Chapter 25: Unimaginable pain

After checking up on Ralph's mother, I went to play fairy with Sarah. Even though her mother was in a critical state, she still managed to remain jovial. I wore a tiara and she gave me a magic wand made out of wood.

"I'm sowwy, I don't have extra wings," she said.

"It's fine, wear the wings. You're the real fairy. I'll be your helper," I said while patting her head.

We played together for almost an hour before I had to leave. I thanked them for the invite and the warm welcome.

"Will you come play again?" Sarah asked with a sad face.

"Yes, I will come soon," I replied.

As soon as I exited the house, I was determined to help Ralph's family. I was going to talk to Quincy about it. My mind was heavy as I walked back to our estate. Ralph had to shoulder such a heavy responsibility. The streets were nearly empty and droplets of rain began falling. The dirt paths were soon soaked and my shoes became muddy.

When I returned home, I thought that the three orcs would be in the living room, but they were nowhere to be seen. I assumed that they must have already gone to bed. I went up the stairs and made my way to Quincy's room. This was urgent and I could not wait until morning to discuss with him. I knocked on the door as hard as I could, but I did not get a response. Even so, I opened the door. Quincy was sleeping like a baby. I placed my hand on his shoulder and began shaking him. He was startled awake and bolted upright. His eyes were tired and in his groggy state, he began swearing like there was no tomorrow. After completely waking up, he was back to his normal self.

"Why did you wake me up?" he asked.

"I have a favor to ask. Can you ask your brother to treat someone?" I asked.

"I'll work as a hunter or guard and pay the money back in full. Can you please help me," I added.

"Hold on for a moment. Who is sick?" he asked.

"When I visited the young orc today, I found out that his mother is severely ill and will soon pass away. The reason that he's working in a restaurant is to save enough money to bring her to a doctor in the city center. Seeing his family cry really tugged at my heartstrings," I said.

"Please help me with the money. I'll work immediately," I added.

He burst out laughing and it seemed like I had just told him the funniest joke that he had ever heard. I thought that he was mocking me, so I clenched my fist. Quincy noticed the change in my demeanor and stopped laughing.

"Look at you getting mad. You idiot, I am not mocking you," he said.

"What do you mean?" I asked

"The reason why I was laughing at you was not because of the request. It was because you thought that you had to pay me back by working," he said.

"Luke, get this into your thick skull. We are a family now. What kind of older brother will refuse his sibling's request? What do you mean pay back? The three of us do not want you to pay for anything. We'll bring her to my brother tomorrow after your training," he added.

I leaped into Quincy's arms and hugged him as tightly as I could.

"Thank you so much," I said.

We talked a bit about how the dinner went and afterwards, I left his quarters for him to rest. Now that that issue had been taken care of, I went to my room to tackle the other problem. I still had to ingest the pill that I received from the chieftain.

I sat cross-legged on the wooden floor and before beginning, I had to get some advice.

"Diablo, are you sleeping?" I asked.

"You idiot, do you think that swords sleep?" he replied.

"I did not even know that swords could talk, how was was I supposed to know their sleep schedule," I jokingly said.

"What do you think will happen when I take the pill?" I asked.

"Well you won't die," he replied.

"Thanks for the reassurance," I said.

"Best of luck to you Luke," he said.

I unsealed the jar and grabbed the pill with my fingers. The pungent smell was still as unbearable. I opened my mouth and placed the pill on my tongue before swallowing it. As expected, the taste was just as atrocious as the scent, harbinger of doom. A warm feeling slowly grew in my stomach.

The pill began disintegrating in my belly releasing a large amount of energy. The heat spread throughout my body as the energy was trying to escape. I did my best and tried to keep everything withing the confines of my body. Cracking noises echoed throughout the room as I let out a blood-curdling scream. All over my body, bones were shattering and I felt my organs moving around in my abdomen.

My spine was twisting in unnatural positions and I felt blood rushing around my body like jet sprays. Blood oozed out of my orifices as my skin began tearing in countless places. My mind went numb and I could not think of anything. Veins were bursting and my organs felt like they were exploding. I grabbed my chest as hard as I could. My entire being was shaking to its core. I gritted my teeth and tried my best to bear with the pain, but this was excruciating. My eyes were rolled back so far that they were fully white.

My body was under such immense pressure and felt like it was being pulled to the point of being torn apart. My screams reverberated throughout the house and woke the three orcs up. It seemed like the grim reaper's scythe was grazing my neck. The pain suddenly subsided and I fainted.
