Chapter 33: The More Detailed Plan

Their room was much bigger than Locus' room back at the inn. There were two bathrooms, two bedrooms, and a living room.

"Isn't this a bit excessive?"

"You mean because we spent such a short time in our rooms when we were staying in Unipolar City?"

"Mhm."

"After the Mastermind Guild notices you, they'll probably be the ones who attack you. This means that you might have to kill some time."

"I see."

"Also, this is a big city. You can't be too picky."

"So exactly how much will this cost us?"

"Four gold per night."

"Excuse me?"

"That's two gold per person. I'll cover half of your expenses, so you have to pay one gold per night."

Even with this kind of discount, the hotel was still more expensive than the inn.

"Don't worry. We'll make enough money."

"Depending on what other things we do, I'll have to earn at least 15 gold per week. How am I supposed to do that?"

"I thought we were planning on robbing the Mastermind Guild? If we're lucky with our targets, we'll make more than 100 gold per coup."

Locus was shocked.

"The Mastermind Guild is the biggest in the world. What did you expect?"

"Then we shouldn't wait for too long until we attack. I don't have that much gold."

"Sure thing. If you want to, we can start tomorrow."

"That early? Would that be wise?"

"It's not like we're robbing the headquarters. We'll start with an easy target, which won't be of much importance. When we can pay our bills, we can go and work on achieving our goal."

"And what's this 'easy target' supposed to be?"

"Hmm... Maybe a carriage? There are a lot of deliveries between cities. The problem is that those carriages usually carry goods, which we'd have to sell."

"So what?"

"You fool. Maybe we have to go back to training. When you take a tiger's food and make him angry, you don't come back a few seconds later and try to feed him."

Locus didn't really care about Genken's metaphors. It was enough for Locus to know that robbing such a carriage would be a bad move.

"Then what will we do instead?"

"The guild is working with large sums of money. Some branches use the money itself, like banks or administration. If we were to rob one of those carriages, we'd be rich."

"But won't that make the guild notice us?"

"They are handling these measures based on losses. If we just take one box, the guild won't care that much."

"And where do we find such a carriage?"

"That's the thing: The big sums are guarded pretty well. We should start with something easier."

Genken thought for a few seconds.

"If I recall correctly, there are single carriages that deliver money to smaller facilities throughout the guild to increase their liquidity every Monday morning."

That was just one day later.

"Great! So we just wait for one of them and go get some money."

Genken nodded.

"Until then, we could go for a walk through the city."

"And where would you want to take me?"

"We could go pay a visit to the guild and then eat something."

"Could I first put my stuff in the closet?"

"Of course. Take your time. Oh, and which room do you want?"

There were two bedrooms, each equipped with their own bathroom and a connection to the living room.

"I don't really care. You can pick yours."

The door to the hotel room led to the living room. From there, you could go through one of two doors and enter a bedroom.

They were the same except for the windows. Because of how the room was situated, one had a window by the side of the bed, while the other had one on the opposite side of the bed.

"Then I'll take the room with the window that's far from the bed."

"Of course you will..."

Genken entered the room he claimed and closed the curtains. As Locus had deducted during the past year, Genken didn't like waking up. That's why he tried to avoid sunlight when sleeping.

"Let's say we meet in 15 minutes to go visit some places."

"Okay."

So that was it: This was their apartment in the enemy's territory.
