Chapter 7: The Conditions of the Shadow Tower

A group of soldiers who looked like refugees emerged from the mountain forest, all covered in dirty snow and mud between their boots.

Haldor, lying behind a group of warriors in formation, couldn't help but feel his eyelids twitch. As he emerged from the forest, the scene before him left him astonished.

At his feet was the crest of the mountain forest, where the dense trees had previously blocked his view for several hours along the path.

Ahead of them, at a height of fifty or sixty meters, appeared a plain, or rather, a snowy field.

The vast white world filled his eyes, with dozens of houses scattered sporadically across the thousands of square meters of snowy field.

Further ahead, there was a mountain resembling a rhinoceros horn, probably two to three hundred meters tall. From Haldor's perspective, the angle between it and the ground was about forty or fifty degrees, extending into the distance and even connecting with the extreme cold that no human had dared to touch for a long time.

The tip of the rhinoceros horn pierced into the extremely cold northern wind and snow, making Haldor almost feel as if there was an enormous ancient beast standing on the ground, staring at him.

But as if testing every law of architecture, on that hill stood a massive tower piercing the clouds.

Who could be so strong and resilient as to create such a tower with such great skill? No human could have built that tower to withstand the cold winds easily, not in such a deadly environment. The only possible answer would be the giants; they must have created this tower. Unless this tower was thousands of years old, long before the extreme cold reached this place,.

Everything in sight was covered in dense snow, and mortals could only vaguely see its outline. Even so, the view's pressure caused the twenty warriors in formation to breathe deeply.

"This is the territory granted by his father."

Although the old butler seemed about to die, when he saw they had arrived at the territory, it seemed as if a shot of strength entered his body.

The physiques of common men in the north are naturally strong, which is why the most powerful warriors in the world are born here, and it is precisely why no territory wishes to face the northern wolves.

An army of five thousand soldiers in the north can easily crush one of fifteen thousand men from the south; none have the ferocity of the northern warriors, regardless of their training.

Haldor also had an incredible physique for his age, clearly due to his training, which was common among children of his age.

As to whether this place could be a growth point for him and his forces, he still needed to see if his plans could be carried out here. Haldor couldn't help but feel curious; he wanted to know if this challenge could be overcome by someone like him.

The cold can be harnessed; no matter how ugly the weather is, he firmly believes that in summer he can do outdoor things so that in winter he can work on indoor things.

Without the obstruction of mountains and forests, the incoming winter cold wind in the north made Haldor's group's teeth chatter, and the snow seeping through their clothes made them shiver occasionally.

"It's much colder here..." Even the old butler, who was a former formal warrior, couldn't help but shrink his body, but when he looked at the calm Haldor, his gaze filled with surprise.

Of course, sorcerers have methods that make them much more resistant to many things, and now, with two great sorcerers in this place, they could alleviate the cold with their techniques.

"This will be our new beginning, gentlemen. I will teach you many more things than you can now comprehend, and surely, by my side, you will see things you have never seen before." Haldor had his plans, and one of them would be to have polar bears; only then would his power and authority be through the roof.

"Food will be a problem..." Baba Voss didn't know how Haldor would solve that problem.

After hearing Baba Voss's words, Haldor, who was so passive that he forgot his fatigue, also fell silent.

As the lord of this place, of course, his strength should not be so small, and the houses should not be in such bad condition. Now that he has this place, he will start implementing his architectural ideas and, above all, begin to increase his forces to match his personal interests.

He didn't have as many soldiers as one might imagine; no one would follow a child, and he would hardly get the things he had in mind if he didn't have authority. If he could obtain the strength of the polar bears, then that would mean many would believe in him, as no one has ever achieved that feat.

Although his father gave him hundreds of war horses and carriages containing supplies for the territory's development, which should be worth a lot of money, it wasn't enough.

The slaves had not yet arrived; most of the people here were undisciplined, and this would only give Haldor more work to maintain his position.

His convoy, accompanied by criminals and people wanting to start a new life, got lost along the way.

That's why, when Haldor finally arrived here, he had no more than twenty strong warriors, not clearly mentioning the sorcerers like Lucian and Ravyn, who had maintained silence even now.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Haldor was completely submerged in the snow. The white and cold snow was no longer as beautiful as before. The biting cold made many people's consciousness blurrier.

And ahead, in this unknown village, there were already a dozen men looking at him with pitchforks and other 'weapons.'

Haldor took a deep breath and looked at the group of villagers in front of him, who were obviously malnourished. His voice was childish but naturally dignified: "I am Haldor, the lord of the Shadow Tower territory."

In this era, there is absolutely no chance of impersonation. As aristocrats of the ruling class, everyone knows each other.

After hearing Haldor's words, the group of villagers in front immediately dropped everything in their hands and then kneeled before Haldor with total respect in their eyes.

"My lord, you are finally here."

"We have been waiting for you; the legends say that our new ruler, a prince, will ensure we never go hungry again."

"The alpha of the snow has arrived."

"The prince the seer spoke of."

Baba Voss looked around, and more people came out of their houses, all kneeling before Haldor with such devotion as if they were in front of a god.

"These people..."

Lucian, the man Haldor's father had sent, murmured: "These people have only been able to survive in this place through faith, an idealized belief in dreams imparted by others."

"Dangerous; I did not expect this." Haldor knew this was very dangerous; if he couldn't show the signs these people expected of him, many problems could arise along the way. Undoubtedly, whoever left these fairy tales to these people knew that somehow they would happen.

No, now that he recalls, he wasn't here for a fairy tale.

A person approached the past Haldor, the same person who told him about the polar bears and their army, the same person who said the relic his mother left him was of utmost importance to convince the celestial polar bear race to follow him along with their great army.

Everything was planned; everything was connected by threads.

Of course, the purpose of this person telling him all this now is unknown. However, it is clear that this person never considered that Haldor would have a dragon at his disposal and that his father knew all this in advance.

It is clear that Haldor's father now considers him his potential descendant and someone who could reach a level he never did.

His memories now play against him instead of benefiting him; without a doubt, he had to be sure that his plans did not benefit third parties, or he would fall into the hands of those trying to control his future.

It is true he had reached this place with the help of his recovered memories in this life, but he would not be so careless as to trust that this is a path imparted by gods from who knows where. If he is in this place, it is not due to a known god; coincidence can sometimes be considered divine.

One only needs to be in the right place, at the right time, and on the right day for their life to change completely.
