The man's brow furrowed, and he took a step forward. "It is my business when I'm the owner of this hotel." He glanced at Natalie over John's shoulder, and could clearly guess what was wrong with her. "I know her. I'm Steve Davis—her friend, Mia's fiancé."

Though he was not on good terms with Mia, Steve felt it was the way to assure John.

Hearing Mia's name, John relaxed slightly, though he kept his guard up. "She's not feeling well, and I'd appreciate it if you didn't interfere."

"John…" Natalie's weak, pained voice reached him. "Hurry…"

Steve stepped aside from his suite's door, gesturing toward it. "Take her to my suite. That one's under maintenance."

John shot him a wary glance, debating whether to trust him, but he had no choice. He wrapped an arm around Natalie to support her as she leaned heavily against him, desperate for any comfort, even if it was John.
