Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Returning Favors
The next day, Jack arrived with Tank and a team of renovators at the house next to the agency. It was a four or five-story apartment building that had been put up for sale because it could no longer sustain operations.
Upon seeing it, Edward spent some money to purchase the building, intending to use it as dormitories for employees. After all, the agency couldn't rely solely on him to handle all the commissions if he ever wanted a break. Hiring more people was necessary, and with limited rooms at the agency, another building was needed for staff accommodation.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The sudden sound of walls being knocked down startled Tom and Jerry awake from their sleep. Being quite irritable upon waking, they immediately grabbed a large firework and aimed it at the workers who were busy with construction.
At that moment, Edward was also awakened by the noise. Rushing downstairs, he saw the two and shouted, "Stop!!!"
But he was a moment too late. However, his shout did reach the workers who turned to see a huge firework flying towards them. They couldn't even dodge in time before the firework unfortunately hit the foreman, Walter.
With a loud explosion, Walter's front side was completely blackened, but miraculously, he remained unharmed otherwise. Strangely, smoke started rising from his mouth, and then he collapsed.
Jack and Tank were stunned, but Edward quickly appeared, grabbed Walter, and said, "Keep working, he's fine."
Then, in front of everyone, he returned to the agency. It took Jack a while to regain his senses before he told the workers, "Continue."
"You two, didn't I tell you? You can't lay hands on ordinary people!" Edward pointed at Tom and Jerry's heads with his fingers.
But the two looked aggrieved and tried to explain themselves. Edward understood that being awakened by the noise of construction was very unpleasant, but he had no choice. He could only appease the two and finally allowed them to sleep in his well-soundproofed room as an exception.
Meanwhile, Edward left Walter on the sofa and went out to buy breakfast.
When Walter woke up, he looked around in confusion at first, then remembered how he ended up in this state. Just then, someone pushed open the door, and a man walked in. As soon as he entered, he shouted loudly, "Is Ed Lee here?"
"Are you looking for our boss? He seems to be out. Do you have any business to discuss?" Walter quickly stood up and asked.
"Who are you?"
"I'm an employee here."
"Tell your boss that it is time to repay the favor." With that, the man took out a business card, and tossed it casually onto the table, leaving Walter staring at it in astonishment.
By the time he processed it, the man had already disappeared.
Half an hour later, Edward returned with a pile of bags. Seeing Walter awake, he ordered, "Go wash your face and then come have breakfast."
"Boss, just now someone came and said you owed him a favor. He tossed a business card over there, and guess what? The paper card actually got stuck on the table. Damn, does he have superpowers or martial arts skills?"
Walter continued to be a chatterbox, but Edward ignored him because he seemed to know who the visitor was. He walked over, pulled the card off the table, and said, "No more eating. Come with me."
"Ah!" Walter froze, but Edward grabbed the back of his collar and pulled him away again.
Soon, they arrived at Wilson Tower and smoothly reached the top floor.
"Kingpin, you need my favor so soon?" Edward pushed open the door and went straight to the point.
But as soon as he entered, he was stunned. In the office were not only Kingpin and Bullseye, along with Kingpin's steward, but also a boy.
"Ed, I need you to help me rescue Vanessa," Kingpin said, sitting in his seat and looking at Edward.
"Vanessa, your hot wife? Tell me more. Who's the enemy?"
"The kingpin of the Golden Triangle, Khun Sa. He's kidnapped Vanessa, trying to get my client resources from me. I need you to rescue Vanessa and take care of my son, Richard Fisk, during this time."
"That's no problem, but Khun Sa..."
"Boss, I found it. Khun Sa is the biggest warlord and drug lord in the Golden Triangle. He controls about 80% of the opium fields there, supplying nearly 60% of the world's drugs. He's blacklisted in every country. He commands a force of 30,000 troops and possesses heavy weaponry. Most importantly, he has two body doubles who underwent plastic surgery and look exactly like him. No one knows which one is the real him."
Walter showed Edward the information on his phone as he explained.
"Where did you get this information?"
"FBI database," Walter said with a smile.
"Damn, son." Edward turned towards Kingpin, "Alright, sign your name here." Edward conjured a parchment scroll and inkpad out of thin air. Without hesitation, Kingpin signed his name and pressed his thumb into the inkpad. Unexpectedly, the small thorns hidden in the inkpad pierced his resilient skin, but he managed to press his thumb imprint nonetheless.
As eerie orange light emitted from the signature and thumbprint, Edward rolled up the parchment scroll and said, "Prepare a plane for me."
"Just one plane?"
"Yup, that's enough." Edward then turned towards the boy, "Come with me, kid."
The boy looked at Kingpin, who stood up and patted his head, saying, "Richard, go with him. He won't harm you."
The boy nodded obediently and walked over to Edward's side.
"I'll go settle him first. Send someone to pick me up in an hour."
"That's okay."
The three of them then returned to the agency. Upon opening the door, they found Tom and Jerry enjoying their breakfast heartily.
"Big brother, can I play with them?" Richard's eyes lit up when he saw Tom and Jerry.
"You can." Richard answered before turning toward two menaces, "Tom, Jerry, protect him. If anyone tries to harm him, you have my permission to do whatever it takes, got it?"
Tom and Jerry turned, their heads topped with police hats and dressed in uniforms, saluting Edward. Seeing their playful antics, Richard let loose his shoulders and chuckled. He reached out to grab Jerry, but Jerry dodged swiftly. If it were a girl, Jerry might have allowed it, but with a boy, he chose to evade.
Unable to catch Jerry, Richard redirected his attention. Tom, on the other hand, didn't mind and allowed Richard to pet him while continuing to eat breakfast.
"Walter, while I'm away, you'll handle the commissions. Let them know I'll be gone for a while."
"Understood, boss. You can count on me."
Edward nodded. Just then, the personnel sent by Kingpin arrived. Edward geared up and departed promptly.
(AH: The author was using the name, Misha but I didn't find any such information on the person. Misha sure exists but as a girl she isn't a drug lord. Instead, I changed him to Khun Sa since he actually existed and the information proved in fic aligned with his characteristics.)
