After the funeral ceremony for Queen Anema and Prince Baelon, Lord Baratheon had to leave for King's Landing to attend the council meeting where the succession to the Iron Throne would be decided. William, on the other hand, went back to Storm's End, and waited for his father's return. Days passed, and William kept himself busy with training and reading books.
However, the wait was finally over when Lord Baratheon returned to Storm's End. William who got the news of his father's return, went to him asked him about the council meeting. Although he already knew the outcome.
Lord Baratheon let out a heavy sigh and said: "It was a difficult decision, William. Many of the lords were not willing to compromise on their preferred candidate. But in the end, Princess Rhaenyra was named the heir to the Iron Throne. Lord Baratheon explained.
William listened intently as his father continued to speak about the need to prepare for what comes next. "We will have to travel to Dragonstone to meet with Princess Rhaenyra and pledge our loyalty to her. We must also strengthen our alliances with other houses and prepare for the inevitable conflicts that will arise," Lord Baratheon said.
"When do we leave for Dragonstone?" William asked while nodding his head in understand at the last sentence.
"As soon as possible, my son. We must make preparations and gather our escort of knights. As much as I trust in your skills, it's imperative that we gather our escort of knights for this journey. We can never be too cautious in times of uncertainty," Lord Baratheon replied with a small smile. "We must ensure our safety and the safety of our house at all times."
William nodded in agreement. He understood the gravity of their situation and the need for precautions. He replied, "Of course, Father. I understand the importance of this journey and the need for protection."
Lord Baratheon then continued, "We need to ensure that we are well prepared for whatever lies ahead. We must gather all the necessary supplies, provisions and ensure that our escort of knights is well equipped to handle any challenge."
William listened intently and asked, "What about alliances with other houses, Father? How do we strengthen them?"
Lord Baratheon smiled, appreciating his son's keenness that he always showed since young. "We must approach them with diplomacy and tact. We need to assure them that our interests are aligned with theirs and that we are willing to support them when needed."
With that, they spent the next few days gathering their supplies, provisions, and preparing their escort of knights. They made sure that each knight was well-equipped and trained to handle any potential danger. Once they were fully prepared, they set out on the road to Dragonstone, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
