The Agony of the Winner

"Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!"

Crack!

A figure moved rapidly through the darkness; it wasn't a werewolf per se, but a man wearing a wolf mask, moving with superhuman speed.

"Please, don't kill me."

"That's a pretty classic line from idiotic humans who don't want to die. Their hypocrisy makes me nauseous, and the urge to kill consumes me from within." The man with the wolf mask kicked the pleading man, who crashed into the wall.

Boom!

When he killed the last man in this place, he disappeared. His speed was so fast that it was imperceptible to the naked eye. His strength, overall qualities, and ways of killing were things you could only find in movies.

If Jonathan could see the wolf man's abilities, he would be easily fascinated. What was being witnessed here was a massacre, a beast with a human appearance, killing one by one the people who had been gathered less than half an hour ago.

...

"Slow down the heartbeat, breathe more slowly, and make no movement." Jonathan had heard the screams that could pierce every corner of this city, so he had to be smart.

The steps to hide from the beast had to be considered carefully. Firstly, he needed to smell different, and secondly, he had to make the least movement possible.

At the same time, when his breathing is slow, it not only avoids making movements while taking in oxygen but also slows his heartbeats. Ideally, he would be asleep, but controlling movements in that state is something he couldn't manage.

"One, two, three, four..." Jonathan was counting numbers in his mind while his breathing became longer and longer.

The question he was now asking himself was what would happen to the winner. From what he had heard, the one who brought them here on their deathbed is responsible for letting them live.

If someone has that power, they would be considered a god, but by making such childish games, Jonathan could only think of one thing: the guy doing all this was just having fun.

Maybe it was even death itself, giving everyone a challenge to overcome. This fascinated Jonathan because he had always been in a dispute with death, using his skills to cheat it.

Under equal conditions, Jonathan had beaten death more times than he could imagine.

"We can hide here; this is the middle floor."

Jonathan frowned when he heard human voices. What were the chances of someone entering the building where he was hiding? This wasn't right; probably the coincidence was being manipulated by the guy who created this place.

Boom!

"Hide!"

There were only two people in the room connecting to the ventilation duct. They were now being taped by the figure with the horse mask and were killed in just a few seconds.

Jonathan didn't move, didn't open his eyes, and avoided breathing rapidly.

"You've won; you can come out."

Come out now. Damn it, Jonathan was now a motionless gargoyle, locked in the same position he had been in for the last thirty minutes.

No one would get him out of this place. He would never come out unless it was true that only one was left; only then would he consider it.

"Won't you come out?" The figure with the horse mask took out a cellphone and dialed a specific number.

Jonathan knew nothing of this, and when he did, it was too late. He didn't know how or when he had a cellphone in his pocket, but when he realized it, it was ringing loudly.

"What the hell?"

Boom!

Jonathan had been dragged down by a human hand, and when he tried to do something, it gripped his neck tightly.

"You've won. I would have taken an eternity to find you, so you will be highly recommended in your next incarnation. You will get a skill that will make you stronger; you might even fly, and if you have the talent, you will control an element of your choice."

"Just for this body..."

"Are you saying I killed you just because you're in a child's body?"

"Coward..."

"Then seek me in your next life. If you find me, you can take your revenge."

Crack!

Jonathan tried to take the horse mask off the figure. He hadn't heard anything it said due to the adrenaline, and when he was about to fulfill his wish, his neck was broken.

"You'll pay for this, damn horse." Jonathan thought as darkness completely enveloped him, not knowing if he would wake up in his body again or if nothingness would consume him.
