Lightly tapping my feet on the floor as I waited for Mr Soo to be done with his phone call got me even more anxious.
My head was spinning with a ton of questions. And I hoped to get the answers I desired.
"Ah, have you been waiting long?" Mr Soo asked, placing his phone down.
He had this big bright smile like someone who had just won the jackpot.
"Not at all." I answered. "Mr Soo, over the phone, you said they were twins?" I asked, going straight to the point.
"Ah, yes." He nodded. "And they have such wonderful features too. It's golden."
Hearing that, I gulped. It was all narrowing down to what I was suspicious about.
"They contacted me on Friday and we met on Saturday. At first, I didn't want to believe it but you know, as they say, seeing is believing." He said and laughed out.
Yeah, seeing is believing and I wanted to see for myself who these twins were before I could believe it.
"Mr Soo, I'm glad that you're excited about this but the truth is..."
"Brrr." Mr Soo's telephone rang.
"Wait, hold on a minute. Let me take this." He picked up the telephone and answered.
His telephone was connected to the receptionist on the lower floor and also to the lady in front of his office, so one of them must be the caller.
"Ah, is that so?" His face beamed with more excitement. "Let them in right away."
He put down the telephone and laughed heartily.
"Speak of the devil. They're on their way right now." He said and I blinked, still confused.
"By them, you mean the twins?"
"Yes. They called themselves the Kim brothers." As soon as he said this, my eyes widened. "Kim Seojin and Kim Seojun."
The door opened and a group of people walked in. I was backing the door, so it took a moment to see who they were till they stopped right behind me and placed their hands on my shoulder.
"It's been a while, Hyung."
I froze up. It was really them. They... Came all this way, for what?
"Hm, Hyung, you don't look happy to see us." Seojun said. "That's sad."
"And to think we came all this way for you. Do you want to crush our feelings, Hyung?"
'What are they talking about? They'll make Mr. Soo misunderstand.' but contrary to my worries, Mr Soo looked pleased.
"Now that we're all here, can we start with the contract signing?" He asked as the lady, who had walked in with them, came forth with some documents. "The twins have conditioned that they live in the same building as you."
"What?" I exclaimed, shocked.
"Since they just got back from Italy, they don't have a place to stay so we will provide a private lodging for them, right next to yours."
I didn't just hear that. That was a death sentence, right?
I glanced at them. They looked happy. Why? Why were they doing this?
"And also, they would like their pictures taken by you."
"Huh?"
"Though your photography skills are great, we can't leave them entirely to you so we asked that you cooperate with the other photographers."
I was speechless. Honestly, what was I doing there again? Ah, yes, I was there to figure out how the twins came in contact with Wailers and why they gave such conditions.
It wasn't so bad. Actually, it was great that I would be the man behind the perfect shot of these two godlike characters but... Why did I have to live next to them?
"Um, do I get a say in this?" I asked, awkwardly raising my hand.
"Oh? Is there something you are dissatisfied with? Perhaps the salary?" Mr Soo asked and I took a brief glance at the contract.
The renumeration... Honestly, I didn't care if they gave me a few numbers since they were already providing me with a house, so I wouldn't struggle for house rent but...
My eyes widened as soon as I took a look at the remuneration.
"This... This..." It was far from a few numbers. So photographers get paid this heavily?
"Are you dissatisfied?" Mr Soo asked but I shook my head, frantically.
"Not at all." I said. "This... It's far more than I actually imagined."
"Hoho, we treat our employees sincerely." Mr Soo said. "Much better when they're the ones bringing in new faces." He winked.
Okay, I just had to take that as an additional benefit for bringing in the twins. But... I wasn't exactly the one who brought them in.
I glanced at them. They had their eyes on me the whole time, smiling nicely. What did they want?
"Now that that's settled, can we proceed with the signing?"
I had nothing to complain about. The benefits were good and I was sure I would get to work continuously and satisfactorily with the passion I had from when I was still a kid.
And those two kids... Once again I stole a glance at them, they were still staring. They were far from being just kids now, though. I used to be taller than them since I was older but now they're taller and far more fleshy... My mind went to the chest I had grabbed and almost got a nosebleed.
Yeah, far more fleshy.
And compared to them, I was just skin and bones, having eaten mostly instant noodles all my life.
"What's wrong, Hyung?" Seojin asked and I snapped out of my thoughts. "Won't you sign?"
I looked at the contract in front of me. No more hesitating now.
I picked up the pen and signed the contract. It was a done deal.
"That's great, Hyung." Seojun said. "We'll be in your care from now on."
He stretched his hand for a handshake.
"Ah, yes. Please take care of me." I said, shaking his hand.
"Me too, Hyung."
I shook Seojin as well.
It was still a mystery how they came to know about my circumstance and how they got in contact with Mr Soo but I had no plans of digging into it.
Well, what was the worst that could happen, right? All I needed to do was stick to my job. We might run into each other once or twice when going home and coming back but we didn't necessarily have to hold a conversation.
'I can do this. I'll avoid them as much as I can.'
Or so I thought.
On our way out, I planned to make a run for it to avoid speaking with the twins but Seojin suddenly grabbed my shoulder and said,
"Hyung, do you have a minute? We would like to have a word with you." He said and my throat went dry. Talk? What talk?
"Um, I... I'm kinda b-busy right now, so..."
"Hm? Are you sure?" Seojin asked. "I was sure you'd like to talk since you left without a word. I know you have your reasons so I want to hear them out. Or, was I mistaking it?"
He was clearly smiling but why did I have that sense of foreboding coming from him?
I glanced at Seojun, who equally had a smile but it felt like I was being cornered to admit my wrongdoing.
I gulped.
"A-alright. Let's talk."
Why do things never go the way I plan?
