Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Demise of the Barbarian Bear Pirates
After dispatching the last pirate underling, Sharlo's previously blood-red eyes cleared, regaining their usual luster. The overwhelming presence of Conqueror's Haki also dissipated.
Feeling the pressure lift, Alex Jesse stood up, his eyes filled with fear as he looked at Sharlo.
"Who... who are you?" Alex Jesse asked, his voice trembling.
With a faint smile, Sharlo responded, "I am Rockefeller Sharlo."
Sharlo felt an overwhelming sense of relief. The oppressive feelings he had been harboring were finally released, leaving him in high spirits. Facing the captain of the pirate crew, he raised his sword.
"You will be the first step in my journey to the sea," Sharlo said calmly, his eyes brimming with confidence.
"Damn you, brat! Don't talk big! I'll make you pay for my crew's lives!" Alex Jesse roared, charging at Sharlo with his great sword.
Sharlo kept a keen eye on the pirate captain.
Clang!
The sound of metal clashing echoed as Sharlo effortlessly parried Alex Jesse's full-force attack with one hand. With a slight exertion, he knocked Jesse's sword aside and swiftly delivered a slash across his chest, leaving a long wound.
"Argh!" Alex Jesse screamed as he was sent flying, blood soaking his clothes.
Standing up with a fierce look, Alex Jesse threw his sword aside. Just as Sharlo thought he was surrendering, Jesse roared, "You forced me to do this!"
Jesse's body began to swell and transform dramatically.
"Roar!" Alex Jesse, now a giant black bear, growled at Sharlo.
"A Devil Fruit user?" Sharlo was surprised, realizing that Jesse had consumed a Zoan-type Devil Fruit.
"Yes, I am the captain of the Barbarian Bear Pirates, Alex Jesse!" the massive black bear bellowed, his chest wound healing rapidly.
Sharlo clicked his tongue in amazement. "No wonder Zoan types are known for their recovery abilities. But do you think a mere Devil Fruit can help you defeat me?"
Ignoring Jesse's bravado, Sharlo dashed forward in a blur, his sword aimed at Jesse's neck. The bear met the attack with his giant paws, barely breaking a sweat as he blocked Sharlo's blade.
"Roar!" Jesse, seeing Sharlo struggle to penetrate his defense, felt a surge of confidence. He charged at Sharlo, who quickly raised his sword in defense.
Crash!
Sharlo was pushed back several steps, his sword shattering from the impact.
Alex Jesse laughed maniacally. "Without your sword, how will you survive now, brat?"
Sharlo glanced at the broken hilt, shrugged, and tossed it aside. Cracking his knuckles, he said, "Guess it's time for a brawl."
Leaping forward, Sharlo closed the distance in an instant and delivered a powerful punch to Jesse's jaw, sending the bear crashing into some nearby crates.
Steam rose from Sharlo's body as he prepared for another assault. Without giving Jesse a moment to recover, he lunged again, landing a fierce uppercut that sent the bear flying into the air.
Blood and a chunk of Jesse's tongue spewed from his mouth. As Jesse flew through the air, Sharlo leapt above him and brought his leg down in a powerful kick, driving Jesse into the sea below.
As a Devil Fruit user, the ocean was Jesse's greatest weakness. The impact reverted Jesse back to his human form. Sharlo dove in after him, pulling the unconscious Jesse from the water.
Grabbing a nearby long sword, Sharlo beheaded Jesse and hung his head on a nearby flagpole.
The battle ended swiftly, but the scene was chaotic. Bodies of both the dead and those knocked unconscious by Sharlo's Conqueror's Haki littered the crowded port. Sharlo paid no attention to when they might wake up.
After hanging Jesse's head, Sharlo headed toward the three docked pirate ships, hoping to find something valuable. An exceptional Devil Fruit would be a significant find, potentially worth billions.
However, his hopes were dashed. After thoroughly searching the ships, he found only a paltry sum of 10 million Berries and about seventy enslaved people in the hold.
Surprised that his Conqueror's Haki hadn't reached them, Sharlo reasoned it was because he had just awakened it. The people in the hold seemed incredibly weak, likely from days without food.
Entering the hold, Sharlo saw the ragged, chained slaves. "Is anyone alive?" he called out.
A few heads turned toward the entrance, where Sharlo stood covered in blood, creating an eerie scene. Fearful, the slaves shrank back.
Sharlo scanned the room. Seeing no one respond, he felt a bit annoyed and turned to leave.
"W-wait, sir!" a panicked female voice called out.
Sharlo turned to the source of the voice, his eyes finding the girl in the dim light. He waited silently for her to speak.
