"Huff! Huff!"
"Three thousand two hundred twenty-one!"
"Three thousand two hundred twenty-two!"
By the coast, a brawny young man was lifting a dumbbell more than ten times his size, swinging it with ease. With each swing, the sound of the wind followed, creating a loud whooshing noise. This young man had been at it for more than half a day, sweat streaming down his well-defined muscles onto the ground. Standing at 1.95 meters tall with a muscular build, it was hard to believe he was only eighteen years old.
"Four thousand!"
Bang!
When the count reached five thousand, his arms could no longer sustain the weight, and he threw the dumbbell to the ground.
"Huff! Exhausted!"
The young man plopped onto the ground, gasping for air. His arm muscles were trembling slightly.
"Three hundred more swings than yesterday!"
Clenching his fists, the young man felt invigorated. It was no ordinary feat to effortlessly swing a dumbbell over ten times his size five thousand times. This was something beyond an ordinary person's capability.
Indeed, the young man had traversed into a world where strength reigned supreme, a world he was very familiar with: the world of the "One Piece" anime he had watched since childhood. To his surprise, he had traveled to the world of "One Piece." However, he seemed to have arrived early, as he discovered when he saw the Rocks Pirates in a newspaper at the age of thirteen. The current timeline was Sea Circle Calendar 1480, more than forty years before Luffy sets sail.
Upon learning this, Sharlo was utterly stunned. Anyone who has watched "One Piece" knows that this world is dangerous and could be invaded by pirates at any moment. Although there were fewer pirates at this time compared to later years, it was still a constant threat. What was even more alarming was that he found himself in the New World, the latter half of the Grand Line. This realization filled Sharlo with a sense of impending danger.
Having just traversed into the body of a thirteen-year-old boy, Sharlo was initially panicked. But knowing he was in the New World only heightened his sense of crisis. After a brief moment of panic, Sharlo calmed down. In his previous life, he had been a mercenary, so despite the bizarre circumstances, he forced himself to accept this new reality.
Why did he become a mercenary? That's a bit of a strange story. In his previous life, he heard that being a mercenary in the Middle East during summer vacations could earn a lot of money. Acting on a whim and through a friend's introduction, he inexplicably joined a mercenary team, beginning his mercenary career. The saying goes, "If you walk by the river often enough, your shoes will get wet." During a skirmish with some locals, an unexpected grenade appeared beside him. Before Sharlo could react, it exploded, and he felt his body being torn apart before losing consciousness. When he woke up, he found himself in this new world.
The original owner of his body was unlucky as well. At thirteen, he was fishing by the sea when a wave swept him into the ocean, slamming him against a rock and knocking him unconscious. Thus, Sharlo took over his body.
The island he found himself on was tiny, with a population of just over a thousand and only one small town. It was located in the early part of the New World, and while there weren't many pirates, the nearby Marine G-8 Branch provided some sense of security to the thirteen-year-old Sharlo. Understanding his surroundings, Sharlo began to recall his memories of watching "One Piece" in his previous life. To his surprise, he remembered the details clearly, despite not having much time to watch the series during his mercenary days. This clarity excited him, as these memories could help him survive until the end of the story.
However, Sharlo had no intention of merely surviving. He wanted adventure and to leave his mark in this world. Settling for a mundane life was not in his nature. In this life, he was named Rockefeller Sharlo, born in Sea Circle Calendar 1463. After realizing he was in the world of "One Piece," Sharlo began a planned training regimen.
Having watched "One Piece," Sharlo knew this world was exceedingly dangerous, especially with the onset of the Great Pirate Era when pirates roamed the seas like ants. He didn't want to die an unremarkable death. To live a fulfilling life, Sharlo began his training.
He understood the training systems in "One Piece": swordsmanship, physical strength, the three types of Haki, Devil Fruits, and marksmanship—all of which could make a person powerful. As a former mercenary, he initially considered marksmanship, but without access to guns and only flintlocks in this world, he dismissed the idea. He then considered other methods.
Devil Fruits? Sharlo discarded the idea immediately. The original owner hadn't left him any Devil Fruits, so that option was out.
Three types of Haki? At thirteen, his body wasn't ready for Armament Haki, although Observation Haki seemed feasible. As for Conqueror's Haki, a one-in-a-million trait, he had no idea if he had the aptitude for it. With those options eliminated, he focused on swordsmanship and physical training, areas he had some understanding of and decided to try.
With a goal in mind, Sharlo devised a plan. His first objective was physical training, inspired by Zoro from the anime. He began with lower body explosive training by jumping with dumbbells and upper body strength by swinging dumbbells. Additionally, he incorporated his mercenary training methods into his regimen. For swordsmanship, he figured practice would make perfect and believed he could master it over time.
Drawing inspiration from Zoro gave Sharlo immense determination. He refused to believe he, a transmigrator, would fare any worse. With these thoughts in mind, Sharlo began his training after a brief rest to recover from his injuries, which healed surprisingly quickly. Within two days, he was back on his feet, full of energy, despite having broken several bones. After a few hearty meals, he miraculously recovered, realizing his new body was extraordinary.
Moreover, he discovered the meat he was eating came from the Sea King that bit off Shanks' arm at the beginning of the series. This gave Sharlo an idea for becoming stronger: eating.
