Chapter 5: Roles

"Alright all then… The entrance exam." Kyle laid out all the info he had on his desk. Meanwhile, Claw was in his Kyaromon form, squeezing itself inside a tight gap between the wall and a shelf, fast asleep.

"From the previous years, it looks like the acceptance rate is less than 10 percent. Honestly not too bad."

"The Entrance Exam is testing for four types of Tamers. To pass, I just need to show that I'm capable for just one of the types."

"Vanguards - Tamers who act on the frontline, with the ability to combat against their opponents in either one-on-one or multiple face-offs."

"Fixers - Tamers who can support their team as well as the civilians around them. They help out in various situations, with some even having specific skills sets."

"Runners - Tamers who can infiltrate into the opponent's defenses before, during, and even after the situation had past. They specialize in tracking, and are proficient at investigating, needing to be smart and quick-minded at all times."

"Scarecrows - Tamers who make sure to be the last ones standing. They ensure the well-being of others, not fearing to put themselves in danger at a moment's notice. When the team needs time to rest, they will take on all the blunt head-on as long as needed."

"Basically I need to show them, the invigilators, the ones testing us, that I can meet the standard for at least one of these roles." Kyle was writing down all the pros and cons for each role.

"Though… The specifics of the tests given for the entrance exam seems to be different every year."

Kyle leaned on his palm, thinking of what to do. It sounds like every role is pretty difficult. The more he looked into each role, the more respect he had for the Tamers out there.

He knew of some pretty famous ones that work daily to fight off against Virus Digimons that leak into this world.

All-Might for example. Arguably the strongest Tamer out there. Kyle was never much of a fan of Tamers or anything Digimon, but even he have heard of him. Looking him up, it looks like he falls into the Vanguard role.

"Well..! No point in thinking too much." Kyle stretches his body before getting up and waking up Claw. "Get up, it's already 12pm."

Claw sleepily opened it's eyes before slowly slipping out of the gap and stretching back into it's regular shape.

….

They were back at the park, to do what Kyle assume was training. His thought process was to just get used to fighting with Claw, and test for himself what role he might be good at.

"Alright Claw, try attacking that tree over there." Claw was in his Kyaromon form.

Kyle was a bit shocked. The tree was a bit far from them but Claw got to it in seconds. It was as fast as a strong gust of wind. Using it's wing-like ears, it flew to the tree before turning around to hit it using its tail, leaving a mark.

After running towards the tree, Kyle saw the mark left on the tree by Claw's strike. As he observed it, he could tell the amount of force on the impact was big. Not wanting to lose momentum, Kyle and Claw decided to run it back over again multiple times.

Kyle would instruct a target and Claw would rush towards it and slam it with its tail as fast and hard as possible. Kyle figured as a Tamer, quick communication with your partner is probably pretty important.

After a few hours, with breaks in-between, the two decided to end it for the day. As they headed home, Kyle made sure to write down any useful info he could find out about Claw.

Currently, he has two forms. Pafumon, its Fresh level, which is smaller in size but has the ability to suck in air to increase its size, and the air it expels out is strong enough to either blow itself out of danger or hit the opponent with a gust of air that's as strong as maybe someone pushing you. Not good enough to deal any real damage but maybe if it's lucky someone can trip and fall from it.

And then it's In-Training level, Kyaromon. Its pretty fast and also has the perks of being able to fly. It's method of attacking is it's tail which, from all of Kyle's observations, can cause an impact as strong as possibly a hit from a seasoned human fighter.

Since it's body is also similar to rubber, it can absorb some impact to it as well. Kyle tested this by playing Claw around like a basketball, and it didn't seem to mind at all. Although at the end of the day, he did notice some bruises on its tail so it isn't invincible.

Fortunately, Claw seems to heal just on its own. Kyle could see some form of digital dust, blue, black and white specks, coming onto Claw's body repairing it. Kyle scratched it's head as a form of appreciation and it seemed to like it.

And so, Kyle and Claw trained daily, improving each other's coordination and understanding of one another. The entrance exam was nearing, with many individuals around the country preparing for it as well.
