Chapter 11: Chapter 11 Paying Back Dues

Reaching Canada took as long as Michael had predicted and it really was a quick trip. Finding this Dr Emrys on the other seemed like it would take a bit longer than he originally thought.

Standing in the middle of the doctor's house he couldn't help but wonder if he even had the right address. The place looked barely lived in with how empty it was with even some dust piling up in some places.

"No this is definitely his house" Michael said upon finding a picture on the wall. "Maybe the neighbors know where he is?"

Leaving the house Michael went next door and waited for a couple moments after knocking. Luckily it seemed that this house was actually lived in because an older woman showed up not long after.

"Sorry young man but we don't need solar panels" Usually the ones knocking on her door were always trying to sell her something so this was her first assumption upon opening the door. But now that she got a good look at him she started to wonder if he really was a salesman. He didn't look it.

"Ah I'm not here to sell you anything miss I actually just came to ask about your neighbor Dr Killebrew have you seen him or know where he might be?"

"Oh, you're here for Dr Killebrew? Well, I don't know where he works but he does come back every Tuesday."

'Tuesday Huh well at least that's tomorrow and I don't need to wait too long'

"Thank you miss" With that the older woman gave a gentle nod before going back inside.

Now left outside Michael found himself having basically a whole day to wait for the doctor's arrival. 'Maybe I should just look for another scientist?' He wondered but it felt like a waste. He was already here and the guy's background honestly looked pretty impressive.

'Guess I'll just wait but man so far normal people in Marvel have been pretty nice'

"Wait, I still haven't paid the one old man back yet. Guess I do have something to do today after all." Michael smiled at himself for remembering this and took off into the air. Looting after a fight was important but so was paying one's dues.

Weasel was leaning back in his chair dangling himself with one leg as he wobbled back and forth. This was something only elementary students did that had too much energy but he honestly felt exactly the same at this moment. His workplace which usually had a bunch of loudmouth Mercs was currently empty leaving him with no one to talk to.

Creak

Hearing the door, Weasel fell forward to see the new arrival. He expected to see a sweaty merc like usual but it ended up not being that, not by a long shot.

"Helloooo beautiful, how can I help you" Weasel said while trying to slick his curly hair back but all it did was make his hair bounce forward again.

Standing at the entrance was a woman he could definitely say was in his top five beauty list. No, scratch that make it top two. She was tall with long legs that had toned lines clearly showing she worked out but it did not take away her beauty whatsoever. How could it be when she also happened to be in his top two curvy list? Then there was that hair… how could it be so red?

Hearing his flirtatious remark didn't put off the woman as she made her way over but even that wasn't simple. The way she moved just screamed elegance and charm as her hips swayed left and right. As if they were trying to hypnotize him like a snake charmer.

"Yes, I'm looking for a friend that happens to come by here a lot."

Weasel almost wanted to answer any question she had but he wasn't this buildings manager for nothing and as such he needed to follow his own rules. "We'll before I help you I'm going to need the password" Weasel requested while holding his sawed-off shotgun beneath the table.

"I don't have the password… is there any other way I can get it? Perhaps I can pay for the information?"

"Sorry but if you don't have a password then you can take one of the jobs and become a member" Weasel's reply didn't fly with the woman but she didn't let this show.

In fact, she'd been closely aware of his every move. The way he tried to act nonchalant and flirtatious while secretly preparing his gun.

Waiting in place she pretended to take a thinking position but in reality, she was listening to her comms waiting for further orders.

"Take it Natasha we had a feeling this would happen so there should be a job already there for you. Should be quick to handle as well" Natasha signed in appreciation, she enjoyed her job and what she did but making things unnecessarily long wasn't her style.

"Alright I'll handle a job"

"Great! You're in luck because we're pretty overbooked" With that said he relaxed slightly and pulled out a large folder before passing it to her.

Taking it in hand she didn't spend too much time on it before selecting what she wanted.

"Alright and as for a nickname or name is there anything you'd like to have written down?"

Natasha made a slight smile with her cheery red lips as she wrote something down. Once she was done she left as swiftly as she came.

"Widow Huh, well that's ominous" Weasel said to himself before placing her name on the Deadpool.

Ding Ding

"Welcome" An old gruff voice said in greeting to the new arrival. Looking up from his desk he was surprised to see that he recognized this young man and not only that but it looked like he was doing alright. Gone were the old clothes he had lent and now here he was dressed in a clean suit that looked brand new.

"It's good to see you again sir"

"Ah no it's good to see you and it looks like things have been going good. That's great!" The old man practically cheered before walking around the counter to tap him a couple of times on the shoulder.

"Well it's all thanks to your help sir you helped me big"

"Pfff I didn't give that much help kid and don't call me sir makes me feel old just call me Jim like everyone else around here."

'Good to see that the old man is still as chill as last time he looks to be doing alright as well'

"You look to be doing good by the way. What happened? You win the lottery?"

