Chapter 9: Boss? Not a threat
The four walked west for a solid few minutes. On the way Lee described the boss to the party.
"The boss is humanoid, carries a sword. He looks like one of the Qing Dynasty swordsmen," Lee said. "Level 10, so it's most likely he has advanced into a class."
In Awaken, you can choose to complete a quest to advance into a basic class. However, there do exist hidden classes; these ones require a higher difficulty quest and are often rare to come across.
There is also a second condition though. That is if your real life profession has some specialities, you might automatically advance into a class, often a hidden class. This condition is even more rare than coming across a hidden quest.
The same goes for NPCs. Once they exceed Level 10, they would most likely be part of a class, carrying at least one class ability. This swordsman was probably part of the "Blade" class. This basic class focuses on attack speed and dealing damage from fast consecutive combos.
Yel thought through what he knew and said, "Jill, when we fight the boss, can you sneak up and attack his vulnerable back? I'll make sure he doesn't turn around."
"Make sure that not only your energy strike hits, but the actual blade hits too." He added.
Jill nodded, but asked, "Why?"
"Lee should be able to answer this one," Yel frowned and side eyed Lee. "It's because after the energy strike hits, you open a wound on the enemy, and when the actual blade hits, it cuts into the wound you already opened, dealing extra wound damage. Lee, you know this right?"
Lee looked awkward and murmured, "I don't know everything."
Yel laughed and joked, "But you're a living encyclopaedia!"
Soon, the boss came into view:

Description: A guard of the Royal Horangi cult, the newly risen threat to the Land of Suresa. A bounty has been placed on this person by the Royal Suresa Family.
The land of Awaken was called Suresa, and it is ruled by the Royal Suresa Family. This Royal Horangi cult is the evil faction in Awaken II, most of the high level dungeons and mobs will be related to the Horangi cult.
"Guys ready? Jill ready?" Yel asked.
Jill nodded and started moving diagonally around to the back of the boss.
Yel looked at the boss and charged at it, launching a jab directly at the guard's throat.

Yel was surprised at how low the number was.
The guard grunted and locked on Yel, slicing him with his sword. Yel found the swing extraordinarily dangerous and was sure it was a skill, yet he casually dodged out of the way and jabbed again, this time at the heart.

Then Jill appeared behind the boss, and sliced into his back.

The first number was from the energy strike, the second was from the physical blade with a bonus from wound damage.
The boss roared and tried to turn. Yel swiftly sliced into his left leg.

The boss stumbled and tripped, giving Yel the perfect opportunity. He swung his sword down and cut into the guard's neck.
