Chapter 91: Resolution

Wade surveyed the aftermath in the chaotic classroom, carefully avoiding areas still tainted by dung bombs. With a wave of his wand, he restored cockroaches and spiders to their normal sizes, watching as they scurried into cracks along the walls.

To his surprise, some students looked almost grateful.

Wade was momentarily speechless.

The classroom floor, walls, and the bodies of Malfoy and others were littered with remnants of dung bombs. Green smoke rose from shattered glass, and the ground hissed where corroded.

Slytherins lay petrified in various contorted poses: some weeping with tears and snot, others wide-eyed in terror, a few afflicted with inexplicable, painful scabies. Daphne, in a corner, fared slightly better—unharmed but visibly shaken, strands of spider silk clinging to her.

Wade couldn't help but wonder—was this it?

He had expected Malfoy to set a trap, emboldened after their last encounter. Instead, it seemed they relied solely on numbers to ambush him.

Reflecting on his own preparations—dozens of spells and rigorous practice in the Room of Requirement—he realized he had overprepared. The Room's wooden targets and occasional insects as training partners had been a bit extreme, especially when practicing spells like "Engorgio". Yet, merely greeting his opponents had rendered them incapacitated, crying out in pain as if from a car crash...

It appeared his meticulous planning had been excessive.

"Scourgify!"

Wade waved his wand, dissolving green liquid and dung bombs, leaving only a lingering stench. Employing a Levitation Charm, he retrieved everyone's wands before lifting the petrification spell.

The classroom erupted into cries and screams.

"Quiet!" Wade frowned.

Instantly, silence fell.

Approaching Malfoy, Wade saw the blond boy pale in fear, shuffling backward, stuttering, "Y-you, you... stay away—"

Pressing his shoulder with Malfoy's retrieved wand, Wade squatted, meeting his gaze sternly. "You know, if you were my enemy, I'd break your wand right now."

Malfoy froze, stuttering after a moment, "Y-you... can't..."

To a wizard, a wand was more than an instrument—it was an extension of oneself, vital for spellcasting. Some adult wizards couldn't perform even basic spells without their wand. Though replaceable, a wizard often bonded for life with their first wand, burying it upon their death.

It was a companion from cradle to grave.

Someone sobbed in the classroom.

"I won't, of course," Wade continued, observing Malfoy's relief. "Not because of your father or grandfather—it's irrelevant. We're classmates; we should treat each other with respect... right?"

Malfoy murmured, head bowed.

—Look at my swollen body, the stench clinging to me. Is this your idea of respect?

"—Yes," Malfoy muttered softly.

"Thank you. It's good you understand. I prefer focusing on my studies and avoiding trouble."

Wade intended to pat Malfoy's shoulder, but recalled the recent dung bombs, letting his hand fall.

Malfoy followed his movement, heart pounding, chest tightening painfully. Wade's words nearly moved him to tears.

—Is this the same Ravenclaw who seemed devilish? Who among them is Slytherin?

"And please, refrain from bullying my friends in the future. No more dirty tricks," Wade urged earnestly. "Otherwise, I'll be very—very—upset. As an individual, I'll take it upon myself to seek justice."

Malfoy stared blankly, no one daring to speak. Wade, feeling awkward talking to himself, set down the Slytherins' wands and turned to leave. But before exiting, he turned abruptly.

Malfoy, who had retrieved his wand, dropped it again with a snap. Nott hid behind Goyle, others startled.

"Don't be nervous. I'm just curious—" Wade paused, asking, "You won't go complaining to the professor, will you? About being scared by spiders and cockroaches? One person knowing a shameful secret versus the whole school knowing—there's quite a difference, don't you think?"

Faces froze.

Especially Malfoy, who had deliberated—report to the professor... tell Father... break your wand... get him expelled...

Yet Wade seemed to read his mind, smiling gently. "—You played a harmless prank with the Engorgement Charm. You won't be expelled. We have six more years to spend together! Misunderstandings are behind us; let's get along."

Stiffly, they nodded.

"Excellent. Consider it settled."

...

Soon after leaving the Potions classroom, Wade spotted Michael and Padma peering around a corner. They dashed out upon seeing him, hurrying over.

"Are you alright? We heard screams," Padma asked anxiously.

"I'm fine. No harm done," Wade reassured.

"Awesome! It's all sorted?" Michael asked eagerly. "Let's move fast—someone wanted to check, but we stopped them. Wonder if they'll summon Professor Snape."

The trio hastened down the corridor, a large eye peeking around the corner.

Wade glanced back, giving a thumbs-up with his right hand hidden behind his back.

The elf McGee grinned, flashing an "OK" sign with slender fingers, then vanished into the shadows, listening intently to Slytherin movements.
