"A future?" Lucian repeated, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. "And what do you think that future should look like? Children? A home?" He scoffed, shaking his head. "With someone like you? You'd destroy—"

"Do you think I'd destroy a child too?" Cynthia interrupted, her voice surprisingly sharp, as if she was losing control of herself, which was unlike her. "Hate me if you must. But what about the child born from you? Would you despise your own blood because I'm its mother?"

Lucian's expression darkened. He turned fully towards her, his gaze locking onto hers. For a long moment, neither of them spoke. Cynthia's question lingered between them like a living shadow moving through the air. 

"Don't twist my words," he said finally. 

"I'm not," she responded, releasing his hand and letting it fall between them. "I just want to know… if you'd even consider it. Or if you're going to keep pretending I don't exist."