"Haha, I guess you can say something like that" Yup and every gang member in the city is his scratching ticket.

Jim looked slightly surprised to hear this. He'd been running a gas station for years selling lottery tickets and not once has he seen a winner. He was even beginning to think he'd never see it happen. Turns out he was proven wrong and he's happy he was because it looked like it went to someone who really needed it.

"That also happens to be why I'm here" Reaching into his pocket Michael pulled out an envelope and handed it over.

"What's this?" Michael didn't reply to his question so he opened it and almost fell when he saw what was inside. Cash… lots of cash.

"Son, I don't need this. Keep it for yourself" With quick movements he quickly placed the money back in Michael's hands.

"But-"

"No buts I didn't help to have favors returned I did it because it's the right thing to do."

Michael awkwardly sat in place for a while. This was not what he expected when he brought the money. If it was him back in his old world or any family member he had then they would have been overjoyed.

"Look if you really want to repay me that badly then do what I did and help the next person you see. It doesn't have to be something huge but can even be something as simple as placing a warm coat on someone who needs it"

Michael held the envelope with some surprise. He knew this old man was kind but to have your heart beat not change once while saying that… He really didn't want the money and just wanted him to be better.

'Huh wait a second, is this guy supposed to be like my uncle Ben?' Feeling slightly wary he couldn't help but find this situation suspicious and began checking around but found nothing odd. 'Maybe I'm just paranoid'

"Alright I'll do that then"

"Great! Now how about I bring out my lasagna, made it from scratch I tell you!" Saying that he reached into his lunch box and brought out some food.

Michael looked at it and thought why not he had some time to kill anyway. After this, the two sat down and ate for a while. Unsurprisingly the store didn't receive many customers due to its quiet location but this made things better for the two.

It wasn't until Michael saw the sun setting that he felt he might have overstayed his welcome.

"It's already getting late I should get going"

"Will you be alright? I can call you a cab if you'd like"

"Nah it's alright I have my own way back"

"Very well but watch the roads I swear no one knows how to drive nowadays" The two laughed together at this before Michael walked out.

"Help someone huh… Well, I did free all those people who were going to get human trafficked so that counts. But I guess I could do more anyways it's not like it hurts to help now and then"

Now Michael didn't plan on becoming like those goody two-shoes heroes who can't sleep and have no social life because they sacrifice everything to save lives. However, this doesn't mean he'll just ignore it. If he sees something going on he'll take care of it and unlike Spider-Man he'll finish it.

"Well that's enough self monologuing for today and now that I think about it I don't even know when that Dr is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Sigh, I'll just sleep on his roof or something to wait." Floating up into the air Michael reached a suitable distance from the town and flew at high speeds releasing a sonic boom.

Somewhere else far underground was a large lab housing multiple scientists who were hard at work. Heading this team is Wilfred who had previously created the super soldier serum that they have now dubbed as Compound V.

"Damnit! Another failure." Shouted Wilhelm as he threw some papers on the floor.

"Why are all other creations so inferior" He complained but inside he knew why in fact everyone present knew why.

All his work and his lab were blown away with hardly anything left. He was basically working off memory and whatever scraps he salvaged. The only thing that has really helped him so far were the bodies of the previous test subjects as they had traces of compound V still in their system but even that was tedious.

Removing something that had become such an intricate part of the human body is harder than it seems. Especially when that body is dead. Possibly if he had a live sample then it might be a greater success but so far he's only been capable of making watered-down variations.

"Well, it looks like Pierce was right when he said your work was experiencing some complications," An older man said while walking into the lab.

"Malick…" Wilhelm said as he looked at one of the higher members of Hydra. A man who not only ruled in the shadows but even in the light as a member of the World Security Council.

"So it seems this new serum can only do this much" Saying this he looked towards Wilhelm's three test subjects who each showed differing abilities.

One was a young woman designated subject 123 who was able to increase the length of her hair while also increasing its density. The next was a man designated 138 who had long oddly shaped ears that allowed him to hear with echolocation. Last was their best subject so far, Subject 187 was a man who was stronger, faster, and had even proved to be bulletproof to high caliber rounds.

These were all impressive respectably but none compared to their first Subject 101. No, in comparison they were like rags. The only one worth mentioning was Subject 187 as he surpassed even Captain America in some ways but that wasn't enough.

"Don't worry we see you are having results. They may not compare with subject 101 but they are definitely useful, though it's a shame that 97% die when administered the serum."

"Sigh… I could fix those percentages and increase the abilities if I had the original. If I had him"

"We're working on it but in the meantime how about passing these three for training? Who knows they may succeed where we failed"

Wilhelm full-heartedly doubted this but compared to regular soldiers they did have better chances and on-field testing would help him further his research.

"Alright, who should I pass them to?

"How about Brock Rumlow? His record is impressive. If anyone were to get them ready it'd be him."

"Hmm sounds fine with me I'll have it done." Gideon Malik nodded in response happy with the outcome "Hail Hydra"
