Chapter 6: Stitch's Prank

The next day, Uchiha Waku lay in a hospital bed, slowly opening his eyes. Glancing around, he noticed Sasuke lying in the bed next to him, and Stitch was also asleep on another bed.

"He's awake! Uchiha Waku is awake!" The nurse attending to him hurriedly ran out to call for help.

Before long, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, entered the room accompanied by Kakashi.

Kakashi still wore his ANBU mask, having brought Sasuke and Waku to the hospital.

Sarutobi entered with a gentle and kind smile. Meanwhile, Sasuke, who had awakened, didn't react as dramatically as expected. His eyes held a vacant look, clearly still affected by the events of the previous day.

"Waku, Sasuke, you're awake. How are you feeling?" Sarutobi's tone was soothing.

"Lord Hokage, Itachi killed our entire clan. Sob... How could he do such a thing?" Uchiha Waku feigned tears, acting as if he couldn't comprehend Itachi's actions.

However, before Sarutobi could respond, Sasuke, lying on the adjacent bed, coldly retorted, "Hmph, just a useless crybaby."

Sasuke had always looked down on Waku, considering him a disgrace to the Uchiha clan.

"Sasuke, don't say that. We need to understand Waku. After all, he used to trust and admire Itachi so much. It's normal for him to struggle with accepting what happened," Sarutobi intervened.

Sasuke fell silent upon hearing Sarutobi's words.

Believe in Itachi? Haven't I been doing the same?

"Both of you need to stay strong. The Uchiha clan still has you, and behind you stands Konoha. No matter what happens, Konoha is your solid support."

"Wherever leaves dance, fire will burn. The shadow of fire illuminates the village, nurturing new leaves."

"You two are the new saplings. I look forward to your growth."

At this moment, Sarutobi inadvertently activated his brainwashing technique. However, he got the targets mixed up:

- One was Uchiha Waku, a time-traveler who knew the story's development and was well aware of Sarutobi's character.

- The other was mentally unstable Uchiha Sasuke, who was currently obsessed with revenge and willing to do anything for power.

Nevertheless, the show must go on.

"Thank you, Third Hokage, for your comforting words. We'll train hard and repay Konoha for nurturing us," Uchiha Waku wiped away a tear, putting on a convincing display.

Sarutobi observed Waku's emotional act, nodding approvingly.

What a good child. It's a shame his talent is lacking. If only the rest of the Uchiha clan were like this—then they wouldn't have faced annihilation.

"Hmph~" ¹.

Uchiha Sasuke seemed somewhat displeased with Uchiha Waku's demeanor, but due to Sarutobi's presence, he refrained from saying anything.

"By the way, Waku, is this your spirit beast?" Sarutobi pointed to Stitch, who was still sleeping.

"Yes, that's right. I found him injured in the forests behind Konoha once. I brought him home and treated his wounds, and he became my spirit beast," Waku casually fabricated a story. After all, the situation was as he described, whether you believed it or not.

"Oh, I see," Sarutobi replied, not paying much attention. In the world of shinobi, spirit beasts were generally stronger based on their size, although there were exceptions like the Sarutobi clan's monkey demons.

As for Stitch, the bear-dog-like creature, there didn't seem to be anything particularly remarkable about him.

Sarutobi continued, "There's one more matter. The Uchiha clan's assets were partially entrusted to Konoha's previous generation. Now that you're a ninja, part of those assets will be under your care. However, you'll also bear the responsibility of looking after Sasuke. When he comes of age, all the remaining property will be handed over to him."

With that, Sarutobi handed Waku a stack of silver bills, totaling around five million ryo—barely a fraction of the Uchiha clan's wealth. It would cover basic expenses for a regular ninja until adulthood.

Clearly, Sarutobi was quite frugal.

"Understood, Third Hokage. I'll take good care of Sasuke!" Waku quickly pledged, adopting a devoted expression worthy of a Hokage's approval.

"Hmph, who needs his care," Sasuke grumbled coldly. But he had no choice; after all, it was the Hokage's decision.

"Thank you, Sasuke. Please look after him," Waku smiled at Sasuke, though secretly contemplating whether he should find an opportunity to eliminate this second pillar. After all, Itachi cared for him, and Itachi's suffering would be exquisite if Sasuke were gone.

Yes, there was potential. And with Konoha and Itachi's unwavering loyalty, perhaps even the entire ninja world could be destroyed.

The seemingly mild-mannered Uchiha Waku harbored a hidden agenda. No one knew he was plotting the downfall of the shinobi world!

Sasuke, uninterested in Waku's words, turned his head away, refusing to acknowledge him.

"Rest well, both of you. I have other matters to attend to," Sarutobi said, rising to leave.

"Goodbye, Lord Hokage," Waku replied politely.

...

Soon, several days passed, and both Uchiha Waku and Uchiha Sasuke were finally ready to leave the hospital.

Sasuke hadn't sustained significant injuries; it was mainly the emotional shock that affected him. As for Waku, his injuries had been transformed into a dream using Izanagi earlier that day.

Waku packed his belongings, preparing to leave. However, just then, Stitch suddenly darted into the room, followed by an angry shout from outside.

"Stitch, stop right there! Today, I'm going to skin you alive!" A doctor burst into the room.

The doctor had multiple syringes sticking out of him—some in his buttocks, others in his arms or legs.

"Hahaha, you're so gullible!" Stitch laughed heartily. Over the past few days, he'd become adept at speaking and loved playing pranks. For instance, he'd dress up in a doctor's coat and give injections to other patients or add a bit of his own snot to their meals. The hospital had been in chaos because of him.

Waku had grown accustomed to these antics. The system hadn't lied—Stitch's personality was truly mischievous. If Waku weren't there to keep him in check, Stitch would likely be wreaking havoc everywhere, not just pulling pranks.

Feeling somewhat helpless, Waku bowed deeply and said, "Please forgive Stitch's behavior. He's just playful."

The doctor, seeing Waku's humble demeanor, didn't press further. "Let's settle for a compensation of five hundred thousand ryo," he said.

"Pathetic," Sasuke coldly muttered, displeased with Waku's submissive attitude. He felt it demeaned the Uchiha name. Throughout the journey back to the Uchiha compound, Sasuke remained silent, refusing to speak to Waku.
