Chapter 3: Chapter 3:- Chakra disease
[later that night]
[Kana's POV]
By the time I woke up it was way past midnight. I turned around to see Kenshin lying beside me, lost in thought. "My poor boy. He must be really concerned about me."I thought as I hugged him tightly."I'm sorry, Ken-chan."I whispered softly."My mind just couldn't bear the pain of losing your father and sister. But–––"Tears began falling from my eyes as I tried to speak but I couldn't.... it was just too hard.
"Mom,"Kenshin interrupted, wiping my tears. "It's okay. You knew Dad better than me and you know that he wouldn't want you to cry. He'd want you to move forward, and just cherish his memory. You're all I have left and you're all I need. But right now, it's okay to cry."he said, hugging me tightly.
"I can't believe I'm being comforted by a 7 year old."I thought as I let my tears flow freely. "I miss them, soooo much! I didn't even get to see them, one last time. I didn't even get to bury them. It's so.... so wrong! Why did that Itachi have to kill them?! What was their fault?! Why did they have to die, Ken-chan?! Why?!"I spent the rest of the night hugging Kenshin and crying my heart out. Slowly, over the next few months, I recovered. I hid my grief and pain behind my usual cheerfulness because I knew that seeing me grieving was hurting Kenshin as well. And I noticed that he had awakened his sharingan as well. So I decided to teach him stronger jutsu, above academy student level. I began with chakra control exercises like the tree climbing technique and walking on water technique.
But over time, I noticed that my chakra flow was becoming disrupted, weak. One day, while I was showing him the adamantine sealing chains jutsu, my body suddenly felt weak,as if I had completely exhausted my chakra. And when I tried to get up, I coughed up blood and passed out.
[Kenshin's POV]
"Mom!"I rushed to her side the moment she coughed up blood and passed out. I brought Pain to our house because I knew that one of his paths had the ability to heal injuries. Although he was skeptical about how I came to know about it I just shrugged and said that I had just heard a rumour. But upon trying to heal her, Pain discovered that mom had a chakra disease. It was similar to thalassemia in nature as it prevented mom's body from generating chakra. Just like how thalassemia affects blood. But her body still needs chakra so Pain tried to give mom chakra but her body rejected it, violently. It was so bad that we had to knock her out.
"What do we do now, Pain-sama?"I asked him.
"Perhaps you should try to give her chakra. Her body rejected my chakra but yours is similar to hers since you're her son. You might be able to help her." And that's what I did. And surprisingly, this time, mom's body didn't reject it. Rather, her body relaxed as my chakra flowed into her body.
"Listen, Kenshin."Pain said as I kept giving mom chakra. "This disease, I cannot cure it. It will continue to grow and your mother's body will continue to weaken. Take good care of her so that she can die a peaceful death. Give her chakra from time to time. The only way this disease would stop is if her heart stopped. Until then, try to ease her suffering."Pain said before leaving. About an hour later, mom woke up.
"Umm.... Well..... Thanks, Ken-chan. I don't know what happened but I feel much better now."
"Is that so? I'm glad you feel better, mom."I replied. I hugged her tightly as I fought back tears. I couldn't bear to even think about losing my mother to an incurable disease a second time.
"What's wrong, Ken-chan? What happened?"mom asked, feeling concerned.
"Mom,"I said, taking a deep breath."you have a chakra disease, it's incurable. Your body can't generate chakra and I'm the only one that can give you chakra. And ––"I couldn't bring myself to finish the sentence, to tell her that she was going to die because of this disease inevitably. So I just clung to her.
"It's okay, I understand. I'll be here as long as I can, I won't leave you. I promise. I love you, Ken-chan."

Over the course of the next 3 years, mom's condition worsened. She began having trouble walking, followed by complete loss of function in her lower body. Her upper body fared no better as she began losing strength in her arms and back. Although she could still move her arms, she couldn't hold anything. I had to feed her, bathe her and carry her to the toilet. She couldn't even move around the house on a wheelchair because her hands were too weak.
Although it felt a bit uncomfortable to wash her body and wipe her butt after she used the toilet, over time, I got used to it. I was determined not to let her condition worsen further so I began researching medical ninjutstu after graduating from the academy. Another 4 years went by and her condition didn't decline as fast as before. But suddenly, one day, when I was giving her chakra, her body rejected it.
My heart sank. I realized that the end was near. I activated my sharingan to see how much chakra she had and concluded that it would last another week at most. I had one last option, going to the leaf village and asking Tsunade to do something. Maybe she'll be able to at least extend mom's lifespan, even if it's just by a day. So I prepared to take her to the leaf village.
