Chapter 15: 14: The Dazzling Ballroom
The ballroom was dazzling with beauty, with melodious music filling the air and the lively chatter, laughter, and gossip of the guests. I was determined to give my best tonight. I had practiced dancing tirelessly, just as Mother had instructed, even skipping training sessions for this moment. Haha!
Void began walking towards a girl who stood out with her striking appearance. Her snow-white strands of hair mingled with her black locks, and she wore an elegant light blue dress. "Hello there, miss! Mind if I..." Void began, bending down, fully confident and flirtatious, but was abruptly stopped by the girl's intense gaze.
"I'll refrain myself," she said coldly, her words sharp as a dagger, sending Void through a whirlwind of emotions.
"But I was just..." Void tried to continue, undeterred by the brutal rejection, but was cut off again.
"No, thanks," she repeated, making Void's emotions surge once more.
"Can you just let me finish?" Void, slightly annoyed, struggled to maintain his composure. "If you don't want to dance, let's have a chat! Maybe, if you feel better with me later, we can dance." The girl's expression softened slightly, though her cold demeanor remained.
"Who are you?" she asked, blushing and lowering her head to hide the redness spreading across her face. "And why are you trying so hard to be with me? I'm Aoi Takahashi from the Takahashi family. I'm not human; I'm a yokai, a Yuki-onna! Are you not scared of me?"
Void chuckled softly. "Scared of you being a yokai and a Yuki-onna? Nope!" He took her hand gently. "I'm Void Middletown. Even if others fear you or hate you, I won't. I'll always stay by your side as a friend, as a partner."
A smile played on Void's charming face as he continued, "Now, shall we enjoy this beautiful ball? Don't worry, I'm a good dancer!"
They began to dance, Aoi struggling to keep up in the unfamiliar surroundings. Void sighed and whispered, "Zone!" An invisible zone formed around them, chilling the air and helping Aoi feel at ease, allowing her to focus on her steps.
Soon, they were the only ones dancing, mesmerizing the audience with their grace. As the music ended, applause erupted from all around. It was the first time Aoi had been complimented, and she turned to thank Void, tears forming in her eyes.
"Thank you, Mr. Void," she said, a warm smile on her face. "Thanks for dancing with me." She wiped her tears, and they both bowed. Aoi's maid whispered something to her, and she left.
