Chapter 11: System

Third Person P.O.V.

Lucious and Lilith watched their son in anticipation, their fists clenched as Noah lay down on the altar. Soon, the priests started chanting the mantra around him. As they continued watching, a few minutes passed with no sign of change. Noah still lay there on the altar, unconscious.

"What's happening? Why isn't his trait awakening?" Lucious asked anxiously.

"I don't know. It's the first time I've seen someone unable to awaken any trait," the high priest replied.

Minutes passed, and there was still no change. Noah remained unconscious. The priests also became restless. If anything were to happen to the only son of the duke, they would not be spared. Minutes turned into an hour, and Lucious began losing his cool. Lilith grew anxious, and Lucy started crying.

Lucious grabbed the high priest by the collar and demanded, "What is happening? Why is my son not waking up?"

The high priest, sweating buckets, tried to stay calm. "Lord Aldreck, please, we don't know what's happening right now."

While Lucious was conversing with the high priest, Lilith, unable to calm her anxiety, ran towards the altar to check on Noah. But as she reached near, she suddenly stopped, as if hitting an invisible wall. Seeing the situation, Lucious also approached.

"What is happening with my son?" Lucious asked, looking at the high priest.

"A miracle... Something extraordinary is happening," the priest said.

"What do you mean?" Lucious questioned.

"Earlier, it seemed that Noah was unable to awaken any trait since there were no fluctuations in mana. But now it seems that he has awakened something extraordinary, and whatever it is, it is protecting him."

"Protecting him? From whom?"

"From everyone. A transparent barrier has formed around Noah's unconscious body, preventing anyone from approaching him."

"I think Noah has awakened at least SS-level talent, and his body is trying to assimilate this new power. That's why he is still unconscious. He should wake up once his body adjusts," the high priest explained.

Hearing his words, everyone calmed down.

"I deeply apologize for my earlier behavior," Lucious bowed towards the high priest.

"It's okay, Lord Aldreck. It's human nature. I would have done the same in your shoes," the priest said.

"Thank you for understanding," Lucious replied.

"It's alright. You should rest a little; we don't know how long this will take."

"No, thank you. We will wait," Lilith said firmly.

Time passed slowly. Lucious kept circling the altar, looking for any sign of movement. After a few hours, the wait finally ended. Noah groaned softly and tried to open his eyes. Hearing the sound, everyone's attention turned to the altar. Lucious was the first to notice and swiftly moved to help Noah sit up.

Noah's P.O.V.

I felt a hard surface beneath me. My body was stiff, and I tried to open my eyes but had to close them again due to the brightness. A groan escaped my mouth as I tried to speak. My body ached all over. As I tried to sit up, I felt a hand on my back, helping me. I looked up to see my father with concern etched on his face. Soon, my mother appeared beside me, bombarding me with questions.

"Are you alright? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? Are you in pain?"

My head started to spin from the bombardment. My body ached from lying on the hard altar and from the divine power I had received. The priests began casting healing magic, and I felt relieved as the pain subsided. I let out a sigh of relief.

"Sigh... I'm alright, Mother. You don't have to worry so much," I tried to reassure her and coax Lucy, who was still crying.

As the commotion settled a little, my father asked, "What trait did you awaken, son? Did you awaken as a swordsman like your father?"

"Or as a mage like your mother?" Mother added.

"Let's discuss this at home, Father," I said in a solemn tone.

Sensing the seriousness in my voice, they let it be for the time being.

"Okay, let's discuss it at home. For now, let's check your talent level," Lucious said.

"Father, when I said let's discuss it at home, I meant both my class and my talent level."

At my words, my father looked at me for a while, then sighed and said, "Sigh... Whatever you want."

Soon, we exited the church and departed for the duke's mansion.

The car was silent all the way. Father and mother didn't say anything. Mother kept looking at me with concern, while Lucy slept soundly in her lap, exhausted from the day's events. I kept staring ahead, or rather, at a translucent window floating in the air in front of me.

This was the reward the gods had given me: the "Karmic System." It was quite different from the systems I had read about in other stories. Unlike those, there were no mission tabs or mandatory quests. The Karmic System had only two functions: a status window and a shop window. The status window displayed my current stats, while the shop offered a variety of items from different realms, including things from Earth. I just needed Karmic points to redeem them, points earned from doing good deeds.

'What else would you expect from gods?' I thought wryly.

As I browsed through the system's functions, the car stopped. We had arrived home. The driver knights waiting at the mansion gate opened the car door. I closed the system window and stepped out, following my parents inside. I knew I had some explaining to do.
