Staying on the wall and using telekinesis to control the flying blades was too slow for Chen Ye, and once his mental strength was exhausted, it could become problematic. Seeing Lin Mei in danger gave him the perfect excuse to jump down and fight directly, while also saving her.
"General Lin, are you alright?" Chen Ye asked seriously, noticing the increasing number of Taotie around them. Lin Mei's presence was limiting his movements.
"Mr. Chen, why did you risk your life for me?" Lin Mei's voice trembled slightly.
Chen Ye, not catching her tone, replied, "No time for that. Let me get you up there first!"
"What about you?" Lin Mei asked instinctively.
"I'll manage. Once you're up, find a place to rest and don't come back down!"
With that, Chen Ye swung his sword, killing two approaching Taotie. Then he turned, wrapped his arm around Lin Mei's slim waist, and with his other hand, supported her by her hip.
"Up you go!"
Without pausing to appreciate the sensation, Chen Ye threw Lin Mei onto the wall. With his current strength, tossing a woman of around a hundred pounds was effortless.
With Lin Mei out of the way, Chen Ye could finally fight without restraint…
- On the Wall -
Back on the wall, Lin Mei was helped up by her subordinates.
"General, are you alright?"
Her subordinates cried with joy, never expecting her to return alive.
"I'm fine!" Lin Mei replied casually, immediately looking down at Chen Ye.
Seeing him surrounded by Taotie, Lin Mei's face was filled with worry.
"Mr. Chen, be careful! Come back up!" she called out.
"No worries. These beasts can't harm me!" came Chen Ye's calm response from below.
Lin Mei watched his powerful figure in awe, recalling how he had touched places he shouldn't have while saving her. Instead of anger, she felt an overwhelming shyness, and her cheeks turned red.
"What's happening to me?" she wondered, startled by her own emotions.
Just then, new orders came from the command tower. Lin Mei pulled herself together, took one last look at Chen Ye, and led her subordinates to fight off the Taotie attacking the wall.
- On the Battlefield -
If anyone observed Chen Ye closely, they would see that his hands and feet were completely blackened, the sign of his activated Armament Haki.
With no need to protect Lin Mei, Chen Ye unleashed his full power. The black sword, Shusui, danced in his hands like a deadly flower.
"Pff! Pff!"
Taotie after Taotie fell to Chen Ye's sword. Some managed to bite him, but as long as they didn't bite his body, it wasn't a problem. Chen Ye didn't even avoid attacks to his limbs, confident in his strength to counter any attempt to drag him away.
In mere moments, a mountain of Taotie corpses surrounded him.
Everyone watching from the wall was stunned, especially General Chen of the Eagle Army. Seeing Chen Ye's god-like prowess, he no longer harbored any resentment.
