 "Prepare yourself, because I am going to cut you down!"

A smirk brimmed in the man's expression, following my words. It was evident that he believed that he had me bested, but since I now understood how his strange power worked, I could begin exploiting its weaknesses.

First, he could only summon two of the portals at a time. This meant that I didn't have to worry about being surrounded by them. The only way I could find myself being caught in one of them was if I fell for his bait.

Second, whenever he summons a portal, there is a rumbling sound if it is used on the ground and when he uses it in the air, there is a subtle ripple that distorts the space from which it appears from. The latter was a lot harder to notice, but if I was actively looking for him to use it, then I was sure I could spot it.
