The full moon hung high in the sky.

Its gentle light added a touch of brightness to the deep night.

Arriving outside Tanzaku Town, Gensou, standing in the darkness, glanced behind him. Several shadowy figures, blending seamlessly with the night, were silently approaching him.

"Konoha's ANBU... no, the colors of their masks are more varied and eerie, more like Root."

Gensou clearly remembered Root and its infamous leader, Shimura Danzo.

"Have I been discovered? Because of the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki?"

Gensou didn't think Root had pinpointed his location.

Otherwise, if they truly set a trap for him, there would be more than just these few people.

The more likely reason was because of Naruto, the critically important Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.

These Root ninja were probably ordered to monitor Naruto's every move. Gensou's recent surveillance of the izakaya might have coincidentally been noticed by these scattered operatives.

"Whether it's your luck or misfortune."

Gensou stopped, allowing the Root ninja to surround him.

One, two, three, four... Eight Root ninja in total.

This configuration suggested two squads, rotating shifts to monitor the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki.

At this moment.

Compared to the bustling inside of Tanzaku Town, the area just outside the wall was eerily silent.

Even with eight additional people.

The Root ninja remained silent throughout. The leader, upon recognizing Gensou, quickly confirmed the target and, without hesitation, made a few tactical gestures. The two Root squads moved in orderly fashion.

Clang~ Clang~ Clang~ The sound of drawn blades broke the silence.

The eight Root ninja, in battle formation, coldly and relentlessly attacked Gensou amidst the whistling wind.

Of course, the first to arrive were the overwhelming kunai and shuriken.

"Boring."

Gensou muttered indifferently, reaching out to catch a swiftly flying kunai with ease.

Clang, clang, clang, clang... The sound of metal clashing rapidly echoed.

The kunai in Gensou's hand became a dense web, slicing through the incoming kunai and shuriken from all directions.

Until a sharp sonic boom sounded.

Using the Body Flicker Technique, a Root ninja wielding a long sword ferociously slashed at Gensou's neck.

Gensou calmly stepped back, the blade narrowly missing him.

Before the Root ninja could react,

Gensou's kunai, infused with wind chakra, shot out.

The Root ninja, through years of rigorous training, reflexively dodged, narrowly avoiding the kunai.

However, when Gensou closed in, he was a beat too slow.

Crack.

The ninja's wrist shattered instantly, causing him to grunt in pain.

Gensou forcibly seized his sword, kicked him away, then turned, raised his arm, and slashed.

Everything happened so quickly.

To the others, their comrade seemed to be kicked away in the blink of an eye.

Another Root ninja, who had flashed behind Gensou and was ready to attack, suddenly saw a cold silver light speeding toward him.

"Ugh."

The ninja instinctively clutched his bleeding neck and fell lifelessly.

"First one."

Gensou raised the blood-dripping sword, calmly announcing.

The remaining Root ninja, unfazed, charged again without even glancing at their fallen comrade.

The clashing of blades continued to echo.

Despite the inhumanly harsh training, making them far superior to ordinary ninja, the Root ninja were still no match for Gensou, even in his restricted state.

Soon, under his swift and decisive blade, two more Root ninja fell.

As he raised his sword to pierce another silent, charging Root ninja,

Clang.

The blade tip hit something hard and couldn't penetrate.

"Earth Release: Hardening Jutsu?"

Noticing the brown, rock-like surface of his opponent, Gensou withdrew his sword, stepping back, then...

Rip!

Blinding lightning enveloped his blade.

In the opponent's widened pupils, Gensou's lightning-wrapped blade struck again.

Like cutting through tofu.

This time, the blade pierced through the hardening jutsu without resistance, impaling the Root ninja.

Hot blood sprayed from the ninja's mouth, splattering inside his mask.

Despite feeling his life slipping away, he remained eerily silent, not retreating but advancing, holding Gensou's hands tightly to prevent him from pulling away.

