As Delilah got ready for work the next morning, her mind churned with frustration from the previous night's encounter with Hunter.

His audacity to corner her and the unsettling reaction it had elicited in her left her feeling like she had tasted something bitter and unpleasant.

Today, she was determined to maintain her composure and keep him at arm's length. Agreeing to a nightcap with him had been a bad idea. If anything last night was a warning to her never to let down her guard.

As she entered the dining room, she saw Hunter already seated at the table with Jessica, both engaged in light-hearted conversation.

The sight of him so relaxed and comfortable in her home only heightened her irritation. Hunter looked up and seeing her, he grinned.

"Good morning, Lila," Hunter greeted, his voice laced with a cheerfulness that grated on her nerves. "Sleep well?"
