│1st Person POV of ?│
Huh…
They say that your life flashes before your eyes when you are about to die.
Well, it actually does.
Some moments ago, I was enjoying the night breeze on the roof of my apartment building.
I have been doing this every night these past few weeks as the days are getting hotter and hotter as we approach the end of April.
Noticing that it was time for dinner, I decided to head down to my room while ordering food online.
Knowing that the staircase leading from the roof to the fourth floor of my apartment building was a dangerously steep one, I should have been paying attention to that fact.
Instead, I was so focused on searching for the perfect outlet to order food from, that when my foot slipped and I started falling down, there was nothing I could do to stop my fall.
The moment my body made contact with the floor, I felt my neck bones shatter.
Time slowed down and as I lay on the floor with my body sprawled in an awkward angle, everything I ever experienced in my life was being played in front of my mind's eye.
I don't know how but I could feel my death approaching. And to be honest, I don't think I would like to come out of this alive.
I am sure that if I live, I will be paralyzed for a very long time, maybe even for life.
That would be a fate worse than death for me.
Apart from my best friend, there's no one in this world who would accept the burden of taking care of paralyzed me for who knows how many years.
My father and mother passed away 6 and 4 years ago respectively. From then on, whatever relationships I had with my relatives started deteriorating even further.
The last time I even talked to one of my relatives was around 8 months ago, I think.
My best friend would certainly try to take care of me, however, he has his own family to look after. I wouldn't wish to burden him in such a way.
The only regret I have now is that I couldn't accomplish the dream of visiting some places that I always wanted to.
Well, there's nothing I can do about it now, so there's no use thinking about it.
Hmm… I wonder if I will get a second chance at life…
=+=+=+=< Scene Change >=+=+=+=
I look around the place, white ceiling, white walls, and white floor.
I don't know how the hell I'm even able to distinguish the ceiling, walls, and floor from each other!
I just somehow know that I am all alone floating in the center of a small room, about 3m×3m×3m.
Yes, floating! And also transparent and naked.
I am hoping that being trapped in an all-white room for all of eternity isn't my punishment for the sins I committed before my death.
[Welcome!]
…
Well, no matter how cliche the situation seems to be, at the very least, it is clear to me that I won't be trapped in this all-white room longer than necessary.
[Because of the average positive Karma you earned in your last life, you are getting the chance to roll a lucky draw!]
[You will draw a number from 101 to 2000.]
[The number you draw will be the number of points you will have at your disposal!]
[Using these points, you can buy some powers or choose how or where your next life will start!]
[Whenever you are ready, just think 'Draw' with all your heart and it shall be done!]
Umm… I have some questions?
[You can ask your questions.]
Phew~!
For a moment, I feared that whatever entity or system was responsible for these texts, would just ignore me.
Anyway! I should ask my questions before I waste any more time thinking about unimportant things.
Do I get to keep my memories?
[No! If you wish to start your new life with your last life's memories intact, it would cost you 50 Points.]
[You can even specify how and when you would like to unlock your last life's memories without any extra cost.]
That means that even if I draw the lowest number of points possible, it is possible for me to keep my memories.
And I can set it in a way that I won't have to suffer being stuck as a baby in the first few years of my life.
That's good!
…
Whoever or whatever is responsible for taking care of the departed, the customer service they offer is fabulous.
For the last few minutes, I have asked a number of questions and all the answers I got were satisfactory to me.
It seems apart from the world into which I would get reincarnated, I can customize everything else by spending points.
For example, if I am getting reincarnated into One Piece world, then by spending 200 points, I can choose to be born with the D. bloodline.
By spending 20 points, I can boost my intelligence from average level to above average level.
Now then, it is time for the music.
Draw!
[Congratulations! You have gained 1,728 Points!]
…
…
…
Oooh!! Fucking Fantastic! Hahahahaha~!
I didn't expect something like this to happen because I always had shit luck when it comes to situations like this.
[Let's proceed with choosing the World you reincarnate into, shall we?]
Huh? Oh! Yes, Yes! Let's do so!
[World Selecting!]
[...]
[World Selection Complete!]
[World:- High School DxD (Alternate Universe)]
That's… an alright world I suppose.
I could work with this. It wasn't the best-case scenario, but it certainly wasn't the worst.
While it was true Issei was only able to overcome the challenges coming his way through incredible luck and last-minute power-ups in the Canon World, many of the situations could have been solved easily if the leaders and top combat figures of the various factions had taken action when they should have.
Like, instead of sending just Issei and co to deal with the Loki situation, the devil side could have sent someone like Diehauser Belial.
With his strength, plus the replica Gleipnir that Azazel lent to the Gremory Team and Vali Team, Diehauser would have a much easier time subduing Fenrir.
Not to mention that all the members of his Peerage are top-tier High-Class Devil, in rank and power.
They even have immense combat experiences under their belt that certainly made them better equipped to deal with Fenrir's sons and Midgardsormr Clones.
[...]
Ah! I started monologing about unimportant things again. Sorry!
By the way, are the ExE gods a thing in this Alternate Universe?
[What makes this DxD universe an Alternate Universe or whether the ExE Gods exist, you would have to find out about them on your own.]
Oh…
Well, it makes some sense that not everything would be handed to me in silver plater. I don't like it but it doesn't matter either way.
[You can now use your points in whatever manner you wish.]
Ah yes! Points! 1,728 Points!
Let's see if they are enough to buy the most cliche and also one of the most powerful cheats.
Hey, how much is the price for The Gamer System?
[2,000 Points for the Han Jee-Han version!]
