Chapter 42: Where Are We?

Temporary Operations Base of the Three-Leaf Clover Organization

Break Room

"So, my memories will be erased?" Yina clenched her fists tightly, knowing these people would not let her go with all the information she had gathered over time.

"Your friend Jon is now part of the organization. He is a resource we depend on, and we cannot expose his identity because it would jeopardize our plans for the past, future, and present." Rossi smiled slightly. She had exchanged places with Jonathan during the temporal journey, so she knew what he was going through.

Things would change in an unpredictable way, and only then could she continue living. The ties she was born into were something no one else knew about, so she needed everything to go as she required.

"Is there no chance I'll never forget my friend?"

"You are a dispensable resource, of no use to us."

"But I can..." Yina fell silent for a few seconds, remembering Jon's words before he left.

'Once we finish this, everything can finally start anew—a second chance to do things right,' Rossi thought, looking at Yina, unaware she was being spied on.

"Jon is my friend; he would be upset if you erased my memory. I promise I will never tell anyone." Yina's eyes showed determination.

Rossi sighed, checked the time, and said, "Listen, focus on living and experiencing everything you can."

Yina was surprised.

'If he fails, then everything will repeat, and those monsters will invade us...' Rossi thought, recalling scenes from her past life.

When Yina heard this, she fell silent. "What kind of monsters will invade us?"

...

"Damn, buddy, you look like hell." Jonathan's first action after seeing the condition of the boy he guessed was named Will was to hand him a bottle of water and some dry food, waiting for him to recover a bit.

Will extended his hand, took the offered items, and looked around with a fearful gaze. "How did you do that?"

"Let's say I'm special. Now tell me, are we in 1982?" Jonathan was excited. When he saw that breathing in this place was possible, he took off his suit and tossed it aside.

"Yes, we are in that year."

Jonathan nodded, then asked, "Do you know what these things are?"

"You don't know?" Will was surprised. He looked at Jonathan's clothes, which were certainly strange, as if he had prepared to come to this place. But all those ideas were dismissed when he heard that Jonathan didn't know what the monsters were.

After considering many things, Will hastily said, "My friends called it Demogorgon, but these are different breeds. They weren't real until a week ago. I've been running from them all this time until now."

"Now tell me, how did you get here?" Jonathan was more interested as he conversed with the boy, knowing in advance that there seemed to be a dimensional space in this place that was reality.

"That monster brought me here through a portal."

Jonathan understood. He meditated for a few seconds and, after reaching a conclusion, instinctively smiled. "You can call me Jon. You don't know me, but I might be the only person who can get you out of here."

"I'm Will..."

"Well, Will, since you've given me a lot of information, put on the suit I just discarded." Jonathan sheathed his machetes on his back and carried the backpack with the necessary resources.

Although he didn't want to carry a burden, helping this boy could provide him with many more advantages once he was out of this place where there was nothing but darkness.

When Will put on the suit, they both walked towards the boy's house. Using firearms with his current abilities would only be for fun, as they wouldn't give him any extra skills in combat.

"Where do you come from?" Will felt incredibly calm being with someone in this dark place.

Jonathan glanced towards a series of inns approaching them and said, "I come from a very distant world, one you know as Mars."

"Really?"

"Of course not; are you an idiot?" Jonathan unsheathed a machete, pointed in a specific direction, and said, "You can walk in that direction; you won't find any monsters, as they will all come after me."

"Shouldn't we run?"

Jonathan smiled and said, "You should run."
