He couldn't be sure whether Danzo had already used the Kotoamatsukami or not.
In the Anime, there's also zero mention of what Danzo did to Shisui's eyes right after obtaining them.
Kotoamatsukami is an important part of Kayn's plan. If it turns out to be used already, then it would surely throw the entire plan into a dumpster fire.
Of course, later it was revealed that by using Hashirama's cells, the cooldown for using Kotoamatsukami was shortened to once a day instead of once per decade. But that was when a couple of years had already passed.
Danzo most likely transplanted the eye for not even that long. Who knows if the case would be similar to what he knows or not?
There are so many variables on the way. So acting based on his future information alone would not be wise.
"Elder Setsuna, if you were Danzo, who would you use Shisui's eyes on?" Kayn took the initiative to bring up the topic.
Uchiha Setsuna followed Kayn's words and tried to put his perspective into Danzo's. He was silent for a couple of seconds, then a thoughtful gleam flashed in his hazy eyes.
Although he cannot know the exact reason for it, just by going through a list of names and seeing who garners the most interest in it, he could already make an educated guess.
"Either it's Sarutobi Hiruzen or Uzumaki Naruto, the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki."
"Hmm... Elder Setsuna, you have a very keen eye. Thanks to you, I managed to come up with an idea." Kayn flattered him at the right time.
Setsuna laughed heartily "You little rascal, tell it to me."
As mentioned before, Uchiha Setsuna was not aware that Danzo only had one eye in his hand.
All thanks to how Kayn handled the overall flow of information. Doing that allowed him to take the initiative when it came to conversations like this.
But he can't let his guard down. He has to make some reasonable analysis first before attempting to convince the Elder of his whims. Otherwise, he will be caught by this sharp old man.
Going back to the main topic...
In regards to Sarutobi being the target of the Kotoamatsukami... Although Kayn likes to believe that such a thing is impossible to happen given that both are accomplices, the fact that the possibility still exists keeps him from doing so.
As the saying goes, birds of the same feather flock together.
Regardless, Kayn is more inclined to believe that Danzo would use Kotoamatsukami on Naruto.
Chakra works in a bizarre way. It is simple yet complicated at the same time... unexplainable even.
In any case, to make the explanation much shorter, Ashura's chakra signature has already been passed for thousands of years. With such a fact, it wouldn't be surprising if it already has a profound impact on the one who's inheriting it.
The same thing as to how the Nine-Tails' chakra drives Naruto crazy whenever it dominates his entire body.
In addition, Kayn could vaguely remember that the Nine-Tailed Fox had already been tempting Naruto to release the seal pretty early on. So it's safe to say that his personality while growing up, looking at the fox at that time, should've been more... feral.
But that isn't the case at all.
From this perspective, it seems that Ashura's and Nine-Tails' influence over Naruto had almost neutralized each other.
Not to mention that Naruto's environment, while growing up, was quite harsh.
But even under such circumstances, Naruto always wanted to be the Hokage, to gain everyone's recognition, and to protect the village...
If Naruto didn't get hit by Kotoamatsukami, the only explanation is that he is a natural masochist.
But obviously, Naruto is not that kind of character!
He was subjected to cold violence, exclusion, and insults by villagers and children. Like any kid of his age, he would feel sad, aggrieved, and even shed tears.
Growing up in such an environment, it is a miracle that he did not develop an antisocial personality.
Moreover, in the parallel world created by the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Naruto's counterpart Menma was born.
The one that got consumed by the darkness and later used the Great Spiralling Ring to blow up most of Konoha!
So, the question is, here in the real world, where did that darkness within Naruto go?
Well, where else but straight to an imaginary land of nothingness.
Finally arriving at an answer, Kayn pulled himself out of his thoughts, and carefully gave a response, "Elder Setsuna, I think it is safe to believe that Uzumaki Naruto will be the target."
"We can observe to see if the boy has already been targeted. If not, then it proves that Shimura Danzo was on guard against our clan, and it is very likely that he wanted to use it on you or the clan leader at a critical moment."
Kayn said this with a dreadful tone on purpose.
To deepen Setsuna's sense of crisis.
Well, any normal person would definitely not want his will to be controlled by others... unless you have a kink for that kind of play.
A kink that, fortunately, Elder Setsuna doesn't have.
Cause upon hearing Kayn's entire idea, he looked extremely pleased. Everyone can surely tell that he must be raining Kayn with praises inside his head right now.
"So, how do you plan to observe Uzumaki Naruto?"
Kayn smiled bitterly and said, "To be honest, I don't know either. I'm just good at talking, but I still have to rely on you, Elder Setsuna, to decide how to do it."
Kayn does have a plan to contact Naruto, but definitely not now.
Getting close to that boy now will only spell disaster for him.
The Nine-Tails incident has become a sensitive nerve for Konoha. If anyone, especially a shinobi from the Uchiha clan rashly approaches Naruto, there will surely be trouble. That doesn't even include the current situation.
"I will arrange this matter." Uchiha Setsuna suddenly changed the subject and asked an irrelevant question "Do you think it is possible to win over Hatake Kakashi?"
To this question, Kayn is honestly not sure what the answer would be.
If it was the teenage Kakashi, the chances of success would be very high. Konoha's White Fang, aka Hatake Sakumo, his suicide is closely related to both Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzo.
However, Kakashi had been an Anbu and experienced too much darkness in his life already.
So it's really hard to say what choice he could possibly make now. Besides, Kayn's initial prediction of his actions had already been wrong so, in regards to this, he's not something that should be asked.
In any case, going on a pretty similar case, originally, Kayn had no interest in Kakashi's Kamui, but now that the situation has changed...
Kayn asked, "When are you going to arrange for someone to remove Kakashi's eye?"
"Tomorrow." Uchiha Setsuna acted decisively.
"Then I'll go and try tomorrow. See if I can convince Hatake Kakashi."
Uchiha Setsuna patted Kayne's arm to show his approval "Okay, I'll leave this matter to you."
"Elder Setsuna, I would like to ask you, what do you plan to do with Hatake Kakashi's Sharingan after you retrieve it?"
Uchiha Setsuna thought for a moment and said, "I'm planning to entrust it to you for a while. If we can survive this crisis, you can return the eye to him. If not, let this eye perish along with our clan."
Kayn carefully observed Uchiha Setsuna's micro-expressions and was then relieved to find that he wasn't lying.
He was really nervous just now. Elder Setsuna seems very fond of him at this current moment, so it wouldn't be surprising if he were to say that he should have the eye or something along those lines.
"I understand. I will keep it safe!" Kayn said as he heaved a sigh of relief. "However, Elder Setsuna, regardless of whether Shimura Danzo used Kotoamatsukami or not, please purchase a list of things that we could use for recording."
"No problem, you make a list and I will order Kamakura to go out and buy it."
After that, looking like he just remembered something, Kayn scratched his head and smiled sheepishly "Umm... Actually, my acting skills are still not up for the job yet."
"So, to make sure that I will be able to perform without flaw once we initiate the plan, Elder Setsuna, I'm thinking that I should focus on my training first."
Setsuna, nodding in understanding, immediately called out to his butler outside.
"Kamakura, take Kayn to the open area behind the house."
"As you command, Setsuna-sama."
