In his understanding Underground Holy Spring was a pure source of energy and was probably a condensed form of Soul essences, this was why even humans could absorb it's power to improve their cultivation.
The villages around Ancient Capital possessed Water of Kun which was a similar item. Since most of the villages had been destroyed and many the natives dead these resources were left behind and the military was probably none the wiser.
The surviving villagers would not tell their secrets to the magic association even if they had relocated to Ancient Capital after the disaster, since it was a mission they carried for millennia.
After Zhan Kong became the Undead emperor, the undead were even more of a obedient force and wouldn't cause him any grief and he could easily, travel between these villages collecting Water of Kun and improving the Wooden Clapper's level.
In the long run, he could even achieve Super level before Mo Fan and Mu Bai if he was prudent. He also had plans of hunting a few monsters here and there if he had time.

In a week Lin Feng had gone around the various villages and collected the Water of Kun. His Wooden Clapper had reached the peak of the Galaxy level and every meditation session brought him imaginable benefits.
But he didn't find time to kill monsters and get soul essences since most of these villages were too far apart and their wells were quite run down after seven months. Even though he rented a demon beast for travel, he only just made it back before his holidays were over.
