Chapter 10: Council of Gods II
'So, this was the mystery behind my reincarnation. It wasn't some coincidence but the plan of the gods. But what can I do? Mortals are just pawns in front of these colossal beings. Even though I knew they did everything to save the world, but it still left a bad taste to be a part of someone's gamble.'
Seeing my expression, Thea seemed to sense something.
"Don't take it badly, Noah. We were also helpless. And we will compensate you for all the hardships you suffered," Thea said.
I let out a hollow chuckle and asked, "Haaah... Is this new life also a gamble for you?"
Hearing my words, the atmosphere became solemn.
"It's not like that," Selena broke the silence. "This life is the reward for you."
"Yes, at first we wanted to make you a demigod, but your last wish was to have a peaceful life and a loving family," Thea answered.
"So, with the consent of all the gods, I reincarnated you into this world in a powerful and loving family. Azeroth is a peaceful world unlike Endora, so you can live your life as you wish," Persephone said.
'Heh, Peaceful'
Hearing her words, I let out a mocking chuckle. 'It seems the gods don't know the future of this world. Azeroth was anything but a peaceful world. This world is based on the game "Hero's Conquest," an action-adventure RPG game.'
"So are you saying reincarnating me in this world is compensation for what I went through?" I said to the gods.
"Of course not. As compensation, we all have decided to bestow a little of our divine power to you. With that, you could be as powerful as a demigod. But there is a catch," Thea said.
"What's the catch?" I inquired.
"Your mortal body could not handle so much divine power at once. So, it will be sealed inside you, and as you strengthen your body, the seal will also be lifted over time," Thea said.
Hearing her words, my excitement dimmed a little.
Seeing my downcast expression Nys said, "Don't be sad. Even though you won't have our power now, you still have all the experience of your last life as the hero. All the swordsmanship experience and various magic spells that are yet to be found in this world are still in your mind," Nyx said.
"You're already ahead by decades of your peers," Selena added.
"Yes, you are right. I should be content with what I have."
"Is there anything else? If not, can you send me back?" I asked.
"Of course, there is something else. We have only discussed your compensation. We haven't shown you our gratitude yet," Selena said.
"There is more?" I asked.
"Of course there is. We have decided to give you a system that will help you in your new journey."
"System?"
"Yes, a system. It was my idea. I learned about it from a soul from your planet," Persephone said.
"I don't want it," I said firmly.
"WHY?" the gods asked in unison. They did not expect me to refuse it, did they? They seemed flustered.
"Why? From the memory I extracted from that earthling's soul, I learned that every isekai protagonist has a system. And the protagonist becomes overpowered in the end. Then why don't you want a system?" Persephone asked.
"You only saw that the protagonist became strong in the end but did not see the protagonist become the slave of the system, always completing ridiculous system missions, with the system threatening to kill the host if the mission failed," I retorted.
Hearing my words, the gods exhaled.
"Haaah ... If that's what you are worried about, then worry not. This is a reward, not a quest list. We have taken everything into consideration. I am sure you will like it," Thea said.
"And I have also added a feature to it. With that, you can talk to us whenever you want," Hephaestus said.
"It seems it's time for you to go back. Your family seems to be worried," Thea said.
Hearing her words, I asked, "How much time has passed on Earth?"
"It's been a few hours," she answered.
'Damn, they must be getting anxious.'
"How can I go back?" I asked anxiously.
"Don't be anxious. We will send you back. First, come forward and stand; we still have to bestow our blessings on you," Nyx said.
I followed her instructions and went ahead and stood in the centre of the semi-circle. The gods also stood up and raised their hands. Different coloured rays of light representing their divinity came out of their palms and fell on me.
I felt more energetic than ever. Strength in my body was increasing steadily. I was loving this feeling. But after some time, I started to feel pain. My blood seemed to be boiling. Veins began to appear all over my body. My body was unable to store all that power.
"Aaaaahhhhhhhh!" I started howling in pain and soon fainted from all the pain I was suffering.
