Chapter 13: Chapter 13 - Evil Pieces
Rebel devils were devils that betrayed their masters. These devils were hunted by other devils, as well as angels and fallen angels.
A rebel devil was in Rias Gremory's territory, so it was her and her servants' job to eliminate it.
That night, we went to a building outside of town. We're fully staffed. Rias, Akeno, Kiba, Koneko and myself. The sole purpose of the mission was to eliminate this rebellious devil that was luring humans to feed on them.
"Leo, this will be a good opportunity to see you in battle," Rias said.
"I don't have much experience in combat, but I hope I won't disappoint you," I replied.
Yes, I came from a post-apocalyptic world where animals were literally turned into monsters by the radiation from the nuclear bombs that devastated every nation, but that didn't mean I knew how to fight.
Everything I knew about combat came from the fighting techniques and martial arts I learned at the Academy of Compulsory Education.
Rias laughed briefly at the way I answered. "I like your personality, determined Leo."
Akeno then began to explain the characteristics of devil servants to change the subject.
"devils who have masters gain unique characteristics when they become servants. It would probably be easier to tell the story about devils, but we don't have much time and..."
Kiba always wanted to tell this story, so he interrupted Akeno.
"Excuse me, Akeno, but I know a shorter version. Leo, a long time ago, there was a war between devils, fallen angels and God with its angels. All three parties lost troops, and the war ended without a winner. The great noble devils lost most of their subordinates in the war and were unable to raise new armies. Most of the pureblood devils died in the war. Many problems arose for the devils, fallen angels, and God. We devils decided to use a system to form and specialize small groups of soldiers called [Evil Pieces]."
"Evil Pieces?"
"It's simple." Rias said. "Noble devils use the rules of chess to coordinate their devil soldiers. The master, a devil like me, is determined as the [King] and creates five special pieces: [Queen], [Knight], [Rook], [Bishop], and [Pawn] to form a small army. This system has become popular among noble devils."
"Popular? What do you mean?"
"The devils started competing with each other. For example, 'My knight is stronger' or 'My rook is stronger! High-ranking devils started playing a game of chess with their devil minions, called 'ranking games'. There's a tournament for it. The strength of their [Pieces] affects the social status of the devils and their titles of nobility. Recently, [Gather Pieces] has become popular, where talented humans are transformed into devils."
Basically, strong devils could become magnificent devils this way.
"Let me guess, Rias, if you're the king, the queen must be Akeno," I said, finally looking at Akeno again.
Akeno smiled with the corner of her mouth.
"Exactly." Rias replied. "By the way, my knight is Yuto and my rook is Koneko."
"Does that mean I'm a bishop?" I asked, pointing at myself. I already knew that I wasn't, but I had to keep up appearances.
"Wait a second."
Rias stopped moving before answering me, and I could also feel the tremors in my body due to the presence of an enemy and his killer instinct.
"I feel something disgusting. But also something delicious. Is it sweet? Is it sour?" Suddenly, a deep voice rang through the place.
Rias looked into a patch of darkness in the house. "Vaizor Rebel devil, I thought you'd never show up. We're here to eliminate you!" shouted Rias.
"Eakatateakatateakatateakatateakatateakatat." A strange, distorted laugh erupted, and then the rebel devil Vaizor stepped out of the dark corridor Rias was watching.
Vaizor was a female-looking devil with huge breasts and gigantic claws instead of fingernails. At the sight of those breasts, I was disgusted, remembering that they could throw acid, and I ran towards the devil.
"Wait, Leo!" Rias yelled.
I don't even know why I was the first to run, but as I ran, I realized how much faster I was than usual.
"Eakatateakatat! Who is this weak little devil?!"
Even after switching systems, I didn't have many combat abilities. However, I had more attributes than ever before, and even Boosted Gear, which doubled them for a few seconds, didn't scare me.
'Please, Boosted Gear! Obey my call this time! Please!'
"{Boost!}" The voice of the dragon Ddraig echoed in my mind, and my legs immediately began to move even faster as my entire body became lighter.
One of Vaizor's claws came at me with frightening speed as I came dangerously close. I rolled to the side, and her claws sliced through the ground I had just stood on.
Even with my doubled stats, I barely dodged it! I need more speed!
"{Boost!}" Again, Ddraig boosted my strength.
At that moment, my peripheral vision caught a flash of lightning as Akeno invoked her magic. Lightning came down from clouds that appeared under the ceiling and struck Vaizor.
Kiba also appeared beside me, holding his white sword. "Let's go, Leo. Coordinated attack!"
We were a team. One had to cover the other.
Kiba and I attacked Vaizor together, and Kiba was the first to attack. He unleashed a series of slashes that chopped off three of Vaizor's fingers, giving me a perfect opportunity.
"Let's finish this quickly!" I shouted.
"{Boost!}"
My left hand, enveloped in the emerald-green energy of the Boosted Gear, struck Vaizor directly in the chest with a powerful blow. The impact was devastating, and a flash of energy lit up the entire hall of the mansion.
Vaizor was thrown backward and hit the wall with a loud thud.
The rebellious devil struggled to her feet with an angry expression on her face. "You... you will pay for this, boy!"
"Not so fast." Rias, with her majestic presence, stretched her arm forward. "Koneko!"
The small, sweet, and serious-looking girl picked up one of the mansion's pillars as if it were nothing and threw it at Vaizor, ending any chance the rebel devil had to react.
As Vaizor muttered in pain with the pieces of the pillar on her, Rias walked over to her and held out her right hand.
"Any last words?"
"That boy... who..."
"You mean Leo? He's my precious pawn. Now get lost."
A gigantic mass of devilic power with a crimson glow shot out of Ria's palm. This attack completely enveloped the monster's body in an instant. The mass of pure devilic power devoured Vaizor's body in an instant.

[You obtained 5 distributable attribute points.]
[You and your companions have completed an extermination mission. Your next action will have a chance to raise up to one heart with them].
"Farmers, right? I like that." I said, smiling and putting my hand to the back of my head. "This way, I'll always be able to go to the front to protect you!"

'Wait, wait! How can I lose Hearts!? I don't want to have hearts with Kiba!!!' I thought.