Simultaneously, an Aburame clan Root ninja, seeing this, extended both hands. Innumerable self-destructing bugs, bred quickly during the brief moment, swarmed from his sleeves, forming a large black cloud aimed at Gensou.

In an instant, the insect army descended. Gensou, temporarily restrained, frowned slightly, his gaze shifting as a cold metallic sheen covered his body.

It was the Steel Release: Kekkei Genkai.

Boom, boom, boom~~~ The insect army from the Aburame clan decisively self-destructed.

Amidst the deafening explosions, a small mushroom cloud rose.

As the smoke cleared, the remaining Root ninja, prepared with sealing scrolls to imprison Gensou, paused, their breathing finally fluctuating as they looked towards the blast zone.

In the large crater, the hardened ninja was blown to bits, nowhere to be seen.

At the explosion's epicenter.

Gensou, unscathed, calmly walked out.

Crack~ Crack~ As he moved, the steel covering his body shattered.

Recalling his numerous battles with the Kage, his Steel Release had never broken.

Yet now, a single blow from the Aburame clan's secret technique had caused such damage.

Gensou shook his head.

The difference was too great.

Even with limited power, he could still deal with the remaining ones.

Gensou glanced at the four remaining Root ninja, a broken sword from the earlier battle falling into his hand.

In the next moment, lightning chakra once again enveloped the blade.

Looking at the remaining Root ninja, Gensou calmly said,

"Will you take your own lives, or shall I do it myself?"

There was no response.

Everything proceeded in silence.

Until the end.

Gensou noticed a barely visible long shadow beneath him.

As it faded, he slashed with his sword.

The last remaining Root ninja from the Nara clan fell lifelessly.

With that, both Root squads were annihilated.

====

One had to admit, Danzo was indeed skilled at training ninjas.

Even Gensou had to acknowledge that these Root ninjas were no less proficient than the elite shinobi of the Warring States era, perhaps even surpassing them in cold-blooded efficiency.

It was just their unfortunate luck to encounter him.

Any ninja below Kage level would have had a hard time against these two squads.

"It seems Danzo, that old schemer, has issued a high-priority order to capture me."

Otherwise, given Root's discipline, these ninjas would never completely abandon their mission of monitoring the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki to go all out against him.

"I'll remember this."

Gensou made a mental note, glanced towards Tanzaku Town, and disappeared into the night.

A minute later, Jiraiya arrived at the scene.

The noise of Gensou's battle with the Root ninja had been drowned out by the hustle and bustle of Tanzaku Town, but it didn't escape the notice of someone of the Sannin's level.

Tsunade continued drinking, uninterested in the commotion.

Thus, Jiraiya arrived alone.

Looking at the eight corpses on the ground, Jiraiya wasn't in a good mood.

Though he disliked Danzo and Root's methods, Root ninjas were still members of Konoha.

The fact that eight Konoha ninjas had been killed within the Land of Fire, right under his nose, was a blatant provocation.

Jiraiya's face turned serious:

"Was it Orochimaru?"

He first thought of his old friend.

Although Tsunade hadn't said anything, Jiraiya knew that she had met with Orochimaru in Tanzaku Town and they had discussed something before he and Naruto arrived.

It was normal for Orochimaru to still be lurking nearby.

However, after carefully examining the wounds on the eight Root ninjas, Jiraiya dismissed this idea.

He was too familiar with Orochimaru's combat style.

The way these Root ninjas died didn't match Orochimaru's methods.

"Someone else? To be able to take down eight Root ninjas in such a short time, without getting hurt and leaving no traces, must be a formidable individual."

Jiraiya thought gravely.

The task of persuading Tsunade to become the Fifth Hokage seemed riskier than he had imagined.

"The girl with Tsunade must know something. I can't delay any longer; I need to find out the truth." Jiraiya pondered.

But before that, as comrades, he had to deal with the bodies of the Root ninjas.

After the night of Root's demise, everything returned to normal.

