch this play out before my very eyes.

"Oh and Poseidon told me to tell you this, Zeus is furious and planning to wipe out all of humanity!" Hermes' words had me jolted.

This was not in the original story, does that mean that I have to stop the most powerful Olympian god from destroying humanity?