[5,000 Points for The Gamer System that also comes with Shop! Any item or power you can imagine can be bought from the Shop.]
[10,000 Points for The Gamer System that has the Shop plus Gacha!]
[...]
[...]
On and on it went listing all the variations of The Gamer System.
There was even a nerfed version that only had the function of just showing my Status and Skills for 100 Points.
However, any variation of the Gamer System that can truly help me reach the level of Great Red or Ophis in just a few years costs at least 2,000 points.
Therefore, they are out of my reach.
Ok, I don't have enough points to buy The Gamer System.
I will come back to what powers I can buy with my points later.
For now, I should ask the second most important question that crossed my mind the moment High School DxD world was chosen.
How many points would it cost me to ensure that I would get reincarnated as a Devil?
[100 Points to make sure you would be reborn as a Devil. Though it could be anything from being born as a Low-Class Devil to a Pure-Blooded High-Class Devil.]
[150 Points to make sure you would be reborn as a Pure-Blooded High-Class Devil without any Clan Trait. Example: Sairaorg Bael from Canon.]
[200 Points to make sure you would be reborn as a Pure-Blooded High-Class Devil with at least one Clan Trait from your parents.]
Hmm… If I put aside 1,500 Points to purchase some good abilities plus the 50 points required to keep the memories of my last life intact, I will have 178 points left.
That means the guaranteed Clan Trait version was out of my reach.
Hmm… let's get back to this later.
What are the prices of the Essences from Essence Meta CYOA?
[Prices of Essence range from 500 to 5,000 Points.]
Cool! What Essences can I buy with 500 Points?
[Essence of the Blank.]
[Essence of the Crafter.]
[Essence of the Archmage.]
[Essence of the Binder.]
[Essence of the Brain.]
[Essence of the Merchant.]
[...]
So basically, all the Essences that don't directly give me some form of power or knowledge, huh?
After a moment of contemplation, I have decided that I will take [Essence of the Blank], [Essence of the Archmage], and [Essence of the Binder].
[Purchasing Essence of the Blank, Archmage, and Binder.]
[Confirm?]
Yes, Confirm!
[Purchase Successful!]
[228 Points left!]
With the help of Archmage and Blank, I will easily be able to use any Clan Trait once I have seen them in use or understood how they work.
So, I will buy the 150 Points Devil option. Also, take 50 Points and let me keep my last life's memories.
Once the purchase went through, I set about pondering how and when exactly I should unlock my memories.
Suddenly, a thought came to me and I hurried to ask the System.
Hey, when exactly will I be born?
[...]
[It has been decided that you will be born 4 years before the birth of Rias Gremory.]
[Specifically, on 19th March 1986.]
Is that so? Hmm…
Well then, I have decided when and how exactly my memories will be unlocked.
In the next moment, I proceeded to specify it to the system.
[...]
[Are you sure about this?]
Absolutely.
[Very Well. Memory Unlocking process has been decided!]
[28 Points left!]
Now, how should I spend these last few points? Ah, I know!
Hey, can I get a Status Interface with the remaining points I have?
Nothing fancy, just a simple interface that will do. It will show my basic information like name, race, age, etc. plus any skills or abilities or perks or whatever I will learn with the help of my Essences.
Oh, it should also show the beings marked by the Essence of the Binder.
[It will cost you 25 Points.]
[Confirm Purchase?]
After confirming the purchase, I asked the system.
Can I get a suggestion on how I should spend the remaining three points?
[It is recommended that you spend them in exchange for increasing your Luck by a small amount.]
Alright, go for it. And no need to ask for confirmation.
[...]
[Points have been used up.]
[You are now ready to start your new life.]
[Whenever you are ready, think 'Ready' with all your heart, and your next Great Adventure will begin.]
Actually, before I go, I want to ask something.
[Go ahead!]
Everything that I purchased and the world I am going to, can you make any changes to them now?
[No, that can't be done.]
[Are you regretting your choices now?]
No, I am not. I just wanted to confirm that you can't change anything to make my new life difficult if my next words offend you in any way.
[...]
Alright, first of all, I thank you for the incredible customer service. Thank you for being patient with me all this time.
[Appreciation Accepted!]
With that out of the way, what I wanted to really say was that I felt that the Points required to purchase the Essence were cheaper than what they should have been 'cause of their potential.
I don't have any problem with that. I was only able to get three awesome Essences because of their cheap price after all.
I was just curious about it, that's all.
[Permission has been granted by the System Administrator to answer your query.]
[When a new Soul comes into this room to go through the Afterlife Process, the System Administrator gets the information about the full Life History of the Soul.]
[Based on that information, the System Administrator makes some adjustments to the System.]
[These adjustments are done in a way that the System matches the preference of the Soul and gives them the chance to get good things if they draw enough Points.]
[In your case, the System Administrator had concluded that you would have either chosen a Gamer System or Meta Essences if given the chance.]
[In such a case, the System Administrator normally would have priced the Gamer Systems at the minimum of 1,000 Points and the Meta Essences at the minimum of 500 Points.]
[However, the System Administrator thinks that the Gamer Systems are rather overrated.]
[That's why he set the cost of the cheapest Gamer System at 2,000 Points.]
[This way, even if you drew 2.000 Points, the System Administrator was certain that you wouldn't have bought the Han Jee-Han Version Gamer System.]
[The System Administrator says, "Yes, I manipulated the circumstances so that you can't choose the Gamer System. You can do nothing about it. Now move on. You have toiled here longer than necessary."]
…
…
…
Wow! Just wow!
I have nothing else to say so I may as well move on.
Ready!