As if nothing had happened, Tsunade continued her routine of gambling, drinking, and sleeping.

Naruto, determined to master the Rasengan within seven days, practiced the jutsu tirelessly from morning to night.

Although Jiraiya hadn't managed to get the details of Orochimaru's deal from Shizune due to Tsunade's orders, he did find out about Gensou's arrival. While occasionally drinking with Tsunade, he spent most of his time searching around Tanzaku Town for hidden enemies.

Orochimaru alone was enough of a headache.

Adding the legendary Gensou into the mix made it even worse.

On the other side.

The source of Jiraiya's headache, Gensou, was not in Tanzaku Town but resting in a nearby city.

Although the Edo Tensei body didn't need rest, a good environment still made him feel more comfortable.

Gensou took this time to explore the current ninja world, which was vastly different from the Warring States era he was familiar with.

Seven days later.

Emerging from a cinema, having just watched a Princess Gale movie, Gensou sighed:

"I never expected the movie technology to have developed to this extent. Compared to the terrible films I saw in my past life, this movie was quite exciting."

The current ninja world not only had a rich variety of ninjutsu but also enjoyed the conveniences and advantages brought by technology.

Compared to the cold, lifeless underworld, this vibrant world made him want to stay even more.

Gensou looked up at the bright sun, calculating the time. Today was the agreed day.

Orochimaru and Tsunade would soon arrive for their meeting, and he certainly couldn't miss this event.

"It's time to go."

A gentle breeze blew, and Gensou's figure vanished from the cinema entrance.

Tanzaku Town.

In the same alley where the wall had been shattered by a giant snake.

After spending the night drinking with Jiraiya until he passed out from the drugged drink she slipped him, Tsunade came alone to the alley to meet Orochimaru.

Almost simultaneously, they appeared on opposite sides of the alley.

As they approached each other, Orochimaru's golden pupils flashed with doubt.

"Gensou didn't come?"

Similarly,

Tsunade scanned the surroundings.

Not seeing any sign of Gensou, she frowned slightly.

'Only Orochimaru?'

At that moment, Gensou, who both Orochimaru and Tsunade were thinking about, hadn't arrived yet.

After seeing the bet between Tsunade and Naruto, he realized that Orochimaru's deal had fallen through.

Consequently, his own deal had also failed.

Not interested in tangling with the stubborn Tsunade, he shifted his focus to Shizune.

As for how to proceed,

he believed that with Orochimaru's threat, Shizune would be eager to come to Tsunade's aid.

The Will of Fire instilled in Konoha ninja emphasized never abandoning comrades.

So, what choice would they make for their comrades?

Gensou was very curious.

To ensure their meeting wasn't disrupted, Tsunade had knocked Shizune out, leaving her unconscious for an entire night.

If not for Naruto's injuries from practicing the Rasengan waking him up earlier than expected, Shizune would have remained unconscious for two days. After waking up, Naruto roused Shizune from her stupor.

"Not good! Tsunade-sama!"

Learning the current time from Naruto, Shizune immediately got up to pursue Tsunade.

Just then, Jiraiya, who had also been awakened by others and sensed something was wrong, rushed back. Seeing that Tsunade was missing, he sternly asked Shizune:

"Shizune, what exactly did you and Orochimaru talk about? You need to tell me now."

Shizune's expression darkened. "I wanted to believe in Tsunade-sama, so I didn't say anything. But... there's no time! Please follow me, I'll explain on the way!"

With that, Shizune quickly ran outside.

Jiraiya and Naruto followed closely.

On the way, as Shizune explained the entire deal, Naruto naturally thought the answer should be "NO."

But Jiraiya's heart grew heavier.

"Nawaki... Dan... Orochimaru's really good at calculating. We must stop Tsunade immediately, otherwise..."

Jiraiya was prepared for the worst.

But before he could act, an unexpected figure appeared ahead, causing his expression to change drastically.
